For instance, I when the GOUT was released I began to work on a DVD for "Star Wars" that would have multiple angles representing the two crawls (sourced from GOUT and Moth3r's version), and would use audio tracks representing the 1993 DC, the 1977 mono mix, the 1977 stereo mix, the 1985 mix, an isolated score, and finally, the DC commentary track, along with self created subtitles. After finalizing all menus, subtitle tracks and and audio tracks in DVDMaestro, I ran into trouble getting the multi-angle version of the dvd to compile properly.
Here I will explain the steps I used to create the final version of this DVD. The first step was to make sure that the portions of the film that were required to have two angles had the same GOP Structure. This was accomplished using DVD Decrypter, AVIsynth, and VirtualDub, with a final encode step using Nero Vision MPEG encoder. It was important for me to match the chapter points from the official GOUT DVD, so I made sure that the GOP structure was the same for the crawl portion of chapter 2 and for the first shot from chapter 3. These two sections were encoded separately. I then needed to create a short video that had very low bitrate (it won't work otherwise) that would cover the same number of frames as the first chapter, and a second low bitrate video to cover the single-angle first portion of chapter 2. I then used Cuttermaran to join these two files together with both of the newly created files for the first angle as well as the single-angle portion of chapter 3 (the last two frames must be re-encoded b/c they are B frame, if this is not done there will be a pause in the final DVD video) [this will be video file 1]. I then join the two files created to cover the second angle [video file 2], and create a third video file that covers only the reencoded first chapter and first part of the second chapter [video file 3]. I finalize the files by using 'Pulldown.exe' to enable pulldown flags (This was an NTSC project) and to ensure they will work in DVDMaestro.
This will cover the DVDMaestro creation of the disc.
First, I created a project in Maestro with full length audio tracks that I needed as well as all subtitles and menus, I then add video file 1 (from above) to angle 1. Next I add video file 3 from above to angle 2. This will end up with a multi angle portion covering the first chapter and the first part of chapter 2. Now add an angle change marker (create chapter point, but uncheck the chapter marker box) to the very end of the shorter angle 2 video clip. Now drag video file 2 from above to the timeline after video file 3. This will remove file 3 from the timeline and add file 2 at the correct position. The next step is to add another angle change marker at the end of video file 2 and add chapter points at the correct positions of chapter 2 and 3. You should now have a project in which the first angle covers chapters 1-3 entirely and angle two represents the 'Episode IV' crawl only. This project, with full-length audio tracks and full length subtitle tracks and all menus is ready to be compiled.
Next I create a new DVD project with only one video track (the full bitrate MPEG rip of the GOUT DVD, use 'ReStream.exe' to remove sequence end codes) and all audio and subtitle tracks. To this I add all necessary chapter points as well as markers at the beginning and end of the multi-angle areas. I then author this DVD.
Using PGCedit I open the first authored DVD and add blank cells and chapters until I reach the total number desired for the final dvd, in this case 50 chapters plus 1 15 frame chapter at the end (51 total chapters, make sure all new cells have VOB ID 5 and Cell ID 1). I then add entry points for all chapters to the main title (this is only necessary if you have chapter menus, you can copy coding from the second DVD you compiled). I then open the VTS_01_0.ifo in IFOedit and open the VTS_PGCITI portion and then open VTS_PGC_1. You can scroll to the bottom of this list to find a list of the VOB ID and Cell ID for each cell in the main movie. The VOB ID for all newly created cells should already be set to a value of 5 to match the last original cell. Then number all new cells starting at 1 fro the last original cell and up to 49 for the last cell in the title. Save this ifo and replace the .bup file, then open this DVD in VOBlanker. Make sure that even though this is a multi-angle dvd, the main movie is processed. I then blank all cells in the title except those in the multi-angle portions of the film. This includes all newly added cells and the first two cells (low bitrate chapter 1 and first part of chapter 2). Also, you will get better results if you do not blank out the second half of chapter 3 (the single angle section of chapter 3).
Next I open the second DVD in VOBLanker and extract all cells in the main title to multiple files. When this is complete I open the blanked version of the first DVD and replace all single angle chapters with the extracted vobs from the second DVD (Replace the low bitrate version of the first two cells with the higher bit rate version, also make sure not to replace any multi-angle portions of the movie). Finally, the ifo files must be updated in IFOedit and PGCedit. First, open the VIDEO_TS.ifo file in IFOedit. Change the number of angles for Title_1 under the VMG_PTT_SRPT section from 1 to 2 and save (replace .bup). Then open this DVD in PGCedit and edit the PGC for the main movie title. VOBlanker changes the cell flags for all of the cells and these must be fixed. The first cell/chapter should have a default value of two for the first flag. All single angle chapter cells, except for cells immediately after multi-angle cells, should have a value of 8 for 'seamless playback' joint. For this example, the first cell is set to a value of 2, the second cell, (the single angle portion of chapter 2) is set to a value of 8, the third cell (the first angle of the second part of chapter 2) is set to a value of 95, the fourth cell (the second angle of the second part of chapter 2) is set to a value of 223, the fifth cell (the first angle portion of the first part of chapter 3) is set to a value of 93, the sixth cell (the second angle of the first part of chapter 3) is set to 221, the seventh cell (the single-angle second portion of chapter 3) is set to a value of 10, and all other single-angle cells are set to a value of 8. Finally, make any other desired changes in PGCedit (like correcting stream numbers) and save. The DVD is now finalized with two angles and as many chapters as are necessary. Additionally, It will play seamlessly.
