I remember there was talk about using the new Game Boy system (the advanced) as a controller for the Dolphin (that ended up being the GameCube). It was said that for multiplayer shooters, you would be able to use your own personal screen to play so that you could effectivly hide from other players.

Wow, the Wii component video cable makes a huge difference. You can actually read the text in 480p.

Too bad the cable is sold separatedly. I can't really tell the difference when I'm watching DVDs on progressive scan, though.

How'd you manage to find Wii Component Cables? They've been sold out everywhere...and I'm not really wanting to buy a thirdparty S-Video cable.
Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

Strange, as Rhino has shelves full of Wii component cables. Of course this does me no good as my TV does not have component inputs.

There are "generic brands" products for the Wii already? Interesting. Although DS jackets were available before the DS itself...

All-time favorite console: tie between PS2 and SNES, runner up is Dreamcast.

Currently playing: just started Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast), and there a couple of others that I'm kinda/sorta going through (Front Mission 4, Mega Man X: Command Mission, Final Fantasy Tactics)

Biggest waste of money: Nintendo 64. Only ever bought two games for it (Mario 64 and StarFox 64), and it actually spent more time in other people's houses than my own, because I loaned it to people a lot. Oh well.

Favorite games: just about any Tetris game, GT2 and GT4, most Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games, Earthbound, StarFox & StarFox 64, Music Generator, Shadow of the Colossus, ICO, Katamari Damaci & We Love Katamari, Tourist Trophy, Final Fantasy VII & Tactics, Bomberman series, etc...

Most hated/pointless/frustrating games: Back to the Future II & III, Low G Man, and others I can't remember because they're not worth remembering.

Did you know they are starting to make DC games again in Japan? Also Earthbound was one of my favorite childhood games.

Yup, mostly space shooters (which I love, but they're always hit-and-miss). Great info here, including info on new games: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamcast

I'm actually on my second DC now. The first one developed some weird power problem. Got a used one for $40 a while back with two controllers.

I love the system, but my biggest beef with it has always been the VMUs. Some games take a ridiculous amount of space on them. I have two cards right now, but I could always use a couple more! Any idea where I could get one at a reasonable price?

Oh, dang, for a minute I thought Bossk had returned!

Ha! Yeah, he gave me a little good-natured ribbing about using "his" avatar when I first joined, but when I told him that, given all the options, I liked Bossk the most, he was cool with it. Of course, the second we are able to use our own avatars, I'll be changing mine, as will countless others, I'm sure.

Same here... Perhaps if we bring the 7 degrees of star wars game back again...

Are these basically homebrews or fan-releases of nearly finished games that didn't get released before the system died, or corporate releases? You can go on sites like www.atariage.com or www.songbird-productions.com and find homebrewed games for various Atari systems, unfinished games, and finished/nearly finished games that didn't get released back when their systems were active. So I wouldn't be suprised to find that the Dreamcast has something similar. The Dreamcast seemed to always have a dedicated following.

These are totally original games, by third party developers. Sega itself only stoped publishing games for the DC in Japan in 2004. There is still a huge market for japanese DC owners, specially for 2d space shooters like Ikaruga. While on the US the DC completely died in 2002, it had a small following in Japan, up to this day.

Didn't know that the Dreamcast stayed around so long after it was discontinued.
I know that there are still games for the Atari 2600 and other Atari systems that were programmed by third parties, and were never quite finished, or finished but not released before the market died on the system that are still being found today and being fan-released. But I didn't know that the Dreamcast still had such active third-party support.

That's a beautiful game, but hard! I like that it has some originality to it. 2D shooters aren't exactly the most varied genre, but that one has a good gimmick to it.

Unfortunately, for guys like me, the Not-Quite-Hardcore Gamer, Ikaruga is prohibitavly difficult. I'm glad I only payed $14 bucks for it.
