The point is that they'll dumb down the plot for the stupid western audiences, and use western actors to do the characters.
Good thing is, more Eva movies are coming along this year, 3 movies that re-tell the original series story, and a fourth one with new material... And hopefully this WETA project will remain on pre-production limbo forever.
