Bond, James Bond — Page 5

I think you're right.

I really wish Hollywood would just visit this site, read our comments, and hire us all as script doctors. Lucasfilm too.

wouldn't that be nice. The O-OT would have been on DVD years ago and the PT would have been much, much better, and Bond would still be great. Why won't they listen us?

I tried to contact Eon for ages on a plot that would have tied together all five incarnations of Bond over the 40 years and made the entire franchise make sense. But of course, without a lawyer, they wouldn't even take my call or open my letter. Returned unopened. Funny how they knew it was creative input in the letter though. Hmmmmmm.

Whatever, they've screwed themselves.

I am curious, how would you have tied it together?

They cannot open it because if they, through a coincidence, create something similar to your idea, you could sue them.

And now a word from Pierce Brosnan describing George Lazenby -

"George is just an angry, old, pissed off guy. He was never an actor, but some pissed-off Aussie who doesn't know how to show his feminine side. I met him, and he's got that kind of brittle edge to him."

Is this a real quote?

Found it at IMDB. I thought it was worth a few minutes. Of course, if I had made Lazenby's mistake, I'd probably be angry and "brittle" too.

I don't think chosing Craig is the problem here. The problem here is the way they decided the Craig should play Bond. I think the same thing did in Brosnan.

I thought poor plots/scripts were what did in Pierce Brosnan.

The outgoing James Bond 007 recruits his replacement, who takes on the name to further his image of invincibility and ever-present youthfulness.

And in a bit of fan boy gushing, it actually had each of the previous James Bonds return to teach him something about his character. My favorite was actually Lazenby, teaching him the art of changing his voice. It also got into the fact that he prematurely left after making the mistake of falling in love and getting married, which, upon her death, forced the "original" James Bond to return to clean up the mess.

Connery and his skill at cards (esp. Baccarat) was going to play in significantly into the plot of Casino Royale, which would have been his first assignment as the rest of the film plays out.

It was all written a bit Remo Williams-ish, with the new recruit being obtained in a black-ops type maneuver by Brosnan and taken to an undisclosed facility to begin his training. It also smacked of Andy Garcia's recruitment in The Untouchables. But even my wife bought into it and supported me trying to solicit the idea to EON. If any of my silly notions ever convince her to be positive, then the material must have legs, because she's argumentative by nature about just about anything.

Even if nobody else returned, these skills and the 007 history could have been passed down by the "recruiter" explaining his 40-year longevity.

brosnan is still the real james bond to me after connery. I will be boycotting casino royale to voice my displeasure at them cutting him loose when he clearly had a contract to film a sequel to die another day. damn hollywood for there quick and cheap prequels to save a few bucks on actor's salaries.

I agree it's not cool that they dicked on Brosnan's contract, but I don't think money saving was the motive. However good a Bond Brosnan was, the films (with the exception of Goldeneye, IMO) were lame. That's not Brosnan's fault, but he was associated with a series of crap Bond films and when the series needed an overhaul (which it badly did), a new Bond was needed. I wish they'd waited 10 years or so though and then triumphantly returned.

That's an awesome story, ADM! Did you write a full script, or just a summary?

Story, treatment, partial script.

Never submitted it, merely inquired to Eon HOW I could submit it. THAT is what got returned unopened. Lame, huh?

Not having an agent or knowing where to find one, all I wanted was to ask where to look.

I'm having the same trouble with record companies. I understand why they have to do it, but it's bloody frustrating. There's so much talent out there going to waste.

And so many non-talents who don't deserve the fame/success/adoration showered upon them. Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears come to mind here.

Exactly. Same deal in the film industry - are these producers and script writers on crack?

Although I have nothing against having Daniel Craig as Bond, I absolutely hate the fact that they "reset" the series, even changing some conventions as having Bond always as 007 and changing the gunbarrel shooting scene. There should be the gunbarrel scene, fading into a 5 minute teaser sequence, the musical opening, and the movie... They've completely messed up with the series...

Let's put it this way--I've always hated Bond, and I'm interested in this film. They must be doing something right!

I saw the film tonight and Casino Royale is basically and this sums it up

The complete opposite of what you new about the 007 movies.

I won't get into the details but it's a thunderous movie that I coax you to see.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching Casino Royale earlier tonight - Daniel Craig is a welcome return to a more rugged Bond, the stunts were superb - yet etched in realism, the story held interest throughout, the women were great as ever, and for me was a very strong and engaging movie.

I left the cinema certainly wanting to see a follow-up 007 film soon

I won't be seeing it for about 7 hours, but I love the fact that it's played like Bond's first mission.

Even though they pretend the same character has continued for - pulease - 40 years ... I've always thought of each new actor as a new Bond, getting the name and number issued to him upon the demise or retirement of the last one.

There was no other way for my mind to grok the immense differences in Bond's personality, not to mention looks, and the fact that he remained a fairly youthful ladies man during the stretch of four decades.

Having Judi Dench as "M" and this Bond on his first mission in the current year of 2006 makes it implicit that there are multiple, succeeding Bonds. Certain inconsistencies must be overlooked of course, but I find more implausibilities eliminated via this interpretation of the series.

ADigitalMan, the idea you had for there being numerous Bonds is very simular to the plot used in the Woody Allen version of Casino Royale. I guess it would be interesting to see that, but I really don't think it is that important to explain the 40 years of Bond thing. But it would be interesting.
