The sheer amount of detail in these shots is just amazing

Look here:

Vader Shot

You actually can see the camera team in Vaders eye reflection!

It´s from the German Premiere HD broadcast. And yes, they reverted "STAR WARS" back into "KRIEG DER STERNE". Talk about consistency...

Yeah that's from a thread in preservation. I'm totally amazed by the detail... darn i wish I had something that could play HD...

This is so great, so much details now to spot!

Bad cgi

Look at Han´s hand, especially the pointing finger overlapping Jabba! Now we can see how badly the cgi has been inserted into the original shot.

This converted me right on the spot now. We need the OOT in HDTV! My gosh, these images are WORLDS apart from standard resolution Television. The sharpness of the 30 year old film stock is just amazing!

Are there any captures of Luke? I'd appreciate it if someone could point them out to me. I was clicking the links randomly last nite, and I couldn't find any. I thought they were in chronological order, but apparently they're not.

The detail is amazing- but that shot of Han and Ben in the MF cockpit really show how crappy the skintones are due to the botched color-timing.

Damn shame these are the SEs. Oh well.

Errr... maybe I'm blind or something, but I don't see a single darn thing that makes these screenshots look any better than the non-HD versions. Actually, I think a lot of these look just like the 2006 DVD.

Perhaps you should click on the picture to zoom them in. You most probably are not running a 1920 x-resolution.

Look at all those faces, man! You can see EVERY pore on them! Look how messed up Vaders mask is on the first picture! These are all details which CAN NOT be seen on the standard DVD!

Look here at C3PO´s costume!

You can clearly see EVERY wrinkled cable hanging out of his metal body! These are ALL details missing on the DVD in meagre 720x480 resolution!

You can almost count of how much hair fibres his eyebrows are made of! All the small tiny wrinkles around his eyes. And the eyes themselves!

Jedi Randy, ask McCallum which one is Lucas's vision:

1980 ESB Version: Luke does not scream when he plummets from Vader on Cloud City

1997 ESB SE Version: Luke DOES scream when he plummets from Vader on Cloud City

2004 ESB DVD Version: Luke does not scream when he plummets from Vader on Cloud City


I guess were still waiting for that final vision that Lucas couldn't achieve back in 1980

As far as HD standards go these are not the best versions. I see lots of compression artifacting. Still, the sheer resolution makes visible detail that literally didn't exist in the previous SD version--I'm incredibly thrilled just to see the caps! Imagine the OOT?? I am drooling right now...

I also realise how shitty the CGI is integrated. Very out of place and fake. When i see the Jabba pic from the SE all i can think is "do they really expect audiences to buy this as real?" It just looks so cartoony and fake.

I DID Zoom in. Dude, I'm not stupid. Blind to this quality everyone else is seeing maybe, but not stupid.

In fact right after looking at the pic with the two moons (which, when zoomed, didn't look at all detailed or pristine) I went and compared the scene to the same one on my 2006 SE DVD. Still no difference.

Then you don't have a very good eye for detail. If you were to take a cap of the DVD it would take up half as much screenspace as the HD version--the HD versions reveals fine detail that literally doesn't register on the standard-definition version. Zoom in on a dvd cap--it quickly becomes blurry and detail smudges together. An HD cap will have a much higher detail threshold before things biggin to smear together.

Some people get HD, some don't! Luckily I do and I love these Screenshots. If only they would be on HD-DVD!
