Pretty good.

THANK YOU.

I'd been hearing rumblings about MST3K type of commentary track for one of the Star Wars films. It is definately a great idea, too bad they could never get George to go along with something like that.

It's actually unfortunate that the guys from MST3K could never do more modern films.

No, they made it and you can download it too. They get around copy rights by reproducing none of the audio or video for the movie. You just play the track while the movie plays.

Watch the Star Trek V clip. It's hilarious.

I love MST3K, and I concede that Mike Nelson was arguably the greater host out of the two, but really, it seems like there's something missing there on that clip. Like, you know, funny material.

RiffTrax is like MST3K: A lot are great, but there are some episodes that completely miss the mark. There's also the episodes where there's a few amazing riffs, but the rest is pretty dismissable. Having not seen the Phantom Menace one yet (I create DVDs with new audio tracks of the RiffTrax so I don't have to bother playing back two devices at once), but Star Trek V is pure gold.

MST3K in it's prime had a dozen writers behind the jokes. Obviously, just one or two of the cast doing a film by themselves isn't going to be at the same level.

Mike Nelson was the primary joke writer even back from the beginning of the show (if I remember correctly).

Great at being completely unfunny!

It was really a mistake to try to upstage George Lucas's comic genius. The scene where that Eopie (yes, I had to look up the name of that fuckin' thing) farts in Jar-Jar's face might be the funniest moment ever committed to film. When Binks follows it up with the classic "PEE-YOUSA" line, every comedic scene in cinematic history was basically rendered irrelevant. Just out-and-out hilarity. Anybody who has seen The Phantom Menace is probably still laughing after that one. I know I am.

Don't even get me started about the scene when Jar-Jar steps in shit. Lucas packed more laughs into that 5-second moment than Monty Python could achieve in their entire careers.

Whenever I'm feeling depressed I'll just watch the scene in Episode II where 3PO gets his head switched with the battle droid. When he starts spouting puns I just laugh until the tears are running down my face.

If I knew how to do that, I would do the same.

There's some tutorials if you look around on the RiffTrax message board.

I've watched this RiffTrax now. Verdict: Hilarious.

Like I said in the above post, I'm a big RiffTrax fan and loved the Episode I commentary. Well, this was announced today...

And, kind of in conjunction, this as well:

The episode of Chad Vader comes out next Friday (the April 6th).

I watched the Episode One riff track several weeks ago, I really like it much. It had a few funny parts, but I really got the impression the guys were bored while watching the movie. I have always liked MST3K and I have seen other Riffs and liked them, but this one kept tempting me to turn it off.
