Obviously.

But I figured it'd be a good preview for folks that're too impatient to wait for the DVD.

I've heard that the editing is somewhat subpar, due to the range of sources that have been used, but it should be worth a look.

I've only watched the pre-credits so far, and love it! The way they set Zod and the rest free is almost exactly as I was going to do it, but now I don't have to worry about doing the effects. It's such a huge improvement over the original Sup 2. I can't wait to watch the rest...

Great, I would love to see some of your updated effects though, the train clip was really cool and I'd love to see some more examples and get a little bit more of a feel for what your doing.

Wait till you get to the "de-powering" scene with Brando, and the final Brando scene a bit later. Fantastic stuff there. Great acting from Reeve, and, of course, Brando.

Thanks! The problem with releasing more clips is that none of them have the audio fixed, which is something I'm planning to do at the end, after I've locked down the video edit. I may release a scene or two after I've started the audio master.

Yes, the Brando scenes are awesome. They really make the movie. I wasn't that impressed with much of the other stuff that was added. Some of Reeve's and Hackman's new voiceovers are horrible. I didn't care for the ending either. It was still very fun to watch, and it gave me a few good ideas.

Hi all,

I rushed together some new teaser trailers to celebrate the DVD set due out tomorrow. Links are on the first page. Let me know what you think. They're teasers in every sense of the word...

Go pick up the 14-disc set! It's going to be a pre-requisite for owning my edit.

I enjoyed the dropping the poem teaser, the others didn't do much for me I'm afraid.

Fair enough. Thanks for the response.

I'm bummed. I went searching for the 14 disc set today and every store in San Diego is out of it. Sigh...

Wait for the fixed ones to surface. At my Wal-mart, they one had three and I had to call Warner about the disc replacements.

Just a heads up. TheDigitalBits.com is reporting some flaws in the 14 disc set.
You might want to check out the details and take care when picking it up so you don't have to mail discs back.

I couldn't wait, so I picked up just the donner cut. I don't have time to wait for them to fix the 14 disc set. I don't want to miss another deadline.

You'll probably want to pick up the Lester cut too (haven't yet, myself). I gather it has some deleted stuff, including Ursa's "He will never become a man!", excerpted in the documentaries.

I can't wait to see this edit.

I remember loving these films when they first came out. Now I crawl out of my skin watching them. I don't know if it's because I'm older, they're dated, or are campy compared to todays films.

They're somewhat dated and campy, but they still inspire that sense of wonderment of many '80's sci-fi/fantasy flicks. Everything today is so overly serious, there's not many childlike tones in anything. After re-watching I and II after seeing the rather lifeless Supes Returns, I still found them enjoyable. Reeve is still a great choice for the role, even if the material wavers between good and cheesy.

We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

I dropped by a best buy to get the lester version (mainly for the 5.1 audio mix) and at the bottom of the rack, almost out of eyesight, and with no rack label was a 14 disc set! I almost didn't get it, because of the supposed problem with the sup3 disc, but I talked myself into it anyway. The checker said I was lucky because they thought they were out, and somebody found three in the back, and I was getting the last one.

Anyway, so I brought them home and popped in Sup3 and mine DOES have the commentary and the deleted scenes! So, I don't know if the problem was just with a certain batch, or if they've already fixed the issue.

Man, this set it awesome... Its giving me a lot of ideas.

I feel exactly the same way. And now that I've watched the movies 6 or 7 times, in bits, while editing, I feel that even more so. But the good parts stand out even stronger. Reeve, Kidder, Brando, and --heck, everyone's performance was SO good, and would stand up just as well today as it did then.

The S3 wasn't the only bug (though not everyone had the wrong S3 disc).

According to TheDigitalBits.com:

Just to be precise, the 1978 Superman theatrical edition disc (Disc One of the Ultimate Collector's Edition) is supposed to have the revised 5.1 audio (edited down from the 2001 Extended Edition's 5.1 remix) and the ORIGINAL THEATRICAL 2.0 audio. That's what the corrected discs will contain (right now, the 2.0 is the remix also rather than the original theatrical audio).

Hey Taolar, from what I can gather you're combining STM & SII, so do you expect to make significant changes to your original idea now that the Donner Cut has been released?

Well, the original plan was to release SoJ 1.0 before the Donner Cut, and then go back and incorporate parts of the Donner Cut into a 2.0 version. Since I was late bringing it out, SoJ 1.0 will be a melding of 1, 2, Donner, and including some small clips from 3 (and possibly 4), and at least one line of dialog from Superman Returns.

But no, no significant changes. The end result is turning out longer than I expected, only because there is more great Jor-El scenes in the Donner cut than I expected. And since they re-did the effects in the Phantom Zone escape scene, I'll have to do a lot less special effects work.

It sounds like your films is getting big. Are you still planning one epic film or will it be split into two parts?

It's still going to be one film. Hopefully not much over 3 hours.

So this has been my only hobby for the last month or so. Apart from work and hanging out with the family, I've only been editing Superman. And I'm really happy with the progress. I like the direction this film went ever since the Donner cut came out. And moving to using Premiere was the right choice. I've gotten a lot done, quicker. I just loaded up premiere and womble at the same time to compare the differences. There are easily 10 times as many edits in the new version. I've deleted more stuff, re-arranged things, and re-added some of the stuff that I took out before. Right now the edit is just under 3 hours, not counting the end credits. It may get a little longer or maybe shorter, but not by much. The overwhelming majority of the cuts are done. There are just a few rough scenes that need ironing or patching. I'm going on vacation right now and will be back on the 15th to work on the effects. After Effects is a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to getting back!
