I didn't know would follow my composite III/IV idea at all. Anywho, if it could happen, then how about this:

Have the amnesia kiss out of II, but use it in the end of III. That way it could tie in into SR.

Of course there's the Fortress thing in IV. I suggest its cut completely. That, and the Smallville scenes (these because of SR).

What do you say? Won't that allow II to happen less controversialy?

Its an idea, anyway...
My life is really... Complex!

Will there be CGI Villains taking over the world in any of these edits?

Hey everyone, just a little video help question for anyone who can assist.

Currently I'm working on a Superman II Donner fan edit. After backing up my PAL copy of S2 TRDC on my hard drive I converted the VOB files to an "interlaced mpeg2 movie file" using TMPGEnc. I selected "top field first", even though the source type is "progressive", (which I always understood to not require a field order placing).

I’ve been editing it over the last week in Ulead Video Studio. I’m breaking it up into sections so not to be too taxing on my computer. However when I export my edit the picture at times gets a little scrambled, resulting in tiny pauses. Mostly evident in fast motion scenes. It's difficult to explain without knowing the correct terminology, but the pixels just appear shifted at times.

I found this problem to be easily corrected by changing the field order in the project settings to "frame based" or "lower field first".

This has confused me due to the following:

- Firstly the file was encoded as "top field first", so how could rearranging it during the editing stage help?
- Secondly I thought computers tend to not show incorrect field order placing, that this can only be seen on a TV monitor.
- Finally, in the past when I’ve encoded files with the incorrect field order, the resulting effect has been jumpy picture, not this scrambled picture.

Any information with regards to this would be much appreciated.

If you use 'womble' you don't need to convert the vob file into anything. Just import and edit. Really easy and what I used to make my dream cut of II.

By "scrambled" picture, are you referring to interlacing? With editing and even encoding, I'd say progressive is best. It's easier to work with and takes up less space.

Cheers Jobel.

What version of "womble" do you use? I just checked out the website and there's several.

What you want is 'MPEG Video Wizard' . Whichever is the latest version of that.

I just watched the donner cut again, and I realized that I actually really like the world turning ending. I think it makes sense that he does it again, because each time he does it, its to save Lois, once physically and once emotionally. On the balcony, we see she's an emotional wreck, and Superman turns time back to save her from that emotional hardship. Turning the world around it the only way to erase her memory that he can think of, because he did it recently to save her, so naturally, he'd do it again. It makes sense, and is a good ending.

I've never done a Fan Edit, nor have the technology at my disposal to do so, but I know that if I could, the only edit I would make to the Donner cut is to remove the last Diner scene, and go from the final scene at the Daily Planet to Superman flying around the earth, and end there. The point of this big, 2 part Superman movie is literally Superman getting into the suit, on a metaphorical level. He does it in Superman 1 literally, but throughout the two movies, he struggles to find exactly what hero he is, and what his true role on the planet is. He screws up and causes mishap. He releases Zod from the Phantom Zone, throguh inadvertantly. He gives up his powers and sacrafices being with his father to get them back, but in the end, he knows his role. He's become his father by not being able to be with him anymore, and has become what his father wanted. The series can actually end on that note, knowing that he will now go and continue being the earth's savior, that it was a long, long struggle but he reached that goal. Having the diner scene in the end not only screws up the continuty and logic, it weakens the ending a little bit. Showing that his life as Clark, and as Superman, will go on in the best way is a perfect ending. The diner and his revenge is unnesesary. Of course, only cutting that one scene doesn't merit doing a whole fan edit, but that would improve the film.

Hi guys new to the forum but big big fan of fan edits and after several weeks of editing and sound blending, colour correction, scene blends and sound level correction my fan edit of superman 2 is finished, and from a fans point of view I'am very happy with it, to go into detail regarding all of the cuts, trims and corrections would take me for ever, but I will give a very brief take for you.
Please bear in mind a lot of these scenes have being re'edited in an order I felt better suited the pace of the film.
used the original opening of superman the movie with Brando, didn't like the alternate takes in the Donner cut.
Kept the Paris stuff of Lester including his bomb exploding in space, hated the ropey effects of the Donner cut.
The release of the villians from the phantom zone is a mix of Donner footage and Lester footage but with sound of the Lester score but including Zods scream of free upon the explosion.
Edits to the space centre scenes Donner & Lester.
kept the scene of Clark kent crossing the road and crushing the taxi from Lester footage but this was tricky edited out Lois Lane in this sequence with lots of minor edits and sound alteration and one optical reframing of a scene, liked this scene but Lois was wearing different clothes for the scene that was to follow so she had to go.
Next was the Donner footage of Lois jumping out of the Window edited this scene to make it look like Perry White is thanking her for a good job in Paris, was a minor edit to the lasers coming from Kents eyes.
More use of Donner footage in Prison.
Mix of Donner edits and Lester edits at Niagra Falls.with no Test scenes of Reeves and Kidder would of being nice if they had filmed if correctly but hate the test screen feel to it and the hair styles so kept Lesters reveal.
This one became a major pain for me to correct and edit due to the poor condition of the deleted footage and different music score but did it, a mix of Donner,Lester and Donner deleted footage of Lex & Teschmacher getting to the Fortress of Solitude with colour correction, picture sharpning, music blends and footage edits.
My next edit may be liked or not but but I felt it worked better due to some bad effects of the Donner cut, kept the first part of the full body scenes of Brando in the Fortress but hated the floating head of him so some major edits of Susannah York being introduced with the second crystal but with a mixture of scenes and sound lines from both the Donner cut and the Lester Cut with the villans still being seen in this sequence.
Deleted foootage again, with again attempted clean up and colour correction of Lex and Teschmacher leaving the Fortress.
major section of Lester footage with the Villans arriving on earth and causing mahem, didn't like Donners hatchet job of these scenes.
Mix of Donner and Lester stuff at the Fortress with Kent and Lois with all the Brando stuff intact.
White House all Donner Scenes.
At the Daily Planet a mix of Donner and Lester stuff with the villans.
Deleted footage of the villans gaining entry to the fortress blended with first the Lester footage then a switch to the Donner stuff.
No artic police deleted scene didn't like the police taking the villans away but the destruction of the fortress is there with a minor edit.
Next the Lester stuff with the Kiss not the world spin of Donner, ok in the first film but not again.
Deleted footage of Kent remembering the guy in the dinner, sound and colour corrected with Lex escaping from Prison again think this works very well and leaves it open ended its also fun.
And finnished off with the original Lester ending.
After all that I'm very happy with it from a fans point of view, would love to share my vision with fans but not in a position to know how to do that, but can maybe share a few DVDs with Fans no charge just cover postage and blank dvd costs, its NTSC region o no menu as its taken me weeks to edit the movie without starting on menu screens, but 36 chapters. just drop me a line and please let me know what you think.
