The Matrix Squared (Released) — Page 4

Took a few days and snagged this edit piece by piece from RapidShare and watched it on the long Greyhound trip home today. Overall, I really enjoyed it. I hadn't seen the movies in a while, so for a lot of the Enter the Matrix stuff, I couldn't pick out what was from the game and what was from the movies, which was pretty cool. I didn't realize there was so much from the game until I re-read this thread. There were a few things that bothered me. Some of them were inherent to the source material, some of them were probably just necessity of the edit. I can go into more detail if you'd like, Spence.

Also, what happened to the ending with scenes from the Animatrix?

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

i'd always like to hear more details of what you thought.

The ending with animatrix stuff worked, but was unnecessary. The way i have it ending now had the same effect but was shorter. When I went back through the film to get the run time down, that was something i decided was unnecessary and removed.

This edit sound great, but I have so much downloading right now, I'm not sure when I'll have the opportunity to devote bandwidth to it. If I could get a copy of this and De-Zionized, I'll definitly PIF as soon as people want it. (Yes, I tag a lot of threads with PIF offers, and when I get it, I do PIF). Spence or anyone, let me know.

I'd love to get a copy of this. I'll gladly PIF or trade a copy of the SW Holiday Special (in case anyone needs it)!
George Lucas, October 1979: There are essentially nine films in a series of three trilogies. I have story treatments on all nine.
George Lucas, February 1999: I never had a story for the sequels.

Gotcha.

A few of the edits I thought were real quick (in that it went from point A to point B real quick), off-putting. The first one was with Persephone and her helping them out with the Keymaker. Her stuff was so cut down that she no longer had any motivation to help them. The too-quick edit came at the one when the Keymaker was blowing off the key he just fashioned and then you cut right to the foyer scene. I can't remember what was there that you cut and I'm sure that it was necessary for what you were doing, but it felt real, real quick.

The other off-putting edits were peppered around the transition between Reloaded and Revolutions. Not so much the stuff on the ship (I really like how you cut out Bane and Neo being unconscious, very nice), but cutting to Neo with the Oracle. I don't think this was as off-putting at the Keymaker one, but it felt weird.

That was the big stuff. There some technical snafus, like you said about the audio getting a little out of sync for brief scenes, but I know the pratfalls of Womble firsthand. I watched it with headphones on, so I probably heard the audio cuts more than you would if you were watching it on a TV. The biggest thing that bothered me about it was inherent to the source material, and that was that there didn't actually feel like there was any emotion between Neo and Trinity. Nothing you could do about that, though.

Other than that, though, really stellar. Opening with the shortened Osiris thing was really kickass and cutting out the stupider subplots worked really nicely. The deletion of the whole Merovingian and that digital family was not missed in the slightest, and the ending was way cool.

thanks for the responses.

yes, i hate that quick cut in the keymaker scene as well, but i couldn't figure out how to do it any other way. there weren't any establishing shots i could use or anything. I tried the shot of them all walking into the hall, but then Persephone would miraculously disappear for the rest of the scene.

That Oracle sequence would have gone had it not had some important tidbits of info in there. That was a pain in the ass to get into the film.

Spence, I have a question. I'm also playing around with the idea of combining the Matrix sequels with the animatrix and enter the matrix. I'm just checking out some options before I seriously want to think about doing edit, perhaps you can help.

I also want to include some scenes from enter the matrix. My question is, how I rip all the moviefootage in enter the matrix from the game? I have the pc game (4 cd's), and I'd like to rip all the movie footage from it so I can see what was not in the matrix reloaded. How did you rip all the footage from the game and made it into a format that is viewable on your computer?

Same Make. Same Model. New Mission.

the movie footage is on a bonus dvd in the 10 disc set. i just ripped them from that.

Hmn... does it have all the footage from the game, or just a selection?

Okay, I think I my question was not clear. What I actually meant was, are all live action parts (thus real life actors, not computer figures) on that DVD, or is it just a selection from the game? Are all live actions parts from the game transferred to that DVD, or just a selection of a few scenes from the game?

Same Make. Same Model. New Mission.

What he meant was, ALL the live action components of the game are included on the DVD. Not one scrap of gameplay.

Okay, okay. I have found the footage from the game in one of the game's folders. Now I need to convert the game audio to wav. I'm thinking of doing an extended edition of Matrix Reloaded, but I will not go into detail now.

Does the DVD from the boxset with the enter the matrix footage have a name or title?

Same Make. Same Model. New Mission.

Out of Squared, Hacked and De-Zioned i dunno which to watch and keep!

I think Squared adds a lot to the experience. De-Zionized I thought was really interesting just to see that everything in Zion was nonessential to understanding the plot, but I don't think it helped the movies, really. Can't comment on Hacked, as I haven't seen it yet.

I have my copy of this that I can send you, xhonzi. shoot me an email and I'll see about getting it out to you this week.

I did notice the 2 parts that go out of sync, but they don't last too long, and I already knew about them so it wasn't bad at all. Overall, I really really enjoyed this edit alot. Just hated that we lost alot of Monica Belluci's screen time, but it actually made the Matrix sequel enjoyable to me. Another great edit by Spence, thanks man.

I'm considering doing a better edit of this, essentially the same edit, but redone so the sound synchs up better, and also maybe fixing some of those jump cuts that are irritating people, including me.

I know i'm pulling a George Lucas here, but it's going to forever bother me if i don't fix it.
