Talk about filling in blanks.

I think Lucas is being a good sport about the Episode I backlash, but I don't think he agrees with it. Nor do I think he feels Episode IV turned out better. According to him, ANH was the furthest from what he wanted these movies to be.

Gomer, I don't know if you watched the AFI Tribute to George Lucas last year? What stuck out to me really shows Georges love for Episode IV, and here is what happened:

The whole show went through all his movies, and then they did a good hour segment on the OT movies, and then at one point, they had Carrie Fisher, Mark Hammill, and Harrison Ford on the stage with C3PO & R2 all in the exact position they were when the Original SW ended with the medal ceremony as the camera pans away.

Right as they showed that image, they showed the crowd clapping and what stuck out to me was that George Lucas was the first to stand up and continue clapping and you could see the smile on his face and also you could see he was a bit emotional to see those characters up there again for the first time in 25 years. The whole crowd, including Spielberg then rose to give that image a standing ovation, it actually sent chills down my spine.

Say what you and I want about the PT & ESB & ROTJ, but that moment there shows me that Lucas will always have an affection for the Original SW, and even though he says it could have been better now when he was making it, that movie is his baby, and it is one of the most beloved movies of all-time, and that showed me that Lucas knows that, but he just doesn't want it to come off interviews that he favors one over the other.
