I was 5 when my family bought a VCR. When I finally got a copy of each Star Wars movie on VHS I thought it was the greatest thing ever in my young life. My parents heavily monitored any TV/movie watching I did, so it was a treat to be allowed to watch it. In fact I remember the first time that Star Wars A New Hope aired on network tv. I had become sick that day, and slept most of it, but my parents let me watch Star Wars that night (my very first viewing since I was too young to see it in the theater) and it was amazing, and so I remember that day still it made such an impression. I don't know what movie or other entertainment experience kids today could compare with, but back then it was an end all for me in 1982.

I got my first internet computer in 1996, and yeah, it's basically a piece of junk now. I could use it to play some games, or write papers, but why bother, lol. So I think technology has definitely accelerated very quickly over the past 10 years.

I still have a soft spot for the VCR, tho. Something like your tv always had to be on either channel 3 or 4 to play the movie. Those were the days. It was like picking up some sort of signal from the gods. Turn the dial to channel 3, now Return of the Jedi starts!
