With the emphasis on ORIGINAL.

I'm not flaming you for liking the films in a certain order though. I would just make sure to get a feel for the general concensus of opinion around here first. Also, the whole thing is a little...fuzzy, if you don't mind me saying.

Well, as long as we're on the topic of posters, I know that a lot of people have expressed their affinity for the SE posters. And I agree that they're good-looking posters, but they, as well as the '04 covers, have the same thing going on: they represent the three movies visually as a trilogy. And, yeah, it sounds good when I put it that way, but it doesn't honor them as individual movies. For example, think of the original poster artwork. Each movie had the main cast in the look and situations they would be in that movie. Also, since they're right here, take a gander at the prequel posters. Each one has the main cast of the movie in an image that reflects the movie. Now look at the '97 and '04 artwork. For Star Wars, both have the main cast of Luke, Han, Leia, and Obi-Wan. All is good. But then you get to the sequels, and it seems like they feel compelled to use all the new characters and all the characters that weren't pictured previously. Neither ESB cover has any of the three main stars on it. Can you imagine a movie poster for any movie that emphasizes the cast but doesn't feature the stars of the movie? And while I don't mind the '04 covers as much as most of you here seem to, I have to admit that the ESB cover has a particularly weird assortment of characters: Vader, Lando, and Yoda? Granted they're all major characters, but if you hadn't seen these movies before, you'd think that the star of ESB was Vader, and that he has a whole new cast of adversaries to fight against. I just felt that's something I wanted to add to this discussion.

Thanks for the comments guys i dont mind critisism i think its good and bad but i do agree with Gaffer Tape what i think Lucas should have done with the SE posters is put the main characters who needs to be on there and spiff them up like the ones i posted just with the main characters of the movie for each poster.

Not to mention the fact that the ESB poster has a picture of ROTJ Palpy on it.

I for one enjoy the confused mish mash of things from one movie appearing on the poster for an entirely different movie. I feel it is a fantastic artistic representation of how unbelievably messed up the SE truely is. However, I am quite disappointed in the ROTJ poster, I feel it is truely lacking by not having an image of either Jar Jar or Hayden.

Also I think the PT posters are great. Come on, who didn't expect something great when they first saw that Phantom Menace trilogy? Of course we were all disappointed, but I for one still expected something great when I first saw the AotC poster, and I was again disappointed. When I first saw the ROTS poster it was hard for me to take it seriously with the goofy images of Palpatine and Padme. I didn't expect greatness from it at all, and yet I was still sorely disappointed.

One other detail on these posters I find perfect, is that though they are all by the same artist, the PT all say EPISODE in large writing, while the SE all say their names, notice how it is even called Star Wars instead of ANH. I think this signifies the lack of continuity between the two trilogies.

Lord_Of_The_Sith - why not have a go at making your own posters? It'd be good practice for you. And I think we'd all enjoy that more...

Remember, the Star Wars trilogy was only referred to by its episode names starting with the 2004 release. Before then, all releases and publicity had the regulas titles. i.e. Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi. It's only been since the saga became "complete" that Lucas started pushing the episode envelope. And still, most people don't call the trilogy by its episode titles.

That's my main complaint about the 9/12 releases. It says the episode number and name all over, but I just want the name. I might redesign that nifty cover art the 9/12 had to get rid of all refrences to episode number (or disc one.)

In my experience, people generally refer to the O.T. films by name and the P.T. films by number. This is especially true of Episode I, which I rarely hear called "The Phantom Menace" (though the acronym TPM is used a lot in typing).

Perhaps it's the fact that the title of that one has so precious little to do with the subject matter of the film. But I think it's mostly that the Episode Number appeared ten times larger than the subtitle on all the promotional materials such that it became the defacto title (and the concept of Star Wars Episode One was in itself very exciting).

Yeah, the whole giant "I" marketing campaign of that movie was huge. We didn't know the title until about six months before it was released.

At the line-ups for the Star Wars prequels, there were people of different "spoiler-levels" and these were denoted by indications on the line badges everyone had, purportedly so you wouldn't start any spoiler-talk around people who were spoiler-free.

Well, one person - who wasn't part of our group - became our spoiler-free God by not even knowing the title of the movie for Episode II when he walked into the theater on opening night to see it. In fact, he had the title printed on the BACK of a T-shirt he was wearing, but had successfully avoided all news about Star Wars for the preceding three years such that he did not even know the name of the movie.

For the third prequel, a few of us tried to replicate this feat. Most of us did not get beyond 24 hours after the title was announced. But one enterprising young man made it through to the last couple of weeks before the movie opened. He had even gone so far as to have someone block all mention of the title or its acronym "ROTS" from appearing on his computer. Alas, this was his undoing ... because at one point, the answer to a question which was obviously "CARROTS" appeared on his screen as "CAR****" - - instantly giving him the initials "ROTS" and, two seconds later, d'uh - the title "Revenge of the Sith."

Heheheh.

Heh, that sucks, but it's really funny. Couldn't he have specified "full word" rather than occurring within another word?

Making it that far is certainly a feat. I mean, I wasn't even trying to find out when I saw the episode title. I think I just walked into Toys R Us and there was ROTS promotional material coming at me from all angles.

I have a few questions, teacher!

Is this really off topic?

Why is it such a shitty image?

Who would seriously watch the bad films before the originals?

Here's two I made a long time ago. You can choose which Saga you like, but I like my steak and potatoes separate, if you know what I'm saying. Both are optimized for 1024x768.
