The ABC HD was in 1:85 widescreen which I believe for the most part is the full frame of the film. Standard ABC and ABC family was in 4:3.
This site has comparisons of the wide and full screen versions of the films.

EDIT: I have heard that the scene of Sirius breaking into the common room was scripted but never shot.

Was the ABC-edit of "Sorcerer's Stone" ever shown in HD? And is the "Azkaban"-edit announced to be shown in HDTV as well?

What annoyed me was that the ABC-edits were full-frame, so having these as widescreen-DVD (or even 720p) would be fantastic!

YES, HP1 was in HD but I've not been able to source the capture - I've heard from reliable sources there was a 720p newsgroup release but who knows, as for Azkaban I REALLY would love to get the TS if they do the HD also (no word yet that I've seen) - BUT if someone here gets the TS files I’ll hook them up with a full set of the extended HP DVD’s from my collection

Well, I have the 720p-versions of the first three films, but I don't think they're the ABC-edits...

for those interested I did a comparison of the dvd frame to the HD frame:

you can see the HD frame is not quite as wide, I also noticed the colours and sharpness of Rikter's sample are not as good as the dvd, but I'd still love to get a copy of this when it's done (and HP1 + 3 if and when HD extended versions are available)

HDTV-television is usually just 16:9, while most movies have the standard 2.35:1 aspect ratio. But it's good to see that those HDTV-versions are actually open-matte, and not just cropped on the sides.

I tried about 5 scripts for the encoding (I did use the tools and advice that Moth3r gave me earlier in the year) and after testing on my set-top I found this one to be the best I could do without any help, I think it looks pretty good and I'm sure with more script work it could be improved but I'm okay with it as it is as it is a huge step above the standard TV cut

I have no idea what that means but I'm sure you know best, I wouldn't have noticed anything about your sample without seeing them side-by-side so I think it's pretty good already and I trust you to get it right, I'm really looking forward to getting a copy of this.

just wondering, how big is the TS file? as I'd love to get a copy of that.

Rikter: The preview looks fantastic. I am glad I learned--thanks to your earlier tutorials--how to burn DL discs for this one. Did the capture of the extended edit of Azkaban go well this weekend, or is it too early to tell?

I hadn't realised it had been broadcast yet (I'm in the U.K.), was it extended? and by how much? I'm currious to know how they completed of the scenes, and then I'll know if it's worth me carrying on with my extended version.

just a side note I really hate the complete lack of information regarding the films on any harry potter fan sites, all any of them seem to say is the details of the dvd, they don't even mention the extended versions, I may have to do something about that.

I sat through it and remember thinking it was really lame. I actually can't remember anything being added to it. Maybe the deleted scene with the bird flying around.

It looks like this version is set to re-air, and I'm trying to figure if it's worth fighting to get.

I believe it was just the Sir Cadagon scene and possibly the extended scene of the bird flying over Hagrid, from what I've read there wasn't anything new.

Hmm. I think I'd still work with it if I could get it.

It's not that I couldn't buy a cap card, it's that I'm to far for OTA HD and my cable company is the worst in the universe and refuses to bring me a good signal.

It took me a while to figure out what was extended about it, and finally I saw the Sir Cadogan scene.
