Is the Blu-ray vs HD DVD thing still going on?

I'm still scared off by this to invest in either format. I'm sure you've seen it compared to the Beta vs VHS days.

Is one pulling ahead of the other?

On diggnation they talked about "PS3 Price Going To Destroy Sony." Mgiht check it out for the hell of it: http://revision3.com/diggnation/2006-09-07

Of course the OOT will be remastered, eventually.

That's what I want to hear .

It won't happen for next year though.

That's not what I want to hear . I'd make a lot of sense. Still, you're probably right .

Just invest in mutual funds or a 401(k). Even if you do want to pick your stocks, investing in a member of the Blu-ray Alliance or the DVD Forum based solely on which optical disc format they back is rather short-sighted IMHO.

I think that with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, we need to just wait and see. Heck, it may become the new dominant format. Or it may crash. We'll find out, won't we?

The battle between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will continue until someone gets a reasonably priced player to market that can play both. Once that happens, the battle is over because it won't matter what format the movie is in. That's what happened with DVD+/-R and it'll happen again with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. This is not Beta vs VHS all over again. The tapes weren't even the same size and they needed different read heads. This is DVD+/-R all over again and all they have to do is put another laser into the players. People were burned once (VHS vs Beta), they won't be burned again.
