Idea: an X 3 edit... — Page 2

I'd seriously hold out until next year when the 2-Disc edition comes out. I read that in a Ratner interview after I bought the damn thing and it royally pissed me off. I tried returning it at Blockbuster but of course it was opened so in the end I just traded it. That's the most expensive movie rental I ever paid for. I went to Fox's website to see if I could contact them an lodge a complaint, but they have no links. No surprise there.

If you want to avoid Fox's messed up "we'll make 'em double dip next year" release, then just grab the 2-disc from another country via the net. I'm picking up my X-Men 3 2-Disc fairly soon.

I wouldn't just purchase the 2 disc edition overseas. Ratner stated in an interview that it was unfair that the U.S. had to wait for the 2 disc release so the eventual U.S. edition will have some exclusive content. I don't have the source for the interview. I might have only read this quote on a message board, so it might only be a hopeful rumor.

Speaking of two disc sets (and of course I read about a 2 disc set of X 3 after I pick up the X-Men trilogy box set at Costco *sigh*), does anyone know what the differences are, if any, between the original release of X-Men, X-Men 1.5, and the copy of X-Men that comes in the box set I picked up? It looks like the one in the Costco set is the same as the original release, which is just a little annoying since I think X-Men 1.5 had more featurettes.

So is there actually a 2 disc set of X-Men 2 out as well? This crap gets more and more annoying.

I believe the version of X-Men in the set is the original version (which included deleted scenes, the "Mutant Watch" tv special, Bryan Singer on the Charlie Rose show, galleries, animatics, and some other stuff). X-Men 1.5 is a two disc set which features DTS sound, branching behind the scenes vignettes & deleted scenes during the movie, commentary, a few hours worth of documentaries, and other goodies.

And yes, X2 was originally released as a 2-Disc Special Edition. That was before Fox started playing their little games. It might still be available, but I usually just see the single disc re-release floating around these days (which I assume is just disc one of that set).

A word of wisdom for anyone that cares about special features: if the initial release of a blockbuster movie isn't a 2-disc set or isn't loaded to the gills with extras, you can bet there's a special edition coming out in a few months. These days, a commentary and deleted scenes is considered a bit light.

Argh!!! At first I figured the collectors edition was the 2 disc set. Then I noticed that it kept only saying it had one disc and an "exclusive" comic. Then I figured that I didn't want the comic, but I didn't have X 2. So I returned the collectors edition and picked up the trilogy. I already have X 1, but I can just as easily sell my extra copies. I would have thought that with 21 deleted scenes and 3 alternate endings that they wouldn't need to release a 2 disc set. In my mind, since I heard about the 21 deleted scenes, if they were going to "double dip" later, they'd only release half of the deleted scenes and maybe 1 alternate ending, leaving the rest for the 2 disc set. It's all very annoying and just gives my wife more ammo for her "see, I told you to wait" line.

Hopefully I can get rid of my 2 extra copies of X 1 fairly easily.

If anyone wants to do an isolated score for this edit, I have the soundtrack. I think I can put it on a CD-R (that is if my burning program doesn't crap out on me again) and send it out if anyone wants to use it. I don't know if there are any unreleased cues from the film, but I will look around and see what I find.

X3 was pretty lousy... no offence to anyone but I think X1 and X2 were alot better.. it had more story, and it was focused on the characters alot more.

and by the way... why couldn't Cyclops just be the main character? Since he didn't do alot in X1 and X2 it would be
such a more creative decision to have him be the guy who at the end gets Jean back or something... It's just sooo
cliche that it becomes the supposed money-making Wolverine/Hugh Jackman... the film is very short and is on my list
of the all-time modern bad sequels/prequels/midquels/spin-offs that were made by money-hungry corporations that
want your founding fathers... up there with Scorpion King, and AVP...

not that it was bad or anything, but it's just one of those average cash-cow movies... like Transporter 2, Electra, and Fantastic
Four.

but I like those deleted scenes and had this EXACT same idea to do a fan-edit of it... and imagine my startled face when
I saw that there's already talk of doing a fan-edit.

... when my stupid late computer comes from the mail....

I will do it as well... I'll try to incorporate all kinds of elements into it... from this board and other sources...

especially add John Ottman's great theme for X2...
...as good as John Powell was for "Ice Age 2" wich I like the music from, X3's music was like "Huh? There was music in the movie?"
it had those kinds of average unmemorizable themes...

A little off topic, but believe it or not, my on/off project for a while has been the first X-Men movie. I tried to remove clunky lines, stupid moments, and bad special effects shots while also adding some of the deleted scenes into the film. But then it always ends up with me deleting all the files from my HD because I figure it's not worth the effort.

X3's a flawed movie. It's a frustrating experience knowing the potential it had. The first film, like most of first entries in the comic book movie genre seems a little clunky at times. It's a bit dull, the fight scenes are badly choreographed, and it's low on action, but it's a pretty good movie. X2, I felt, blew it away. So I was really disappointed when they decided to go this route with X3. Singer abandoned it, or at least was unavailable for the date Fox wanted so we got stuck with a bland director, a standard by-the-numbers script, and ultimately a disappointing movie. I think i'll have to watch the movie again before I can really comment on the changes that should be made, but I really think it mostly lies with the script, and the portrayal of the characters. The film needed a good rewrite and God knows Fox wouldn't allow that if it meant delaying the shoot a bit. I think Singer was the main driving force behind the first two films. Fox didn't understand the property, heck it even seems like they loathed it. But they knew they could make money off of it and that's what they did. It's a shame, really.

Seeing all the potential that was missed, I actually wouldn't mind seeing a reboot a few years or decades down the line.

Just reviewing these X-Men posts. Apologies for being 15 years behind the curve. I think X1-3, the Wolverine, and DoFP make a great arc. I would love to an improved version.

For Cyclops, if it’s possible to show shots of Essex labs in a second post credits scene with a cryo tubes marked Scott Summers and/or Jean Grey, I think that would work for me. It teases their resurrection and leads to the lore for Cable.
