There has been speculation, on the Stargate side of things, that Stargate SG-1 and Battlestar Galactica fed off each other in terms of ratings, i.e. Battlestar people tuned in earlier for Stargate and Stargate people kept watching the channel to see Battlestar.BSG American TV time slot news:

When Battlestar went on hiatus and new Stargate episodes came on, its ratings took a hit, to the point that the show has not been renewed for its next season. Now, we are witnessing a Battlestar without Stargate with similar results.
