Today at work I've listened to the Pink Floyd - Wish you Were Here album around 4 or 5 times... Since my ear phone broke and the only one I currently own is the one that only works with my pocket pc, I had to get the CD, rip it off as mp3, and copy it through the USB into the ppc, and listen to it there. Since it took too long, I decided to just listen to that the whole day. Tomorrow's probably The Wall - CD 1.

I've recently started to listen to Pink Floyd, so far I am enjoying most of it. I started with Wish You Were Here, on a recommendation from a friend of mine in a band.

I had never really listened to them before, besides the usual rock-radio staples that people listen to and then suddenly describe themselves as experts on the band.

Yeah, they are great. Though the movie has nearly ruined the whole thing. Now when I recomend to anyone the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books or radio shows, they looked at me weird and mention how lame the movie looked and wonder why they would want to read or listen to anything based off such a lame movie. Which is very unfortunate. Stupid movie! And to move this thing back on topic, I am currently listening to my old Barenaked Ladies' album, Gordon.

I personally recomend the books, the best of all the 4 media in which "Hithchikers" had been puslibhed (radio, book, TV, movie).

Well, the script for the movie was written by Douglas Adams, I guess he wanted to do something different/silly with it this time.

It did stay true to the tradition of the radio show for the most part. Simon Jones (voice of Arthur in the radio show) has a brief cameo as the Magrathean hologram telling them that "everyone is out at the moment, but if you leave your name and the planet where you can be reached..."

I think they should just make a new TV show with the exact same script as the radio show. That would be awesome.

I also noticed that Marvin from the TV show was in the queue at Vogsphere in the movie.

EDIT: Currently at work listening to:

Dave Pearce on BBC Radio 1 - he's currently playing a dance remix of 'Wide Open Space' by Mansun, of all things...

I've been a Pink Floyd fan for a few years now, but I finally managed to listen to "The Wall" in its entirety in one sitting this past weekend.

Wow.

If you have never listened to this-hell, if you don't OWN it- get it.

Now.

It wasn't so much the script, but the acting and casting that I didn't like. I feel had Douglas Adams lived to see the movie through, it would have been much better. But then again, I really didn't like the TV series that much either, though I love the radio plays (the first two phases, the far more recent phases 3-5 I did not enjoy as much, felt more like full cast audio books, which is more or less what they were). To the old radio plays are the best, because they were the original. Though the books (the first two of which were based off the radio program) are quite good too. I think one of the greatest parts of any of them is the narraration, and the little quips from the guide that randomly interrupt the story. Great stuff. This was completely absent from the film, which is another reason I believe made it turned out so awful.

Ric, you mentioned four forms it was published it, however there was a video game that was also written by Douglas Adams and has its own variation of the story. But then again video games are not a linear forms of story telling, so it probably should not count. But, I agree, the books are great.

Elton John is gay, but rocket man is about one of the coolest songs every written. It is even better when Shatner sings it. Man, I love that song!

So what if Elton John is gay? Freddie Mercury and Rob Halford are too, and they rule all over the place.
