Well I just watched some of this and went to where some new deleted scenes were put in and I have to say, best version of Dune I have ever seen. I do have two personal comments. The scene where Linda Hunt walks in to Paul's mother and pulls out a knife is extended, for me, to do so changes an already perfect scene into an extended confused one. The film already has tons and tons of Dune speak to consume and I didn't think this was particularly well done (acted and such) or needed.

On a second note, I would have loved to see included the deleted scene where paul cries after his first killing in metting the fremen. I think the scene says a lot about Paul and is well acted. Maybe I'll add it myself along with the eyes, if I can figure how to go about it.

But again, great job. Films like Dune are the reason we have fan edits.

Pssst, it's Linda Hunt.

I don't know if it was just compression weirdness (going from a DVD9 to a DVD5) but that Linda Hunt scene seems almost like it's video is in slow motion. Is it just me or the drugs talking?

BTW, I can't remember -- does the "he gives water to the dead" segment available at all anywhere? I thought it was among the deleted scenes (albeit in rough condition). Someone remind me?

Sorry I was drunk when I wrote that.

You're not crazy I agree. And I believe the scene you are talking about is in the introduction for the deleted scenes.

Water to the dead did indeed not make it into the final edit. I love the scene, but this and the extended "He's taken the water of life" scene with Alia were even more difficult to fit in. Jarring as the other deleted scenes are, these were far worse, especially audio-wise. But it pained me to not put that one back in.

Damn, well, at least they got some of it right -- would have been nice to have had it all. Maybe in another twenty some years.

I have to say again that you did a great job. There was some editing that I really liked, for example when the Fremen Reverend Mother is talking and it becomes a voice over for the scene is which the fremen see Paul. I was curious as to why you cut out the line where Paul says "Caladan" when they are leaving for Dune. But great editing, and nice trims.

p.s. I was wondering if we could talk about an edit of Dune that I would like to do, and if perhaps I could use your version as a base, with your permission of course. All I want to do is add one scene. But, if I did it the reason to really do it would be to add the blue eyes. Perhaps we can discuss this.

If I may ask, what program did you use to add the "blue within blue eyes"?

I used Photoshop. Each shot was exported to .BMP, rotoscoped by hand, then re-assembled in TMPGEnc. Painful.

Anybody who wants to use what I did as a base, knock yourself out and go for it. Remember, its not my film anyway, just my tinkering.

Ok, I know you'll groan at this.. but Could you tell me EXACTLY how this was done? How do you make an mpeg out of BMP's with TMPGenc?

Sorry, I only gave half of the info before. The capture to BMP is actually done in VirtualDubMod. Instead of saving the images as AVI, you can save as a sequence of images. Then you can reassemble a series of images in TMPGEnc when you load. Photoshop is done in-between those steps. There are probably much better tools that do this without modifying individual images by hand, but I don't have them.

Ouch! That's painful, there has to be a less pain in the ass way to get around this.

What about After Effects? Would it have been possible to place a lock on the eyes to follow them around, and then attach the blue to them?

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

I think so.

What about the other fan edit of Dune? The pan-Scan one that was done before the new special edition Dune came out? All of the blue eyes where done for that version, who did that edit?

That was my Fan Edit of DUNE, and I used After Effects alot on that. Took about two weeks to do all the eyes in my off time.

Any chance of getting some seeder activity for this one? There are three of us stuck at the moment. I'm at 87% and I'd be willing to seed for a few weeks after I finish. I already got the xvid version and I gotta say, this is hands down the best version of Dune there is. Every sci fi fan should have it!
