I think you should steer clear of anything relating to original story titles ("Journal of the Whills," the Starkiller stuff, etc.) and anything relating to the newer title ("A New Hope"), and try to go with the title the movie had when it was released. The vast majority of people know the movie as "Star Wars."

The key problem, as I see it, is finding a title that fits with the BE / RTJ theme without straight-out copying either. Titles such as...

...are okay, but I think they would feel like you just took your "Building" part of BE and went to thesaurus.com to find a synonym. The nice thing about RTJ is it doesn't do that; it's not called "Constructing Jedi." It plays on the film title, but it does so in a different manner.

Of course, by this logic, I'd have to throw out a host of other acceptable-but-BE-sounding titles: "Shaping Star Wars," "Launching Star Wars," "Undertaking Star Wars," "Inventing Star Wars," "Developing Star Wars," etc.

And you'd have to get rid of anything that was too similar to RTJ. And, I'd get rid of this stuff too:

They do the job, but they're obvious, and not as clever as BE or RTJ.

I was trying to come up with something that relayed, basically, "creating the beginning of a saga." I came up with a couple of cool ones, like "Embarking on Star Wars," but I think the fewer words you use, the better. If you can do the title in three words, you're gold. I toyed with "Imagining Star Wars," but the film really won't just be about imagining Star Wars-- it will be about making it.

So, the best I've been able to come up with so far is: "Realizing Star Wars"

I dunno, feel free to disregard my long-winded rants about your title.

Hows about borrow from Mr Lucas himself and use the "working title" from Episode I.

And since this is the 'first' of the edits, don't worry about this title matching the other ones, the other ones need to match this one.
(How's that for prequel logic?)

So I think matching the name is secondary compared to just having a good working name that sets the tone for the whole Jambe trilogy.

Shooting Star Wars. It's a play on words in two different ways and still fits with the retrospective theme.

P.S. As for a title "STARTING WARS" perhaps?

I don't like the name "STARTING WARS", but I think "STARTING STAR WARS" has a cool catchy ring to it and fits nicely along with Building Empire and Returning to Jedi. I think sticking with a name based on Star Wars would be better than one based the name A New Hope, since it was added on after the movie was released. Really gald to hear you are doing this Jambe. I can't wait to see Returning to Jedi. I liked OCP's Deleted Magic, but it is quite a bit different from your projects, it is great to hear you are going to complete the trilogy. Please don't kill youself. We know you put a lot of work into these things.

Yeah, I kind of did that... *cough*

Anyways, your post made me think of a title and, this came up.

Finding the War

Basically playing off the fact that stars are something you find. It's not too obvious and, it makes it fits with the others...

Finding the War
Building Empire
Returning to Jedi

So far I like:

- Creating Star Wars (simple and to the point. No ambiguity)
- Constructing Star Wars (particularly as 'constructing' is part of the Star Wars vocabulary: - "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber""... begun construction on a new armoured space station" etc)

Other ideas include:

- Shaping Star Wars
- Composing Star Wars (works on a special effects level)
- Assembling Star Wars
- Conceiving Star Wars
- Crafting Star Wars
- Regarding Star Wars
- Producing Star Wars
- Star Wars: A New Spin
- Analysing Star Wars

I may go with one of the above. But I am still thinking.

"Starting Star Wars" has a nice ring to it.

Starting Star Wars
Building Empire
Returning to Jedi

or maybe

"From Starkiller to Star Wars" but that doesn't go with the other titles as well?

Yes, I really like "Starting Star Wars". It fits with the other two, and it is not redundant. Another reason I think it is perfectly fitting is that this movie was the start of the whole Star Wars phenomenon.

I still really like my suggestion - Beginning Star Wars. It's the beginning of the trilogy, the beginning of "the Star Wars," and beginning as in "beginning work on" these movies. Maybe it's just me, but I just think "beginning" has a nicer ring to it than some of the other verbs mentioned - it seems more epic.

I personally think "Constructing Star Wars" sounds better than "Deconstructing Star Wars", especially within the context of your other projects. Your titles have described what your films are covering, not what they are doing. What I mean is this -- your films offer a deconstruction/breakdown/etc. of the Star Wars films, but they do this by showing what went in to them. Your first project wasn't "Breaking Down Empire", or something like that -- despite the fact that this was in essence what your film was doing. Instead, it was "Building Empire", which was describing what was covered in the project -- everything that went into constructing the films.

I hope I'm articulating what I'm trying to say clearly enough. And hey, you could always go with "Starwalking".

. . . though Ell's suggestion has a certain ring to it . . . I'm trying to picture the cover now for "OMG TEH TRILOGY IS COMPLETEZ"

Take care,
Sojourn
