Star Wars HD coming in November! All SIX movies!

Hey guys,

I did not see a post here so I thought I would announce it.

All six Star Wars movies will be aired in HD on Cinemax this November.

Since DirecTV does not carry Cinemax HD, I will miss them UNLESS someone here can capture them! Please!!!!

Information:

The 14 hour (13h,45m) Marathon starts on Saturday, Nov11, with an "all-day" showing of all 6 episodes I-VI back to back, starting at Midnight. Then it starts over again at 1:50pm on Saturday, then again (and again) on Sunday. 4 times in a row! Saturday through Sunday, until Monday morning at around 7:30am.

- 12:00am, Nov11
- 1:50pm, Nov11
- 3:40am, Nov12
- 5:40pm, Nov12

Then they're breaking it into two segments, on 2 consecutive days:

I-III back to back: 5:15pm, Nov16

IV-VI back to back: 5:45pm, Nov17

Then we finally get the "order restored" version, with IV-VI, then I-III airing daily at noon, from Nov20-25.

Lastly, another daily run of I-VI in the 10pm time-slot, from Nov26-Dec01.

The only thing that really surprised me was that they had been saying that "Sith" was going to run first (it's been airing on HBO, but not at all on MAX yet), and then "order will be restored". But it looks like it's not going to play out that way. And why not focus on more airings with "order restored"? Luckily, with 4 Marathons in a row, you can jump in after the first 3 if you like. In any event, definitely something to look forward to.

The only remaining question will be, which eps will be OAR? Fingers crossed on that one.

Which could be a sign of things to come, but the SEs are almost certainly what is going to air.

Holy C...

Please someone capture the 2004 edition of the original trilogy. This should be better source material for retouching than the current DVD:s because of the resolution. I just hope the bitrate is up to par.

Personally, I don't have HD, but I would much like a 16:9 version of Star Wars on DVD later..
Edit: I mean a version with the O-OT storyline of course, with none of the CGI crap.

They will all be replayed on HBO HD begining late November and all December. So, people with DirecTV need not worry! They will be OAR.

Ah yes, this is what I've been hoping and waiting for! Thanks for the info, DarkGruson! As has been pointed out, this will most likely be the 2004 editions, but if it's good quality HD it will be high enough resolution and bitrate to be worth preserving for a lifetime. At least for me, or at least until we get something even better.

Let's just hope they won't be airing SD versions only for the sake of showing the Star Wars saga.

The sad thing is I have no interest anymore, and that is where I have split from the current SW fanbase that Lucas caters to. Just think about the 6 movies, I don't love any of them!! I just love the O-OT versions, not Greedo shooting first, not Hayden in ROTJ, and not some dumb song in Jabbas palace that should be on MTV. As for the PT movies, they are just another set of movies that came out from 99-05 that I will probably forget about in years to come, only to reminded that they are part of the saga now, so they will never die.

If this were 10 years ago and the O-OT, or the OT then was playing on Cinemax on HD, I would be escatic and be jotting down those dates just like I did whenever they came on SciFi and TBS every years around Christmas even though I had them on VHS. But Lucas has pretty much created the O-OT fanbase, and with the non-anamorphic release has pretty much said to anyone who prefers those version, "See ya." I say to SW on CinemaxHD, "See ya."

I don't have Cinemax, but I'll just watch my DVD's while they are marathoning them, so I can feel a million other fans through the force as I watch.

I see it more like him saying "put your money where your mouth is." And the sales figures show that people have do so. Now we wait.

I agree with you for the most part. I'm somewhat excited about this though, because the fan community will now get their hands on most of the material needed to recreate the original films in HD. The OOT can't be recreated from this material of course, but with proper editing something reasonably close to it can be achieved. Maybe that last bit sounds a bit odd, it's just that I'm trying to be positive about the prospect of the fans finally getting hold of the OT films in HD, even though it's only the 2004 SE.

As for the PT, I've already forgotten much about them already. I doubt I'll ever watch them in their entirety again, at least not for a very, very long time.

Im sure Sky Movies will be doing this in the UK, they have been showing the movies every Saturday and Sunday for the last six weeks, there is no way though, if they are gonna do this on a Saturday, that I am gonna stay in just for this, though if they do it on the Sunday I will probably catch one or two of the movies depending whats on elsewhere, but I am not gonna waste a whole day on it..

I do agree with you about that statement, but I just look at this marathon as the future of SW, and either you are going to jump on the train or not, and that train contains the saga now: PT + OT/SE, and doesn't contain the O-OT. Now I do believe somewhere down the road, Lucas will release the O-OT fully restored, cause www.thedigitalbits.com showed that the DVD's ranked 5,6,7 on their first week of sales, and for a shoddy release that supposedly no one cares out, to be in the top 10 is pretty good, and shows me somebody wants them other than people who post on the internet.

I am just saying to everyone who is a fan of SW, this Cinemax marathon is what SW will be always be: The 6 movies somehow tied together as the saga, and Lucas will not relinquish any movie from its individual greatness cause he knows the PT movies can't stand up when looked upon that way, and I for one will not jump on that train sadly, cause I could care less about those 6 movies now. I have come to the conclusion that when the O-OT is released again fully remastered it will again have some tag line of bonus material, or something to denegrate it so it is not the 'official versions' just so Lucas doesn't have to admit that somebody wants it.

If you enjoy the PT & SE, and still love the O-OT, I believe you can carry on the SW wagon, but if you just love the O-OT and everything else is OK or bad, then just get used to being second class citizens when something happens in SW-ville, cause the O-OT will never get the spotlight ever again. And that is why my sig is what it is, I have accepted I am not part of the fanbase Lucas is targeting, so I will take a pass on this, when 10 years ago I would be on cloud nine. Oh well, let Lucas have his niche fanbase and see how loyal they are.

I have Cinemax HD and no HD equipment to enjoy it on. Ain't that a pisser? If only the deleted scenes from the PT were also being shown in HD, you bet your ass I'd be capturing it ... and doing my thing to them in HD.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

Can someone PLEASE capture these as .TS files?

That would be ideal....

Um, I dunno about Cinemax (cause I don't have it), but when these are shown on HBO, they will be letterbox-cropped. I have never seen a 2.35:1 film shown on HBO in its theatrical ratio.
Author

While most movies are cropped down to 1.85:1, HBO does show some movies in their original 2.35:1 ratio.

Ep3 was shown in OAR, 2.35:1.

The only one I'd be interested in seeing is TPM the other prequels are dire especially AOTC. And as for the
OT SE, forget it!

So, ignoring all the pointless debate/arguing that is going on here....has someone volunteered to capture this yet?

Anyone know if the jagoffs at DirecTV will have an HD cinemax anytime soon? I upgraded to HD this year and I feel like a dropped a thousand bucks just to see Knight Rider in HD and everything else squished.

Neat. When you can actually see everything in good detail, the original Star Wars episodes are so gritty.
