Transformers: The Movie

We'll see...

I can feel some excitement brewing in me for this mostly due to the nostalgia of seeing my childhood heros on screen kicking ass and beating the shit out of each other. But as most transfans online know, a lot of people are dissapointed in some decisions they've made like giving the transformers these strange, more organic I guess, designs. That's put me off somewhat because you don't fuck with Optimus' classic design. Not even the anime shows, though they've done drastic changes, have really done it to the degree I'm seeing for the film.

The new trailer is ok; it didn't change my feelings at this point much. Everything I saw in it was expected from all the photos released so nothing really wowed me out my pants.

We'll see...

Ahh, crap, I have a feeling this is going to be bad. Based on that trailer I am forced to assume they are going with an uber-serious, suspense-and-action approach and I can't imagine that working with Transformers. They're freakin' cars and planes that TURN INTO ROBOTS! It's totally campy and cheesy by default. I have toruble imagining that working as a serious special effects thriller. Plus, what about all of the original story elements that I loved so much? The plots to Transformers were always about robots and not people.

Oh well, we'll see . . . .

forget about the 2007 movie and pick up the new 2 disc sony release 20th anniversary of the real transformers movie. the animated one from 1980.

There is also the pal recononstruction edition and of course the superior full frame release from rhino.

I think at one point they made a t.v. movie edited together out of the five faces of darkness,

They edited the pilot episodes into a movie for t.v., as well as the return of optimus prime.

None of the t.v. edits including the t.v. edit of transformers the movie with the narration or the original mono mix episodes have been preserved to date.

My nephew happens to be extremely excited about the live action movie.

the only good thing about the new movie is the original optimus returning in the voice overs at least.

I know this is utter blamphemy but I like Simon furrman's comic series storyline. I read the entire series back to back after the cancellation of the show here in the u.s. including the short lived generation 2 comics.

I never got to read the u.k. series but heard it was quite good, indeed several of the japan transformers shows that aired in japan after the u.s. cancellation are good too. Scramble city pilot, the headmaster series and transformers victory.

The newer batch are crap they look a tad too much like pokemon and they look cheap also the animation is crap, and low budget. The new storylines are okay if only for a show that is one long television commecial for toys, but are bearable. The voice over work is awful too. Some of the work they did on beast wars and beast machines was a step in a new direction but ultimetely failed just like the new voltron.

Why can't they produce a darker transformers cartoon or animated series of movies truly inspired by the newest of the new filmaking techniques and anime. well of course they could not because it has to be for children to buy toys and cannot be violent or serious.

and of course let's not forget that the new live action movie is a two hour commericial of a new toyline that will come out based on it, in all likelyhood. The same was true with the g1 cartoons, though they had some good plots and action and sci fi for kids who were not looking for more than fun and enjoyment as well as cool transforming robots.

The new Animated Movie dvd is superior to the Rhino one. I have the Rhino r1, the Sony r2 PAL and the new Sony R1 2dvd set, and it's so far the best out there. The R4 Aussie dvd has the music video on it, as well as the promo trailer with it's original audio, but the video on the new R1 dvd is phenomenal. The widescreen disk is cropped, but it's a ton cleaner then the Rhino version, and the fullscreen disk has the same aspect ratio as the Rhino dvd, but as clean as the WS dvd. The audio commentary is great as well, and about time it was done.

The new movie....eehhh....I'm gonna wait to see if it sucks....

BTW, Furman's comic is some of the greatest things I've ever read in print. The last 15 or so issues of the original Marvel TF comic series is, imo, the best TF story arc, followed up by the stuff that Furman did for Dreamwave, before they folded. The Cult of Unicorn is still eerie to me.

Armada was good only in the last 12 eps. Energon and Cybertron sucked in english. All 3 of the new shows are great subtitled. Out of all the TF series, not counting the toon movie, I'd say that Headmasters is my favorite series. Rumour was that Rhino was going to release Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory on dvd in the US, but it never happened. Now that Sony is re-releasing G1 on dvd in 07, maybe they'll release HM, MF and Vic subbed in the US (I have the "brit dub" of Headmasters on vhs from Chinese tv, and I have random eps subbed and it's night and day). The Pal movie dvd has the 1st ep of Headmasters with the "brit dub", which is ok, but very off.

Love me some TFTM....

I heard that the fullscreen on the Rhino release was better than the fullscreen on the Sony release.

Otherwise, about the comics and later series, I couldn't get into them. As far as I'm concerned, the original transformers series and the movie are what transformers is all about. I didn't even like that series which came after the movie until Optimus Prime returned (they killed off too many of my favorities in the movie).

Oh, and I don't like Michael Bay's movies. So that's another doubt about this new one as far as I'm concerned.

the ratio in the Rhino disk was the best because it was the FULL full image, where as the regular fullscreen was some kinda "zoomed in" fullscreen. That being said, the Sony dvd is alot cleaner then the Rhino dvd. I had a comparison page when I got my TFTM dvd to check to see which was cleaner.

Michael Bay is a hack, plain and simple. the ONLY way I can watch Pearl Harbor is the cut that ADM did. I did like The Rock and ID4, but still, I can't stand Michael Bay. Hopefully he won't infect the Transformers with this movie coming out.

Hey, I'm cool with a bad attitude, I've found that a bad attitude is a sign of a realist and cynic, usually those kind of people don't become victims and I like that. Anyways, I was impressed by the trailer and I will give it a chance before I call it out as crap. I was a child in the 80's and had the toys, watched the cartoons, and everything so I do have high expectations. I also went over to the Transformers Movie website where there are some interviews of the writers, it seems they are really wanting to preserve the Transformers "idea" so to speak. So far, I know that they changed "Bumblebee" from a VW bug to a Camaro, but we all know they did not because Chevy paid a hefty sum to have it done. I would link their interviews here, but the whole site is flash based and hard to link. So, I recommend ya'll go check it out, I liked what they had to say. The interviews are under the "Videos" section on the website.

I DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY THAT THE METAL WAS "FORMING" TO CREATE THE HEAD OF OPTIMUS PRIME. IT LOOKED TERRIBLE. WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH HAVING TO MAKE EVERY PIECE OF METAL SO REFLECTIVE ??? IS THERE NO SUCH THING AS FLAT PAINT ANYMORE ???

I read on another site that Bumblebee technically never was a "VW Bug". He was a car in the likeness of a VW bug. I've got nothing to back it up, but the guy said there was never a VW symbol in the cartoon or on the toy. Apparently he was always different enough that they couldn't be sued. When they eventually did want to make an exact copy of a VW bug (with the VW logo and all) for a re-issue, VW wouldn't let them do it.

I have somewhat high hopes for the movie, if only because the transformers "sound" is in the latest trailer.

Really, what in the hell do these execs at these companies are thinking? They could have just let that movie use the VW bug and garnered millions of dollars worth of free publicity courtesy of movie makers.

I heard the nu-metal theme song to this piece of trash film, and it's just as bad as the script I read.
Author

The script you read was a very early version, and as the screen writers said on yahoo movies that version of the script was completely reworked and in no way reflects the movie that was filmed. They aslo stated that the ratio of transformer screen time to human screen time is now 50-50. And they said that that was a rough write up, and that 4 pages of dialogue in a script of theirs translates to maybe 30 seconds on screnn and that when they wrote the action scenes they were very vague about them and that the action was expanded a lot during filming. In the video they explain there motives behind changing bumblebee into a camero instead of leaving him a VW bug.

Here is the link to the interview on Yahoo Movies:Transormer Undisguised: An Interview With The Screen Writers

Scroll down the bottom of the page, and you will see the video it is #8 and it is titled Transformers Undisguised.

the recent trailer is saw on tv looked like crap, and i winced when i saw that lebouf kid and some girl i've never heard of in really bad acting and dialogue.

Now if that is not bad enough hasbro is going forward with the live action G.I. Joe movie.

The live action transformers movie makes the hand drawn cel cartoon, and movie make the live action a joke just explosions and bad actor cameo roles.

if this movie makes money similar robot or mecha shows from japan will be made into live action movies to bad american versions.

Live action Gundam, robotech/macross, and evangelion cannot be far behind.

Plus other japanese anime being optioned for ameircan cinema or actually being made, like naruto, battle angel by james cameron, ghost in the shell, astro boy, and starblazers which is really space battleship yamato. Hollywood for years has tried to get the right to do a big budget live action akira, i hope to god it does not happen.

Well, aside from the lame ass "giant robot, probably made in Japan" line, I don't see much of a problem with either one of them. I'm reserving judgment though. I don't think it's going to be nearly as bad as people are making out. They've got the original voice of Optimus Prime and the Transformers "sound". So aside from making some of the characters different vehicles or items, I think it might actually be pretty good.

You can't realistically make Megatron a handgun. He'd be a 12" (at best) tall robot that any kid could destroy.

I think they should have made Megatron a tank.

I just wish they weren't so manga-looking. And I'm not anti-manga by any means. Also, why is it they tried so hard to secure Peter Cullen (original voice of Optimus Prime) but rejected Frank Welker (original voice of Megatron) in favor of Hugo Weaving? Weaving is cool but c'mon, Welker's the one and only Megatron!
