Anyone heard from Adywan lately... this thread has been awfully quiet recently.
Sorry i've been a bit quiet but i haven't really stopped since the new year to try and get this edit out as soon as possible. Unfortunately i can't see it being finished within the first quarter of this year as i originally hoped. Sometime around or after May is looking more realistic. I thought i had finished all of the colour correction but, after a quick render to view on my TV, i'm not happy with some scenes. Some colours, mainly the reds, are just way too oversaturated. I've just got a new plug-in for after effects that will allow me to reduce certain colours without affecting the surrounding areas, which will be ideal. But this means going back to colour correcting the entire movie before i can continue anything else which has set me back hell of a lot. But the mess that lucasfilm has done with the colours on this release has me pulling my hair out trying to sort it out.
Anyway, I've just finished re-editing the Vader/Ben fight and rotoscoped all but 4 shots of the lightsabers. The pacing is a bit faster now and also a little more agressive. Re-editing has caused the first part of the fight to be slightly shorter now but only by about 10 seconds or so.

Actually, I was thinking the same thing. I think it also has something to do with the colorization of the explosions, along with the fact that they look a little two-dimensional. It just doesn't seem to fit in along with the way shots have been fired up until that point in the film.

I've removed the explosions now.
Here's some screenshots of a few more finished tweaks:

A quick explaination of the shots starting at the top:
1. R2 aboard the Falcon. The shots used seemed to be aboard the death Star by the lights in the background. The background is now correctly where han is sitting.
2.Holo Game. I could never understand why, if this is supposed to be holo characters, that they look nothing like any other holograms we see in the films. I've added a slight Holo effect to the characters and also added reflections on the table.
3. Entering the Death Star. Slight tweaking here. Changed the colour balance of the gun turrets and troopers so they don't look as superimposed now. Also i've added the correct docking bay. After the added the new interior docking bay matte for the SE they didn't bother to change what it looked like as the falcon enters. It now matches what we see on the inside.
4. Death Star bay. Fixed contrast & colour issues so the new Falcon Matte matches the surroundings. Also added a slight glow to the light around the entrance.
5. Tractor beam. Fixed the Matte so it blends in with the live action footage now.
I am toying with the idea of changing the light on R2's dome to match the rest of the saga but it isn't something that has really bothered me so i will only do it if i have enough time.
Well, thats about it for now. but one last thing before i go back to the edit;
I mentioned before that i would be doing my own cover for the DVD but, with the colour correction setback, i might not have enough spare time to do the painting for it so if anyone wants to do some covers and labels then please feel free. I'm really hoping that i can get this cover done but its looking less likely now. Even if i do manage to then i will still include any covers submitted in a DVD-ROM folder on the finished DVD.
