Modern technology making us stupid and antisocial is a bunch of bologne.

I think this myth that all the advancements with internet, video, games and technology in general making we all anti social and stupid is a bunch of bullshit. If anything, it is making us more intelligent and social beings. Ten years ago the internet was really starting to take off with in the public with windows 98 being the first operating system to incorporate the internet and all the online retailers and email were starting to spring up.

Now it is common place for the public to email, have a cell phone and things of that nature and I think it is really making us more social and intelligent people. Kids today know more about technology then their parents. For some reason it is typical in families today for the kids to know more about computer technology than their parents and I don’t understand why. Our parent grew up as this stuff evolved and you’d think they would know more working with it longer.

I’m 19 and I know more about computers than my dad and he was a computer programmer from the ‘70s to the ‘90s. His multiple sclerosis started to kick in 10 years ago and he went on disability and he hasn’t worked since. He isn’t even familiar with the Internet and is impressed by very common things like playing chess online.

All I think things like cell phones and the Internet and video games are doing is making us more social, efficient working people. Now we’re able to get a lot of good resources for free on the internet. We used to have to be suckers, pay a lot to buy books that just have boring, outdated data and end up spending more time on the shelves collecting dust. I doesn’t even think I need to waste money going to collage now because we have so much information on the internet, I’ll get a better education from that rather than spend a lot of money at a school that don’t take advantage of our modern technology.

Schools and colleges are becoming inefficient in today’s world. A lot of them are still using ciriclcum books which have outdated data and classes want us to hand in all these stupid papers which just makes a mess and get easily unorganized. So many people these days are coming out of schools with degrees but not the skills necessary to do the job well in today’s society.

A lot of schools are just set up where they make you do a lot of mindless busy work to get your credits or degrees and don’t care whether you’re picking up the information or not. They have little to no engagement with the people to make sure they’re picking up the information and exploiting it, teachers specifically these days. I am appalled by how bad some of the teachers I had with college degrees were .It seemed like they didn’t apply anything they were supposed to be teached in college. I feel I could have done better than some of them.

Of course, it depends on what school you go to, but if you go to any of the state universities they’re all pretty much like that. I feel like them colleges are out to get your money rather then get you a educaten.

Anyways, these people that say technology is making us stupid and anti social, I think are just the people who have these problems and are finding excuses to blame it on.

Please suggest an educational system adequate for today's world.

In a way, I agree, but in a way, I also disagree. See below for more.

If you look at an average kid today, they know plenty about computers, the internet, etc. etc. etc. However, if you were to ask them to go plow a field for you, or hunt down a rabbit for dinner, they'd fail miserably.
Also, if you asked a kid to multiply 12x12, under most circumstances, I believe they'd struggle with it, unless you put a calculator in their hand.

However, a kid a hundred years ago would probably have much less difficulty with these same tasks (hunting or plowing a field), but wouldn't understand computers.
I also think this kid would have no trouble working out 12x12 without the calculator, but shown the calculator, they would be confused and probably amazed by it.

--Kids are no less intelligent than they were before, but their knowledge is in a different area. In that way, I agree with you.

--However, I believe that some things, like being able to multiply, read, write etc. are universal and should be known regardless of time period, race, wealth or other factors. Kids nowadays are too dependent on technology for all the answers. They know the answers, but not why they are right. In that way, I have to disagree with you.
