I didn't say most of the world loved Jar-Jar, I said there weren't really all that many that actually hated him.
Lucas conducted exit polls around the time of TPM and he found that Jar-Jar was actually a hit with the target audience (children) and a lot of women loved him as well. He says that most of the complaint came from 30 somethings on the Internet.

Sure, everyone "loved" (and I use that word in quotations) TPM and Jar-Jar when it came out. However, people started wising up. Go on any movie review site. Hell, check out the IMDB's entry on the film. All sorts of people slam Jar-Jar on there, regardless of whether they liked the movie or not. Then, Jar-Jar might have been funny, but now he's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum. He's a joke.
