Empire Strikes Back sets are terrible.

I think the first 3 quarters of ESB is pretty good but the last quarter or so is cheap. The sets start to look cheap and frankly look like sets. When the movie takes place at Hoth or in space or whatever even the the special effects and sets arne't 100% convincing enough they're good wenough to the point where you can suspend your disbeleif and really feel like the movie is real and is really taking place in a galaxy far far away. But once they get to Bespin all the atmosphere gets thrown out the window. All the sets look plain, cheap and white. It totally makes you think the characters are in a set. The point where luke fights vader in that big retarded shaft facility, what the hell was that? It was just a cheap excuse of a place to have it decorated like the way george wanted it with no attention to continuity in the story. The area looks like something the empire would have but it's taking place where the empire has nothing to do with the place.

The sets in ROTJ got even worse. WTF were they thinking?

The original Star Wars is the only one of the series where the whole time I feel all the sets are good enough to make you feel like you're totally immersed in a real story.

I was thinking that LFL had some budget cuts when make ROTJ because the sets looked like they are lacking in budget, but ROTJ had the highest budget of the three OT. Star Wars had a budget of just a little under $ 10 mil, ESB ended up being about $20 mil, and ROTJ had a budget of about $32 million.

I guess a lot of it went to bloated advertising like the prequels.

Another thing that makes me think ROTJ had a low budget was that it kinda ends abrubtly. In like the last 10 minuets everything comes to a conclusion and then WHAM! it's the ending. I think the movie should've taken a little slower pace towards the end and I don't like the direction GL took with the revisions, having all the stupid celebrations at end with Jar Jar Binks saying "weeza free!!!"

One thing I don't like about originaltrilogy.com is the stupid padawan learner name they gave me. That was never mention in the OT only the prequels which I don't want to have anything to do with except bashing.

What's wrong with making a few threads at once?

and I was just adding to my original post.

I see you edited your last post. This is a wonderful function that lets you add more content to your posts without triple posting. Also calm down about the "Padawan Learner" thing. It isn't that big of a deal. I think you are the first one I have ever heard complain about it. It's still a fun place to post, if you can get over the whole Padawan thing. I guess we can be a little strict on protocol around here, sorry if you have not had the warmest welcome. So far most of your posts have been complaining, or things that get peoples backs up such as posting something under the wrong topic or like you little $5 gag when you asked about DVD software. You don't have to bait your threads to get us to read them. You seem to have a huge worry that we wont read what you post. Relax. Have a little patience and you'll be more popular around here. Oh, and welcome to the boards.

I think Dagobah is one of the best sets ever designed for a film. Bespin is not necessarily a bad set than it is a trendy set--it reflects certain late 70's design aesthetics. The ROTJ sets are about as good as any fantasy film from that time period and hold up today. Personally the phoniest sets are in the PT--i mean look at the Trade Federation control bridge--the plastic-coated paint makes the walls and detailing look exactly like what it is.

As for the "Padawan" thing, almost all of us here only want our Original Trilogy released in it's original, but restored, form. That does not mean that we are going to completely deny that the PT ever existed. Altough most of us really wished they would have done a different job on them, I think a majority of us like a few things in them.

As for the sets, I never really felt like any of the sets were cheap or out of place until this thread, I'll look next time I watch it, but I don't know if I ever paid it that much attention.

Th worst looking set to me is Palpatine's office below the senate retunda.

Dumb ass.

IS THIS ADAMWAN!?

These go together like franks and beans, bacon and eggs, death and taxes, politics and corruption.

As for the OP....ARE YOU HIGH?!?!? The sets have always and will always look awesome, no matter what. Get a clue, then come back and talk to us.

HaHA! That's exactly what I thought. I discovered that video only a few days ago myself.

For those who haven't seen it.

And, no, the ESB sets look fine.
I have a bad feeling about this...

Haha, I was hoping that someone would get that! Definetely one of the better, more clever Star Wars parodies out there.

Hahahah! That was great! One of the best Star Wars parodies I've seen in a while.

And, no. I don't see any problems with the sets. Maybe if you give me some time, I can come up with something. The only thing I can think of is that I kinda wish you got to see the fourth wall in Ben's hut. But that's a very minor complaint.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

That is SOOOOO funny, I just love the Hayden Christensen impersonation and the best line has to be...."I don't use locations, I have computers." LOL

This is a good question. Please tell me that He's Back has been banned after the locked thread he started.

As for the topic, the sets in ESB look great, IMHO.
