No, but LFL sure has a major say in what retailers can sell the discs for (not to mention how starwars.com is pimping the lower prices already).

Hmm, this price is actually tempting but I doubt I'll be getting this release unless its totally dirt cheap. I'll wait for Lucasfilm to do the movies justice before I reward them.

I'm picking up a backup set just in case.

No they don't. This is actually one case where I agree with Randy (don't get use to it Randy).

LFL gives an MSRP, but nothing beyond that. If retailers want to sell it for 1 cent, that's their prerogative. They'll likely lose money on it, but they can do that if they want to. I'm almost willing to bet they're losing some money on the 9.99 price as it is. It's probably cheaper for them to lose a buck or two at that price than it is to have to box up all the copies and send them back to LFL after 12/31 (assuming LFL does some kind of recall).

So while LFL is advertising this new lower price, they really have no say in how low the retailers decide to go.

Thanks and no I won't get used to it!

Go ahead and blame Luca$ for the OOT, etc.... but he has nothing to do with how much Best Buy sells his movie for... I know folks like to blame him for everything from Han shooting second to Global Warming but he has nothing to do with this... and god forbid SW.com tell people they can get the movies for 10 bucks... the nerve of them... hawking affordable gifts around the holidays. For shame.

"Among many things I have to be thankful for are you, the fans. I know that some of you haven't liked every single thing that I've done with the saga, and that you have a strong sense of ownership over all things Star Wars. But take that passion and devotion and channel it into a creative project of your own."

Lucas brought the slab that Bon Scott drunk,
He scored all of Jimi's junk.
George flew Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane,
Mama' Cass' sandwich? He's to blame !

Best Buy has them on sale for $9.99 NOW. If you don't want to deal with Black Friday and really wanna snag 'em, go today. Not sure how long the sale is for, if it's past Friday or not. The Wal-Mart ones do come with the '80's movie comic tie-ins, but I didn't see any of those left in the one near me earlier this week (unless they're hoarding them for Friday's bins).
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

Yeah, I was thinking about picking up another set so I could get the graphic novels at Wal-mart, but supposedly they're only on sale between 5-11am on Fri.

I think $9.99 is a damn good price for a 2-DVD set. I don't expect they'll sell for less than that retail before the end of the year.

I may get them on this sale or at my store in the next week, least so I can legally have the gout for right now.

There were tons of the comic book ones at the Wal-Mart near me as of around 8am in a display that they obviously waited until today to bring back out.

I dunno, this may be just me, but i get the feeling this is a two fingered salute to all the fans of the OOT. Two months after the official release that we moved mountains to get on DVD we get a semi sub-par release that now feels as if its thrown into the bargin bin at the local store. Lucas may state that supply exeeded demand for the OOT and wasn't deemed enough of success in the retail market, hence they are trying to cutback on their losses on this release with a price reduction. Not that i hate Lucus, i just hate commercialism.

Yeah, that is def. one way to look at it. I'm still sticking with my theory, though, and Lucas is getting his last digs where he can before the ultimate product drops next year. Think about it for a second:

--Lucas supposedly hates the OUT and makes all sorts of outrageous claims about it not being seen again.
--For whatever reason, it is coming out. Lucas figures he'll take one last shot at the OUT fans and make more $; a total win-win for him.
--He releases the OUT on 09/12 but makes the fans A) buy them seperately B) buy them with the SE C) buy them in a non-anamorphic version.
--Closer to Christmas and the end of the year, the fans are slapped in the face yet again because the prices have been cut in HALF!
--In '07 we see a cleaned up OUT, "forcing" the OUT fans to buy AGAIN.

I think Lucas knows he has lost the war but he figures he'll take one more battle...

That's a plausible theory if I ever read one. Home video market-wise I've only given my money to Lucas three (minus 1) times. VHS, 2004 DVD's (watched someone else's copy - returned them), 2006 DVD's. I haven't bought any prequel stuff as I know I'll get them in the 2007 box (not that it matters, but it's a bonus to campare to fan editions).

Well, geez people here should know you can get these movies for free if you really want to. So $3 could be considered too much. GL dug his own hole.

I bought the movies when they came out and paid full price. That doesn't mean that I'm not aware of other avenues.

Well, GL can make some money, like he's no stranger to....hehe. BUT the more this happens the more people are going to be displeased. He's said before that negativity hurts...criticisms of the films, etc. So we know the man isn't unaware of these things. I guess he just chooses to live in a bubble, but he only has himself to blame, and it can't be a good experience. Lots of people I know only like the OUT, so he's not going to successfully bury it. With a situation such as this he ceases to matter, and that's sad and pathetic really.

Well, now Lucas knows that there is a market for the OOT. He probably won't do anything with that knowledge, but there you go.

To be able to watch the OOT in french and spanish is not worth spending $30.
