Hi.

I don’t know if talking about these things is OK, but I had this idea on my head and wanted to express it.

Considering that the new CASINO ROYALE film is a reboot, cut off from the rest of the Bonds, I was wondering if we could re-edit various films into Bond films.

For instance, the black and white CR. Could it be re-edited into a Bond film, and more specifically, since its black and white, a prequel to DR. NO? And when I mean re-editing, I mean a good re-edit that could introduce the Connery-Lazenby-Moore Bond.

And what about Tailor of Panama? Could that one be re-edited into a Bond film that introduces Bond before his 00 designation? Or as a sequel to DAD? The reason I suggest the re-edit into a pre-007 film is because I’d like to differentate the Dalton-Brosnan Bond from the others.

I’m not sure if I made my point clear, but thats what I had in mind for Bond re-edits. I didn’t mention NSNA, because, well, I own one such re-edit - and I’m very happy with it!

Well? What do you think?

OK, sorry if I sound rude or anything, but no replies in a day? Where my ideas so bad?

I mean, TAILOR always had a Bond-ian flair. With some clever editing, it could be turned into either Bond's first mission (thus a good prequel to the Dalton/Brosnan Bond) or a sequel to DAD, where Bond has to prove himself more efficiently. I know it can.

Also, the black and white CR I haven't seen, but I think it could be turned into a Bond prequel to DR. NO, setting up Bond like today's CR did (Well, sort of). That way, CR would open the Connery-Lazenby-Moore Bond series and the re-edit of NSNA (which has music from all Bond films, and which I own as well) would close it.

Anyway, what do you ALL think?

It's a neat idea. I've been wanting to get a copy of the NSNA edit but haven't been able to yet. Some other edits that make these two films more 'Bondian' would be cool.

Your ideas sound alright though I haven't seen either the original B/W CR or the "Tailor of Panama". Do you have copies of them to edit? Or are you suggesting that others take on these ideas?

I'm a bit confused. Please excuse me if there is something I am missing. But I am not aware of a black & white CR. The original version from the 60's with Peter Sellers is in color.

No, in 1954, I think, there was a black and white version of CR where Barry Nelson played James Bond for the first time... Except, it was Jimmy Bond and it was, I think, not sure, the CIA he worked for. Here's more information http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0310853/

I've actually just started watching the special features on every UE Bond DVD (I bought the collection). The "Inside Dr. No" documentary on Dr. No (which was on the SE DVD as well) mentions the 1954 B&W telemovie production and even shows the guy who must've appeared on-screen beforehand to introduce it. I think it was said that the 1960's CR DVD has an incomplete version of the 1954 telemovie and that someone on these boards had acquired the full-thing and was going to put it on a Bond disc. Does anybody know where on the forum that info is (ie. what thread)?

I have picked up this DVD from ebay uk.

I will let you all know what it is like when it arrives.

The official VHS is still available to buy on ebay and I am sure that a worldwide search there will find more copies for sale.

Oh yeah, Agonybooth.com has a review of it. It's called "Climax! Casino Royale", and from all accounts, it's really stupid. It features an American secret agent named Jimmy Bond.

Really? I only heard it was a mediocre film, not the be considered with. Anywho, WOW, the artwork is great. Is there any way to obtain this DVD?

And of course, it'd be nice to see all those re-edits above. Tailor of Panama could turn into a Bond picture, but not without a lot trimming, me thinks. The intention is to make it a prequel to the Dalton and Brosnan 007 films, right? Honestly, THAT would be quite hard, impossible even.

Does anyone have any ideas, cause I don't.

Are you saying that the mission of a Bond edit is impossible? I say Never say never.

Be mindful you aren't making your decisions until you know what you have to work with. Get the discs first and watch em. It's too bad you can't use old Remington Steele episodes and such.

Thanks. Thing is, with CR being a clear restart, I thought we (I mean as a community of Bond fans associated with the re-editing process) could deviate the Connery-Moore Bonds from the Dalton-Brosnan Bonds by adding films that bookend either.

In the Connery-Moore Bond, I thought we could use the black and white CR, re-edit it so that Bond is more Bond (apparently he's american and all), and sort of have as a prequel to DR. NO, like a large pre-title sequence to DR. NO in essence - an introduction to Bond before Bond. And NSNA, which as a re-edit already exists - I could always put a link to the site from where I got it.

And for Dalton-Brosnan... I had this crazy idea that TAILOR OF PANAMA could've been done as a prequel, using the pre-title sequence of CR and mixing it with DAD's scene where Bond is seated with a gun to Colonel Moon. That could be a sort of introduction to his gunbarel, too, and an essential way to re-introduce Bond for a new continuity as he's to become 00. And Panama could be his first assignment, from which he obtains, by the end of the film, his 007 code. Some scenes would surely have to be trimmed like some rather explicit examples of Brosnan's sexual tastes in the film. I have to rewatch it to determine how we can work something out.

I am actually, rather surprised that not anyone, so far, has come to say "Look, we have what we have, we don't want these re-edits, we don't need them, Brosnan sucks" and so on and so on. I was afraid I'd be gunned down by the minute.

Then again, I still might...

One thing though, I can see why you want NSNA to close the Conner-Lazenby-Moore Bond series esp with Bond being depicted as getting old and even indicating that he wants to retire. But won't the actual plot of NSNA be a huge problem? How can it fit into the EON continuity when it's plot is a remake of an earlier Bond mission (Thunderball)? It'd look really odd to see that both SPECTRE and Blofeld are suddenly back from the grave and doing almost exactly what they did in Thunderball. Technically it ignores most of the SPECTRE related EON movies. Even with the re-edit of NSNA that exists, the plot is a major problem. Is it possible to re-edit the movie so that plot is a better fit into the EON continuity? Simply editing the music and inserting gunbarrel & title sequence doesn't solve the problem (but it does make it a more enjoyable movie to watch on it's own)

Meanwhile, I've seen some clips of the NSMcCloryA edit and they look really nice with all the Bond music. How can I get it though?

I'd really like to obtain CR of 1954. Maybe Batman Beyond is right about it, it could be re-edited, somehow.

But Tailor of Panama is extremely difficult, if impossible, to re-edit as a Bond film... POSSIBLE SPOILERBrosnan in that film betrays his service, essentially, and goes away with much, much cash. Plus, the film's about Geoffrey Rush's character, Harry. How can you/do you propose to re-edit that film into a Bond, supposedly (if I understood correctly) into a prequel to Dalton's TLD?

I believe this is a suggestions thread and whoever suggests something, can hope to make it either himself or someone with more editing experience.

I like the idea, a film that could be the start to Brosnan/Dalton Bond. I always considered them seperate from the others, because they're so much younger than them. Isn't there, though, ANY Dalton film that could possibly be re-edited into a Dalton/Brosnan prequel?

That's from the latest news update on The Digital Bits. Looks like this movie will be available on Blu-Ray early next year.

The Bond videogame Everything Or Nothing would probably make a decent movie, and it's technically the last Pierce Bond "movie", since it had him and a bunch of celebrity voices. Not necessarily a prequel or anything, but I bet it's better than some of Brosnan's own bad Bonds...
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

Yeah, that'd be great... But it'd take a hell amount of time, and I know I couldn't do that.

How can anyone do a movie out of a video game? I know a recent video-game-re-edited-into-movie happened recently, but that was a painful procedure, wasn't it?

Also, about TAILOR... I believe TAILOR could be turned into a prequel... Don't know how, but I think its possible. I think if re-worked properly, it could re-present a ruthless Bond the way CR did, but in a different way... A Bond that uses other people's imagination to do his job.

Anyone who has seen the film that can actually contribute any ideas as to how this (the prequeling of the Dalton-Brosnan entries via TAILOR OF PANAMA) can be done?

It's incomplete. I read on Wikipedia that it's missing act III but at the time, they didn't have the complete version so when they found it, they released it as a separate VHS.

The American {SpyGuise} VHS video release of CR runs for an extra one minute more than the other versions {including the one c/w the 1967 version DVD} . It shows Le Chiffre (Peter Lorre) actually being shot twice. MGM, now owns the rights to this production, just as it purchased the rights to the spoof Casino Royale (1967).

I bump this up to ask about CR. Anyone know how can I find the FULL version of CR 54?

And a question to those who have seen it: I want to re-edit this as a prequel (still in B&W, to evoke the sense of an old tale) to DR. NO. Am I foolish to think of that? I mean, can it be done or not? Aside from add-liping the "Card-Sense Jimmy Bond" and any CIA references and all.

Also, what do you all think of the idea of taking an irrelevant Brosnan or Dalton, spy-related, movie, and turn it into a prequel to TLD, LTK, GE, TND, TWINE and DAD? I only want to seperate the film from the Connery-Moore entries, since with the new CR and all, I like to believe that the Daltona and Brosnan entries are a seperate universe to the Connery/Moore (Moore can still, somewhat, convince me he's the same Bond with Connery), with OHMSS a common link to both - it happened in both universes, that is.
