Right. You were just making a simple observation. Sure.

So I lack maturity because I respect Adywan's decision? Interesting take.

wow. I didn't realise that this footage would have caused so much fuss. lol

the link for the guys that donated dies in a couple of days so i will then post it for the rest of you. This way everyone that have donated have still got to see it before everyone else so hopefully that will be ok with them. I ahve received a few emails saying that they don't mind if i share this with everyone, so i will. But you'll ahve to be patient. should be available by the weekend.

If you want to get technical I was the only one between who wrote that its completely adywans decision and he has every right to do whatever he wants with the clip.

You also didn’t make a case for not carrying about it being distributed to anyone, but you sure made it appear that you weren’t for the idea.

Interesting take.

Same thing could be said about how you interpreted what I said. And while were on the subject of complaining it could be in question whose really complaining and who’s not at this point. You would know best seeing as how you are a wizard of semantics and know the true nature of all words and know precisely how to label what someone ELSE is saying.

Didn’t mean to get your thread up in arms, and I appreciate you delivering the clip to everyone. NO hard feelings if I came off strong with what I originally said. To twist this into something good just look at it as a testament to how excited we all are for this release and how good your works been in the past. /end a$$ kissing

there is something i would like everyones oppinion on. For the Greedo scene do you think it would be better to the subtitles hardcoded to match the way they were originally as close as possible or have the default DVD subtitles leaving the video clean? I will go with the majority on this one.

If the vote is to have them hardcoded does anyone know of a specific font that is the closest possible to the original?

I like the hardcoded look myself.

I'm for hardcoded myself, providing you can get a decent font match.

I prefer the burnt-in subtitles.

The only downside is that, if someone wants to use your Greedo footage for a foreign-language edit, they won't be able to get rid of the English subtitles. I don't know if that's a major consideration though.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

well if its burnt in and somewhere in the black region below the image then i thnk everyone should be happy. I prefer the idea of dvd style subtitles - however i agree that they generally do have a sucky appearance.

Hi Adywan,

I don't contribute to this thread very often. but am watching it keenly and am very excited by many of the ideas you seem to be experimenting with.

However, I do have one minor concern....if you keep spoiling us with all these clips, is there going to be anything left in the final film that we haven't already seen. Some of us do like surprises y'know

My davice to people who don't want to be spoiled is don't watch the clips. I want to see this new clip alot because it sounds awsome and I have absolutely no problem being spoiled for a movie.

and he has only given us really a fraction of the movie.

But can you blame him? If I made clips as good as that, I'd be calling everyone I know to show them off.

Absolutely must have "burned-in" subtitles. The subtitles should also be "in-frame", not in the black bars. That's the way it was in theaters. Here are a few examples of the subtitles I created for my GOUT anamorphic conversion with DC PCM audio. I used "AlternateGotNo3D" with a 2 pixel black stroke. It is the closest thing IMO to the font used on the DC LD. You'll have to skew the text a little to look the same as the DC subs when it's anamorphically stretched. Let me know if you need the font.

Hm. i suppose. I just find it a little distracting tho - yes i know it's a subtitle and all. Otherwise that does look quite good.

i like the hardcoded subtitles, but i prefere the default DVD ones, as Erikstormtrooper said, i want to use your Greedo footage for my edit (other language, italian and french), The solution consists (if possible) to leave the greedo scene without subtitles as bonus of the dvd, or send it to the fans who want to include it in their editions.

Let me suggest that they would be placed in the frame as if they were burned in and on by default, but you would be able to opt out if you don't want them.
With the anticipated popularity of this edit, I think there will be foreign-language edits of this one.
Perhaps you could just put the scene without subtitles somewhere on the disc as an additional title, for the benefit of future editors.

English is not my native language. Even though I don't have any problems understanding it and remember 98% of the dialogue I do prefer to have subtitles in my native language anyway. Having two subtitles in different languages looks very bad.

I think that's a good suggestion ^^^^^ If it's possible. I myself prefer burned in subtitles, but I can see how someone might want to change the language or use it for another edit or whatever.

I agree 100% with this. It is an english language film, and in its original form it couldn't be properly watched without the subtitles which were therefore within the frame as part of the presentation.

You shouldn't do things with your edit (e.g. avoid burnt-in subs) because someone might use it for something else. Maintain the scenes on your hard drive without subs so that if someone wants to do a foreign language version of this they can get in touch with you.

Again, you shouldn't make concessions on your project (especially ones that eat up bytes) when it shouldn't be too hard for someone to contact you privately.

Wow. I guess your right. I should have made a case for something that I had no say in and about which I didn't feel strongly one way or the other. And in fact I was the one who was complaining. Thank you for setting me straight!
