Do you know of any really good DVD playing software?

Hello, there are only a few days left until the limited edition unaltered DVD versions go off the retail market. I haven’t watched the films in years mostly because I just lost interest and frankly, gotten sick of them. I don’t feel like buying the new versions now but I don’t have a choice if this is the last chance to get the unaltered versions. I know they’re not in anomorphic which pisses me off, so how do they look. I am more interseted in what they look like on a LCD computer monitor because I have a good surround sound card with my computer. I haven’t come across any very good DVD playing software for a computer yet, but I haven’t looked much either. All the DVD decoding software that I have used it the Intervideo DVD player and Nvidia’s “puredecoder” DVD software and I haven’t liked either of them. They both play DVD’s in that lousy, choppy framerate that doesn’t make the movies very enjoyable. Do you know of any really good DVD playing software? I have an Athlon 64 2.2 GHz processor and a 256mb XFX 7800 GT graphicas card plus an Nforce4 motherboard, so my hardware shouldn’t be the limiter to why my DVD’s are playing crappy.

Seconded, although I can't seem to get the full-screen button working on my version. Nonetheless, I've never had any hang-ups with it.

I assume you are using Windows? Discerning Windows users seem to like VideoLAN. (I use xine, but it may not work completely on your platform.) Mail the $5 to the Scripps Research Institute or another similar charity of your choosing.

Seconded, and also in the wrong area of the forum. Should be in the "Off-Topic" Section. But then again, it shouldn't be here at all.

I use WinDVD. Its the best player out there in my opinion. There are plenty of other video players that will play dvds though, such as BSPlayer, VLCPlayer and even Windows Media Player, which are all free. WinDVD usually comes installed with many Windows packages as well.

I put that $5 gimmik there to see if it would attract more replys but you guys don't find it funny so I got rid of it.

I have Windows XP media Center 2005 edition and it is just windows XP home with a few stupid media software programs that rely on 3rd party software to work. Windows came with DVD playing software but it doesn't have an MPEG decoder so it needs a 3rd party player that does have an MPEG decoder to work, which is really stupid, the richest most powerful software company in the world relies on 3rd party software for thir amuturis software programs to work.Pathetic. Is this one of the reasons why people hate Windows? I know a lot of people don't like microsoft monopolizing the software market for operating systems but that seems to be changing. Windows seems to being left behing as graphics card, sound card, and everything else comes with their own software and drivers to work over Windows. These days the only thing windows is really good for is using it for the desktop to navigate 3rd party software.

Yeah, I use Intervideo's WinDVD also, pretty easy to work and lots of features.

Must agree with Zombie084 and ferris209, WinDVD is my preferred player.

I've used PowerDVD, CyberDVD, Interactual and I always end up coming back to WinDVD. The CyberDVD program (I think that was the name) was a good player, but the sound skipped. Interactual gives you too little control. WinDVD plays well, gives you a lot of control and the feature I used most is the screen capture.

DVDplayer built into XP and 2000 is plenty good enough for me, plus it doesn't run any post processing filters like a lot of the after market players do. Only prob is that it won't upconvert to higher res just has a 'full screen' option.
