Hi there. First i suppose i`d better introduce myself. My name`s Desree. I`m a new member to these forums, but have been reading them or years. I started doing my own laserdisc transfers back in 2000 (You know, when Lucas said we wouldn`t see any Star Wars DVD`s until 2006), and found these boards to be an invaluable mine of info. Even though i finished those ages ago,i can`t stop reading these boards. They`re very addictive. Anyway, having become very dismayed with Lucas` attitude toward Star Wars, and the OOT in general (ye Gods the GOUT is awful), i decided the only way i was ever going to get the OOT in DVD quality was to do it myself. So i set about de-specialising and colour correcting the 2004 DVD`s. Easier said than done. Having experimented with chroma replacement (not easy), and colour level adjustment (just plain difficult and time consuming- LucasFilm did a proper botch job on these) i decided to us an avisynth filter called colourlike, and thought i`d share the results. Now, taking histograms from the GOUT doesn`t work, because contrary to how it might appear, the colour levels aren`t different enough (it doesn`t visibly look like it, but the blue levels of the THX edition aren`t so far off the SE). So, i captured the original Pal Pan And Scan laserdisc of Empire with which to take the histogram for it`s respective film, and lo and behold the results are stunning. First a comparison using the histogram on GOUT and SE:

And some shots of just the SE before and after:

There are, however, issues with this method. Because of the blue tint used, some blue detailing is "eaten" by the filter:

Notice the lighting of the echo base entrance and the core of chewies welder. Lukes lightsabre also suffers, but not so much that it`s noticable if you`re not deliberately looking for it. And only on the interior shots of the battle with Vader on Bespin. I suspect that might be more to do with Lowry`s algorythm than the histogram, since his lightsabre looks rubbish in the original SE on these frames as well. There`s also this:

For some reason the Lost in the Snow sequence suffers from a strange almost tourquoise glow that lessens or worsens depending on the scene. It begins with Luke leaving the ice cave, and ends at the cut to the speeders searching for Han and Luke. This`ll need to be manually corrected, but even this is proving difficult as i just can`t figure out how LucasFilm "colour corrected" it to mess it up so much. Certain scenes within this sequence (e.g Leia by the X-Wing, and the droids at the entrance), come out okay. Odd. But, for nearly all of the film this method has worked really well, and looks absolutely splendid. Yes, that`s the word. Splendid. I now just have to figure out what they`ve done to the lost in the snow sequence..
