POLL: Which version of the OT do you own?

Author

I was just wondering what version of the OT people actually have at home... this is based on the best legal version you own.

I have death wishes on Lucas and Macullum.

I actually own the OT three times over: Once via the "Faces" VHS (fullscreen), and twice more through the 2006 "Limited Edition" DVDs.

P&S Faces Trilogy and LBX SE Trilogy (1997). Both VHS.

I own the Laserdisc's Sets and now the DVD Sets as well made by LFL. I wish I had gotten the CLD Verson's of the films when that format was out.

I voted for the OOT on VHS. I own the 1991 and 1995 PAL widescreen editions. I also own the PAL widescreen '97 SEs in the silver boxed set.

Um, the SE is not the OOT.

I have four official sets: VHS (PAL), LD (NTSC), '06 DVD (PAL & NTSC).

At least it's only a minor error, I think I made the options quite well overall though - it should begin to show just how forum members are enjoying SW at home!

JamesEightBitStar, I never thought of it like that, but you're right - I own the OT twice over on DVD because it includes two versions of the film - plus I own the 1995 VHS which means I own the OT 3 times... kind of. Although, my VHS tapes (aside from being in great condition) are WIDESCREEN, not foolscan... I mean not pan&scan .I have four official sets: VHS (PAL), LD (NTSC), '06 DVD (PAL & NTSC).
Yes, but which are you most happy with? The LD... the DVD... the VHS or the bootleg copy? The poll for how many copies of each film you have, however, belongs in another thread... this one is more about the copy you have which you are most happy with! PS: did you forget you have those two special edition sets too THX ?

I own 5 sets of OOT VHS tapes all 3 1983/4 Video Rental Tapes, 87 Star Wars tape, 89 F/S 91 W/S set, 95 W/S set and the 95 Executor Box set, for the SE I own the 97 SE VHS and the DVDs, I dont own the 06 DVDs but have the OOT on fan preservation DVDs.

I own the pan and scan "Faces" VHS, and the 06' DVDs. I prefer the Empire and Jedi DVDs to their video counterparts, but for now I'm sticking with my VHS copy of Star Wars. The ghosting and aliasing on the DVD is horrendous. It's no better on the VHS, but at least it's less noticeable.

Although, it's pretty sad that I have to choose between "shit #1" and "shit #2" at all when Lucasfilm could have simply done a little fixer-upper on the OT and everyone would have been happy.

i have the tv recordings on VHS, i have the 1995 VHS set twice (french dubbed and english), the 1995 LD set (aka the Faces edition), and if this is the only time we'll have the OOT on dvd maybe the GOUT.

Oops, I goofed on my poll response.

My recent 9/12 OOT DVD of Star Wars is my best, because it has the original crawl and looks just as good or better than my bootleg.

But I didn't buy the others, so my best of Empire and Jedi are the laserdiscs, best quality being the ones that have freaking 4 discs per movie, gak. I don't think I've even watched those ... someone gave them to me.

I also have the "regular" laserdiscs of all three OOT films, plus an earlier laserdisc release of Star Wars. About four versions of VHS Star Wars, and VHS of Empire and Jedi, plus a box-set of letterbox VHS versions of all three films. Then I have the SE DVDs from 2004 and the SE DVD of Star Wars that I was forced to buy with the Sept. 12 release.

Heheh, to boot, I have a VHS and DVD of Phantom Menace and a DVD of Attack of the Clones ... but NO versions of Return of the Sith. Heehee.

Do I own enough Star Wars on home video anyway???

Voted for OOT-DVD. I assume that means the 9/12 release? If so, that's all I have of the OT now. I have no other versions. Well, I guess I have the 2004 versions that came with it, but there in a box in a hard to reach place. The 9/12 releaes are the best. Best picture quality, original crawl on SW, cool animated menus, and 50 chapter stops. Hard to beat, even in non-anamorphic.

1982 SW VHS(Bought for the 35mm stereo mix)
1987 SW VHS signed by Dave Prowse
1992 special letterbox edition(I like to think of this as a poor man's DC set. It came out one year before the DC discs and it was basically a lite version boasting an abridged version of "George Lucas: The Creative Impulse, the 3 movies in letterbox VHS, and "From Star Wars to Jedi")
1995 P&S Faces Set(My first OOT set I bought. Seller on Amazon claimed it was a sealed version of the 1992 set and the idiots on Amazon wouldn't give me a refund)
1997 SE(Bought for completion purposes)
2004 Trilogy(The first set I bought. I just saw RotS in theaters and wanted to check out the originals not realizing what Lucas did to them...)
2006 DVD's

No bootlegs.

I have a lot of copies.

Official VHS from 95.
widescreen VHS from sci-fi channel airing in 93 or thereabouts
1992 LDs
2004 DVDs
2006 DVDs

I used to have 80s versions of the VHS, but since the 95 release there was no reason to keep them. Now I'll never get rid of the others...until Lucas takes the OOT seriously I will hold on to it all. In fact even if he does I won't pitch them. He's been a putz for the past decade, and no amount of a patch job will ever earn back my trust. He blew it bigtime.

I don't know which ones exactly I own, but I know I have at least 3 copies of the OOT on VHS in Widescreen and P&S and I have the DC Laserdisc.

Let me guess MagnoliaFan, amazon.com last month sent you a letter congratulating you on being the first customer to pre-order the 30th anniversary box set, and last week you received a letter confirming this from Lucas himself? Out of all your collection, which is the best?

Heh, I'm with Darth Evil, I'm way into SW but I don't have that many! lol

I have Star Wars and Jedi on the '92 vhs release, and Empire on the '95 Faces vhs. (This because I didn't like Empire when I was little, and only warmed up to it later. How silly of me.) I also have the '97 SE vhs boxset, and the '04 dvd boxset (I wish now I had never bought it), and the '06 GOUT. I will get rid of the '04 in some way, either selling or as a gift, but keep the EoD disc.

For bootlegs I have the TR47, the classic editions, and the Editdroids. Keeping them because of the TR47's pcm audio, the classics' anamorphic detail but being the original cut (mostly), and the Editdroid music-only track. Waiting for the various X0 projects, as they will supercede the GOUT most likely. The GOUT is currently the best version I have.

ETA: This is my '77th post. Rock on!
