Actually, +R has one compatability advantage - you can set the booktype to "DVD-ROM". Some settop players won't play a disc that has "DVD-R" coded in. (Probably just some old, cranky ones).
I think you need a utility to tell the drive to put that in there, though. CdFreaks forum would be the place to find it. But if your drive was rebadged, it might be difficult to find out the true manufacturer.
One day I found... 10 years had got behind me. Next day was worse.
Download shows from Cable DVR (Updated! Yes, it needs a rewrite, but it's worth slogging through, anyway).
