Anyone know whether the ABC broadcast Saturday night is going to be an extended version much like the first two, or the regular theatrical release?

Thanks in advance!

If it's on regular ABC free channel, it will likely be shortened for running time. ABC family showed extended versions but I don't know how you could extend the third film. There were only 5 deleted scenes and I really think the Shrieking Shack scene should not have left out so much and felt so hurried.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

Yeah, regular film and trimmed for running time at that. Ah well--As you said, not as many deleted scenes in HPIII. Chris Columbus shot everything in sight.

According to the commercials (can't find it on the Web site), ABC Family will, as part of the Harry Potter Weekend on December 1-3, show the extended version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Anyone able to capture this?

Chris Columbus didn't direct Prizoner of Azkaban. Alfonso Cuarón (A Little Princess, Y tu mama tambien) did. (and it's so much the better because of it)

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

I think he was contrasting Chris Columbus' shooting method to Alfonso Cuarón's. That is to say: Columbus shot 'everything in sight' meaning there was lots of deleted footage, whereas Cuaron didn't shoot as much extraneous stuff and so there isn't as much deleted footage.

Yeah, what he said, although I definitely like Cuaron's style more than Columbus, particularly for Azkaban, which was intended to be darker. I'm wondering if the ABC edit will be re-edited by Cuaron himself (as with the Columbus films), or if someone else will do it. I have a hard time imagining him going back into it.

It will be extended, but it might cause issues. One because alot of shots weren't finished with CGI and second the theatrical version cut out the Surius breaking into the common room at night plot and just had it be mid day, but the deleted scene has that sub plot, so are they going to add more deleted scenes than weren't the dvd and bring back that sub plot and remove what was in the theatrical version?? It should be an interesting watch.

I hope they do add in the part where Sirius breaks into the common room. That would be awsome.

I hope so, because that was one of the few things that really bugged me about the film. And that bloody ending grrrrr haha.
I was just thinking, it is going to be Pan and Scanned, because POA wasn't filmed on Super 35 from what I understand. NOOO!!!!!!!

I see no reason why they can't have someone come in and finish the effects for the deleted scenes, and no reason why Cuaron has to be the one to re-edit it. What happened with the Python broadcasts was the exception, not the rule: Movies often have additional footage added in for television, and it's rarely the director who does it.

So I'm hopeful that this could be pretty cool.

And I hope someone can capture and upload or torrent or PiF.

there would be no need to remove anything that was in the theatrical version, the daylight attempt to get into the common room was failed but caused the fat lady to be replaced, and only latter did Sirius get into the common room using the list of passwords that Neville had lost, it is much the same in the book. In order to extend the film by more than about 2-3 min more scenes would need to be used that weren't on the dvd but a fair few more were scripted and may well have been shot, very rarely do all deleted scenes make it onto the dvd (e.g. the peeves scenes shot for the first film)

Good point, so maybe they will do that. They also shot Peeves for the third one from my understanding. It was the part were he is messing with the gum and Lupin shoots it up his nose.

Peeves was a missed opportunity.

I agree

But there will be directors cuts/ Extended version of all the films after they finish the 7th movie, and Peeves will be in 1st one.

He might be, but I just don't really think there is a chance that they will include him.

Will they filmed a couple scenes with him for the 1st and one for the 3rd.

I agree, I'm sure they will release extended cuts since they shot loads of extra stuff for GOF and also apparently for OOTP (the director said he'd have to cut it down by at least 40 min to meet the required time), there is also a quote from the guy how plays Percy saying Chris Columbus intends to include the Peeves stuff in a "director's cut". Although I think the third film will be the least extended as it seems to be missing least where as GOF was obviously missing a lot.

I have never heard that they shot scenes with peeves for the third film, it's not in the version of the script that I have read which does include Sirius breaking into the common room, and the much needed explanation from Lupin that they made the map and why the patronus is a stag.

If they did do senes with peeves for the third film it definitely shows an intention to do extended cuts.

I used to have this particular script, but when I cleared my hardrive it got deleted. Is there anyway I could get a copy of this? I would really love to have it again.

the script is here.

The Common room break in starts at scene 87, I think from reading it you can see why it was cut, they tried to make it a hero moment for harry, and includes crookshanks chasing scabbers out of the room. It could work if edited down a bit, I have been working on an extended version for a while now and I know how to bridge the gap left by these missing scenes but I haven't yet got the energy to create the new scenes from scratch, I think I'll wait and see if they do run an extended version and what is and isn't included.

I know that there is no reason to trust this script to be genuine, but I believe it is since it contains the deleted scenes and some other differences to what made it to the final film where as the other Harry Potter scripts on the site are just transcripts of the theatrical version of the film.

If somebody lets Rikter know about the supposed airing of the Extended Cut I'm sure he'd be willing to record it. I believe he recorded the first 2 in their ABC Extended versions which he then authored to DVD-R.

Thanks Rikter! Looking forward to it, as always.

You guys think maybe they'll let Terry Gilliam re-edit it?
