Untitled Bruce Campbell Project (* unfinished project - a ton of info & ideas *) — Page 3

I have looked all over the place for the "Quick and the Dead" scene, but i've never been able to find it. The shot itself was only done to appease some actor who demanded that he have his own shot about how he beats up some guy(Bruce) for sleeping with his daughter. Bruce was visiting the set when Raimi just grabbed him and told him to do the shot. I don't think it was ever supposed to be released with anything.

OK guys, some good news - I located the Hail To The King trailer! It's 30 seconds long and it's a 5meg mpeg file - not great quality, but a fun little extra and I can't think I've seen a better quality version of it.
For the lucky 10:
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=12D4E31114651962
Let me know if the link dies and people who need the file don't get it in time.

The film cameos list currently:

Spider-Man 2 (2004) .... Snooty Usher
--The Ladykillers (2004) (uncredited) .... Humane Society Worker [ReverendBeastly]
Intolerable Cruelty (2003) (uncredited) .... Soap opera actor on TV
Drugs (2003) (V) .... Bruce
Spider-Man (2002) .... Ring Announcer
--The Majestic (2001) .... Roland the Intrepid Explorer [ReverendBeastly]
From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999) (V) .... Barry
Escape from L.A. (1996) .... Surgeon General of Beverly Hills
Menno's Mind (1996) .... Mick Dourif, Rebel Leader
Congo (1995) .... Charles Travis, R.B.'s Son
The Demolitionist (1995) (uncredited) .... Raffle Winner
The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) .... Smitty, Argus Reporter
Eddie Presley (1992) .... Asylum Attendant
Darkman (1990) .... Final Shemp
The Dead Next Door (1988) (voice)

That's 2 clips goign to be provided, anyone else help out? And what are people's thoughts on The Hudsucker Proxy?

I saw someone has been doing fantastic work cleaning up scenes from Army Of Darkness
http://www.originaltrilogy.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=5053&STARTPAGE=2
Is anyone in touch with Ridgeshark? Be great if he had time and was able to clean up the old clips - I'm sure he could work wonders cleaning up the dirt and damge on those guys, be great to have a copy of Within The Woods with cleaner picture and audio.

Hey Guys, OK dug out the old VCD sets I have - this is what is on them:

Attack Of The Helping Hand
The Sappy Sap
WNIC Radio TV Spot
XYZ Murders Trailer
Though SHalt Not Kill Trailer
Night Crew F/X Footage
Stykers War
PM Detroit spotling on Ren. Pics
Cleveland Smith
Torro, Torro, Torro
The Blind Waiter
Book Of The Dead Trailer
The Evil Dead Trailer
Within The Woods
(Note: I can't remember the name of the shot that was in such bad shape it wasn't encoded)

OK, now before anyone gets excited about these being capped form a 3rd gen dub they look and sound bad. The original negative these were taken from is in a horrible state and generally they are very dark and have low, poor sound. Asuming the DVD cap is got is there someone here who is good at doing a remaster of videos (playing with brightness/colour levels and remastering the audio tracks)?

OK, now since I got these I'm fairly certain the Evil Dead Trailer and Book Of The Dead Trailer cropped up on the special edition of The Evil Dead - this will have to be checked. I also noted that Styker's War was released on DVD in limited quanitites a few years back. Does anyone have this? I'm guessing what I have is actually a different cut or a workprint, imbd made it out like Bruce isn't in it much - but have a quick look now (been years since I watched it) he's in the start a lot (smoking a cigar no less) and this cut is only about 45 mins long and has a real make-shift credits at the end.

Another question - did XYZ Murders come out on DVD? I know there was a laserdisc, and is a trailer on it?

I also found my SVCD of Within The Woods and The Book Of The Dead Trailer. Now, as mentioned above it does not look great even though it's as low gen as you're going to get - the print Scott Spiegel has is in a bad way, but it's basically as good as you're going to get until it actually gets a real release (which may never happen). This Dub it was captured from was also sent to Anchor Bay for possible inclusion on a DVD they were putting out years ago (likly before Raimi decided to remaster from his print).

Annoyingly right now I can't find my Hail To The King trailer, it was on an old VCD and I found it a few months ago and stuck it on youtube so it is about here somewhere! I also have a cool short video that was a fan made vid for SKinny Puppy's Who's Laughing Now (which heavily samples Evil Dead 2) and is made up from clips of the film - with the samples. It was made back in the late 80s, early 90s on an analogue deck so it's pretty vintage. However it's currently MIA also, but will turn up...

The HTTK trailer is actually available for download right here ---------------> http://www.deadites.net/media.php

And that Stryker's War you have sounds like it could be the "pilot" shot in 1980, though Bruce is supposedly the lead in that, which conflicts with your report. Anyway, I'd love to see it. The TV news spot (I'm guessing that's what it is) on Renaissance sounds interesting too. Also, does your copy of The Sappy Sap have sound? Mine doesn't and I'm wondering if this is a common flaw with all bootlegged versions of it.

There is no Evil Dead 2 workprint in existence.

XYZ Murders is the film better known as Crimewave, right?

I've seen all the cinematic cutscenes from an Evil Dead game (the one with the midget - Regeneration I think) at Youtube.

How's this project going?

I Have a disc full of Sam Raimi Shorts... Many include Bruce. There is a copy of With in the Woods. It's not great, but it's there.

I know this thread has been dead for a while, but i thought I'd add in what I have just incase it interests anyone?

Most of the stuff I have has already been mentioned, Besides all the proper retail DVD's with their documentaries and what-have-you I have some other stuff of note, namely:

Sam Raimi Short Films
---------------------------
Cleveland Smith Bounty Hunter
Torro, Torro, Torro!
The Blind Waiter
Attack Of The Helping Hand
The Sappy Sap
Six Months To Live
Within The Woods
Clockwork
It's Murder

All VHS quality or worse

I also have the Evil Dead 2 Workprint DVD someone else mentioned, they're right in that its only about 45 mins long and contains the first & last parts of the film but they're more or less shot for shot as they are in the finished film except for 2 short shots; one extra shot of the workshed and a shot of the piano with what looks like steam pipes coming out (although the picture quality is ok the video has alot of damage making it break up frequently), and the music is all temp mixed, it also has a TCR. Also on this disc I got some shorts (Cleveland Smith Bounty Hunter / Torro, Torro, Torro! / The Blind Waiter / Attack Of The Helping Hand / Evil Dead Trailer / The Sappy Sap / BTS intruder (night crew) footage & Raimi Interview) All poor VHS quality as before.

As someone mentioned before, yes the 'Incredibly Strange Film Show' on the retail ED DVD has been edited to omit all footage from Raimi's shorts & a 'Crimewave/XYZ Murders' clip too. Guess they couldn't clear the rights for the crimewave stuff (them also slagging the film off in the show wouldn't help none with permission, I'm guessing) but it's strange that the Raimi shorts wheren't cleared for inclusion, especially coincidental since WTW, another short, was pulled from the same DVD release. I read somewhere that the music rights issue had been solved and there was a different issue preventing inclusion involving Raimi getting funny about releasing his early works which might explain both the missing WTW & the shorts in the 'Incredibly Strange Film Show' on that DVD. If you get the VHS to DVD copy thats going round on the 'Raimi shorts' DVD, thats the unedited version.

One thing I've been on the hunt for ages is Greg Nicotero's behind the scenes camcorder footage from 'Evil Dead 2'. I think there's around 6 unedited hours or so of it. I know there are some very short clips in the 'Gore The Merrier' feturette on the AB ED2 DVD. Currently I've only been able to track down about 72 mins on a BTS compilation DVD, that DVD also features camcorder footage from 'NOTLD90' & 'Two Evil Eyes', both also shot by Nicotero. If anyone else has any more of this footage, or a better quality version of 'Within The Woods', and wants to trade, PM me!

See No Evil, does your copy of The Sappy Sap have sound? All the other copies I've seen don't, which is pretty frustrating given it's Raimi's last proper Super 8 film, and one of his best.

I would kill to see It's Murder. Will look through my discs and see if there's anything that would be of interest to you

No, I have 2 different copies of 'The Sappy Sap' possibly from the same or different source tapes, and neither have sound (although there is hiss/pops) All the other shorts I have do have sound, although I don't know for a fact 'The Spappy Sap' had sound in the first place?

The only 2 shorts I'm still missing (that I know of) are 'Shemp Goes To The Moon' & 'The Happy Valley Kid'. PM me if you want to trade anything.

They made many many more shorts besides that (there's a full list in Bill Warren's book The Evil Dead Companion), but I'd never heard about bootlegs being available of Shemp Eats The Moon and Happy Valley Kid. The latter, in particular, is kind of legendary among Raimi/Campbell fans.

In HD no less!

EDIT: Wait, I got that wrong. On standard DVD, but with an HD remaster.
Author

So after the wonderfulness of the AOD Primitive Screwhead Edition, any interest in bringing this project back? Perhaps make it more ED-centric, renaming it the Evil Dead DVD Companion or something similar?

Also some news: two Super-8 shorts, Oedipus Rex and The Blind Waiter, have gotten official releases on the French DVD of Alien Apocalypse, and the quality is outstanding compared to the bootlegs. Very clear and nice. I've put them on my own Sam Raimi Short Films DVD, along with a crapload of stuff I traded with See No Evil, including It's Murder and Clockwork, as well as a better quality version of the uncut Incredibly Strange Film Show.

Anyone?

Really, no-one's interested? This really surprises me.
Author

I'm interested certainly. If someone was very serious about remastering Within The Woods and the early shorts I listed before I could likely track down the guy who got the tape from Scott Spiegel's assistant. The copies I have on VCD are taken from a dub of that tape.

I'd personally really love to see that DVD you put together, djsmokingjam. And Charlie, if you would let us know what work would have to go into getting those shorts from that tape, I'm sure some folks would step up. I would, at least.

Someone remastered Within The Woods on deadites.net many years ago. I think they used some MPEG source. It looked cleaner, but probably is more generated than the VCD I'm guessing.
