With added CGI effects to make it correlate with Lucas's "original vision."

I hope so. It's his ego vs. his desire to make money. But who knows? We'll see it again at some point. The thought that it would after Lucas is gone is so morbid to me. I hope that the DVD come out without involving the death of a human being. I'll just pray. It's all thats left for me to do. And hope that Lucas will give me what I want before the end of time. I just hope and pray. Maybe, just maybe.

Which brings us to the once again catch 22. Lucas wants to see if the OUT DVD's sell. If they don't, then there's no reason to include them in the rumored archival edition of the saga. If of course they do sell well, then he'll more than likely include an anamorphic and restored transfer within the archival edition box set, proving once AGAIN that a year can't go by where Luca$ needs to rape the fans wallets. I think I'm just going to got to San Francisco and blow up LFL. All empires fall eventually.

Sounds way too good to be true, but I wish. It'd make sense.

...Next year is the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars, there is no way that George Lucas does not plan to capitalize on this party. I fully expect every edition of all 6 movies to be re-released again on both HD-DVD and BlueRay DVD, maybe even as a deal with a new DVD player and/or TV package depending on the Retailers. It will be advertised yet again as "The Definitive Star Wars Collection for the technologically demanding conniseurs of Fandom all over the world." It will again be the re-re-re-release that will make all other sets and editions completely obsolete - garage sale junk. Commercials will say things like "if you haven't seen Star Wars on HD, you haven't seen Star Wars at all" and "the most complete Star Wars experience since auditorium theater seating" and "immerse yourself in the Star Wars universe like never before - you'll feel like you're flying the X-Wings down the trench - and your neighbors will feel like it too!" and "such a level of HD-THX clarity that you could literally sell tickets to your living room on MovieFone and be sold-out in a matter of minutes."
And it will sell. A lot. It will be marketed everywhere. On TV, on previews at movie theaters, in magazines, on billboards, on radio, cereal boxes, conventions, internet popups and banners, taco bell peel-off stickers, mcdonalds happy meals, pizza hutt pepsi and toys-r-us promotionals, superbowl commercials, oprah and barbra walters interviews, special pre-release parties in LA and NY, ETC ETC ETC. They are going to advertise the shit out of this stuff, and in 56 different languages all around the world, and they are going to sell like crazy. LIKE CRAZY. Because people buy into hype. Even for the crappiest of mud on the bottom of a shoe - if it has enough hype and marketing and advertising, people will go nuts.

Also probably releasing all 6 movies in 3d with plastic glasses at theaters. Who knows, maybe even some authentic plastic blow-up-dolls of Slave Leia. Knowing Lucas' sick sense of humor, it will actually be plastic blow-up-dolls of Jar Jar, though.

I don't know, though. I think he may have shot himself in the foot with the oversaturation of the Star Wars market. For the 20th, he had managed to nicely bring Star Wars back into the mainstream but not overdoing it, so that when he announced the special editions and theatrical re-releases, everybody jumped on the bandwagon. But for the 30th, we just finished years of the prequel trilogy as well as ad infinitum releases of the original trilogy. It's not exactly the best time for a "revivial."

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

With what has been claimed by LFL to be the last ever release of the OOT (it most likely isn't) behind us, a funeral appears to be more appropriate.

Marketing-wise it'll be a big deal, but I'm not sure about the general public. Wasn't it the 40th anniversary of Star Trek this year? Oh wait, apples and oranges...

while apples and oranges to a degree, star trek did reach the height of its popularity a couple years before its 30th....

And I hardly saw any hoopla this year for Star Trek's 40th. It went by with a whimper, while the 30th got some pretty heavy attention.

...but this is exactly my argument in a way: it is because of oversaturation that he had to rope OUT fans back in and get them to buy once this year, and buy the better product again next year; it was a win-win for him because he got OUT fans interested again and also turned a whole group of people who have never been exposed to it, on to it.

After this I really do see SW fading into the background for good...this is the last hoorah so to speak...

Yep, with stuff like this in the works for next year, there is not a doubt in my mind...

Coming Soon: The Making of Star Wars

October 25, 2006

With the release of each Star Wars film, there has been a companion book that explores the definitive story of the making of the movie... with one glaring exception that will soon be rectified. For the 30th anniversary of the original Star Wars, Del Rey Books is correcting that oversight with the release of The Making of Star Wars.

I just think that it's been sufficently milked. SW is a good enough film to stand the test of time, its just time to let the franchise rest. And that's assuming wer get a better OOT next year, which I hope but doubt.
