$250 million? A quarter of a billion dollars? As the budget for a movie? This had better be good. Thoughts?

I wish someone would give me $250 million, period . Not bad for a guy who started his career with $250,000 horror movie, is it? I'm digging the new costume. Anyone know of anymore footage? Wasn't there some at ComicCon? Anyone post a link?

Looking forward to Spider-Man 3, but in a way I'm getting tired of the series already. I hate the fact that they seem to have postponed the resolution of the Harry Osborne storyline. They are dragging that out too long and need to resolve it. Also not sure how Venom will work out, but I have hope that it will be good.

I know how you feel. Bringing in Venom and Sandman just seems desperate, and hiring Topher "That 70s Show" Grace as Venom does not sit well with me.

SM2 was following a completely different story arc, which is why they abanded the Green Goblin one. I think that there is a lot of unexplored potential for the universe, but SM2 didn't fool around for the sake of introducing more characters. It told a compete story in its confines. I think that that the Osborune part felt sort of tacked on.

A big budget does not a movie make...

but in any case... either SM3 will be a really great movie, or it will be a really crappy piece of junk! The line is that thin...
There are alot of new characters and new storylines (for each character) that can only fit within a minimum of 2:40 hours to make it solid enough (with so much story and characters to introduce properly). In any case, I'm thinking it's going to be a sloppy sequel... but I hope I'll be surprised.

Doesn't the film have a 300 million dollar budget? That's a lot, and definately more than what's needed. What I'm most worried about in this next installment is that they're going to do another soap opera. In 2, Mary Jane and Spidey got together. Good. That should be the end of it. In 3, it looks like there will still be a shitload of romance drama taking over the action, which really, really sucks.

Also, Raimi went back for reshoots when test audeinces said the film was lacking in the action department. Uh oh....that's not a good sign.

I don't know, on the set apparently. They got into a huge shouting match and had to be pulled apart, and now Christopher Young is doing the music. John Dykstra also left and left VFX to his protege Scott Stockdyke (who worked on the previous two films), although I imagine he just wanted to work on another project for SPI.

Indeed. I'm quite fond of Elfman.

Elfman's a great composer. Too bad he can't return. And John Dykstra left to work on the Hot Wheels movie. Look it up on IMDb. It's half funny, half sad that he left this to do "Hot Wheels."

He left Spider-Man 3 for a movie about Hot Wheels? That's really disheartening.

Elfman left because he felt Raimi was too attached to the temp track on Spiderman 2. Nothing more. See the "Raindrops keep falling on my head" scene again and maybe you'll understand Elfman's concern. I think he has some points.

I used to really like Elfman, but lately I feel he's done the same damn score for every movie since Men in Black. Having a style is one thing, but, damn, branch out a little musically.

I'd imagine he was offered more money. Stockdyke is a talented fellow, so maybe he can rectify some the rather obvious mistakes that the previous installments made.

I see that the stories we have heard vastly differ . That's Hollywood for you. Well, who knows? Maybe Young and Stockdyke will make things even better on this release.

P.S. How did Young bet both Charlotte's Web and Hellraiser I and II on his resume? Talk about wildly different styles!

Bringing in Venom and Sandman just seems desperate, and hiring Topher "That 70s Show" Grace as Venom does not sit well with me.

Sandman, yes. Venom, however, come attached to the alien costume, which everyone is of course a key plot point in this installment.

Doesn't the film have a 300 million dollar budget?

I am a college student who works as a cashier. I can't imagine that amount of money existing.

In 3, it looks like there will still be a shitload of romance drama taking over the action, which really, really sucks.

As long as the romance and drama is good, that won't be a problem. Now, if the romance and drama suck, then there will be av very, very big problem.

Also, Raimi went back for reshoots when test audeinces said the film was lacking in the action department. Uh oh....that's not a good sign.

Indeed it is not.

I really don't like how this movie's shaping up. It'll probably have its moments, but I'm not expecting anything too spectacular. The last two weren't that impressive aside from some good comedy parts and willem Dafoe and whoever played doc ock being greater than the material they were given to work with. I expect the same here. Raimi's spidey also hasn't yet captured very well that witty personality he displays in the comics and cartoons. That's been one of my main gripes so far and I doubt it'll really change, but who knows... maybe that alien will make peter more like the comic book spidey.

Judging by the trailer, it looks like he is more serious. Yeah, Spidey's sarcasm is definately lacking in the films. But I guess only pre-movie Spiderman fans will realize this.

Yeah, a little more sarcasm from Spider-Man would be nice. They tend to overplay the woe-is-me thing.

No doubts there, though I do question the wisdom of bringing in Gwen Stacy into the new movie after he apparently got together with MJ in SM2.
