Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released) — Page 54

Oh, I was just agreeing that to the casual observer, it would look pretty geeky. But I personally appreciate that there is this much attention going just into the cover art logo! It's bringing out some great work, and you're doing a great job, klokwerk! The new logos look really nice. Personally, I favor 9a, 9c, and 10c. Something about the slant of the B versions looks strikes me as a little modern looking. But that's just me. They all look great!

The problem with the stacked "of the" is that it makes "Shroud" bigger than "Dark Side" which is not good. If you look at the ROTJ logo, you'll see that "of the" is only stacked in the one-line logo, not the box logo, which has "Return of the" all equally sized and "Jedi" bigger.

Should the first "S" form the top bar? That was done in the ESB logo, IMHO, to accomodate "The" without shrinking "Empire." It looks okay because the bar is broken up by "The." I don't think it looks so good having the "S" form an unbroken bar.

You could put a bar between "Shroud" and "Dark Side," broken up by "of the" but then you're back to the problem of "Shroud" being too big.

So, for all the above reasons I nominate either Klokwerk #9b, as is, or Klockwerk #10b with another bar above "Shroud," but not made from the "S."

Phew.

Agree 100 % with THX. Would also add 10c as a nice angled option.

The logo and artwork can contribute a lot to the concept of this fan edit-- the idea of an "OT" version of Episode II. The logos that have bars seem far more like the title of a movie to me. Logos without the bars, such as 9a, look like they could be the logo for a toy or a book, but not so much another movie on par with "The Empire Strikes Back." The graphic weight of the bars enhances the title. (The logo on my mock-up is one of the first provided by Klokwerk-- one of the reasons I called it "out of date." But the color matched that piece of art perfectly, so I used it. It's nice, but Klokwerk has produced better ones since then).

I think a cleaned up version of Trooperman's artwork will be perfect-- easy to read, substantial, and similar to (but unique from) the other OT title logos. De-emphasizing the words "of the" helps get across the poetic image of a shroud descending from the nebulous "Dark Side." Plus, it comes from the guy who's doing all the work in the first place. What more could anyone ask for?

Someone with cray photoshop skills could add the artwork from the book with the battle scene and the painted character portraits, that would be cool. Another option might be to put the battle paiting on the back cover, I jus think it's too cool not to use.

Okay, this sucks-- but I did it and it took me an hour and so you can at least laugh at it. Someone with more skills could actually make this look cool. I couldn't get the logo I wanted or anything really the way I wanted-- but this gave me a vague idea how cool this could be...

That's a good start to the cover. What I would suggest is "blending" the picture so the Clonetroopers are in front of the droids and Trade Federation ship. This would allow the entire painting to be used on one side, as if we're going for a movie poster style we wouldn't want a "wrap-around" cover. Then the "concept art characters" could be photoshopped in over the crashed ship, though I have no idea what character artwork to use. Am I making sense?

Here's another crappy mock-up (you shouldn't encourage me). This is really meant to inspire someone who actually knows what they're doing-- but I can kind of imagine Trooperman's edit already sitting in this box. Ahh- happy dreams.

I don't normally post in this thread, but I must say that this poster rocks! I love the way it captures the Original Trilogy feel while obviously putting a new spin one of the prequels. The only thing I would change is to remove the black box around "The Star Wars Saga Continues" and maybe drop it down from the top an 1/8". The SOTDS logo you're using in the bottom right corner is also my favorite of the bunch.

Good work.

That is very sweet. Where does the paintbrush style photo/artwork come from? Am I right in saying its Ralph McQuarrie concept art?

I loved all of the recent artwork posted, but that last poster is just fantastic. The logo you used is also my new favorite- it looks like you used my #3, but made the bottom bar a little less bold.

I love it. Only thing is, you should change the words, "This summer" to "This fall". Because winter doesn't begin until December 21, and this edit will go public before that date.

I just need Jar-Jar now, and then I can begin the revision process!

Believe me, guys- I'm just as excited as you right now for this to be done. I can't WAIT to see the whole thing in sequence, in my living room

Thanks for the compliments-- I really hope someone who knows photoshop will do a better version of all this stuff someday.

The artwork came from the "Art of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones" and I don't think it's McQuarry. I don't know who it is, but I like it.

Here's a version that incorporates the kind suggestions made here.

Edit to add: sorry, no hi-res version available. This was created as posted. I hope this fast-and-dirty draft can be a guide to someone who knows how to create a hi-res version (cause I don't). :-(

Do you mean high res for the artwork or the poster?

The artist is Ryan Church. He's the concept design supervisor on AOTC and ROTS as well as being a creature designer on Spielberg's War of the Worlds. His artwork is amazing. Like McQuarry was to the OT, he's almost single-handedly responsible for creating the look and feel of those two Star Wars films. Many of his concept paintings actually end up as completed shots in the movie. This is a link to another one of his pieces from AOTC Here

And there's a ton of other pics on his official website:

Great stuff, InfoDroid!

Here's another hit-and-run rip-o-matic. Consider this a rough of "Style B" for SOTD. Okay, I'll stop now.

updated -- Mace has BLUE lightsaber in "SOTD"!

Either, or. Whichever. I'd like to play around with the artwork in photoshop.

Great News! Good luck! I found all the elements for the credits and "Saga Continues" stuff by googling Empire Strikes Back poster images. There's not much out there by way of high-res images of the credits/studio logos and stuff-- but there is some. This might be useful: Fox Logo

Man, these posters are just fantastic. They really capture a the essence of the original trilogy posters that had artwork featured. Really good job. Let me ask you all this, is there anyway to make "real" quality posters of these images? If this version is the success that its building up to be, then I think i'd be interested in have a poster like that.
