Creating covers for thinpaks... How?

Due to the fact that I have no more space for DVDs I have decided to replace all my DVD cases and covers with thinpaks. I've searched online in the hope that I could just download Hi-Res custom covers for the thinpak cases, but the sites I found required payment before you can download anything. So, I was wondering would it be at all possible to:
1). Scan in the covers that I already have and edit the size of the spine? Or
2). Run the scanned covers through a program like CoverXP and resize the regular cover to fit the thinpak, again only shrinking the spine and leaving the back & front detail intact?

Are either of these possible? I hope I'm making sense with all this.

Thanks in advance (I just hope someone knows what I'm on about and can help me).

CoverXP won't resize the spine. This is something you will have to do manually in Photoshop or MacPaint or your favorite graphics program. Just make a template for the new spine size based on a scan of a Thinpak cover and modify the existing spine accordingly.

Still, might be cheaper to buy a new shelf than to reprint all them covers.

Where can I get a template for a thinpak cover? I've had no luck so far

Would you mind talking me me through this, as I'm not too clued up on Photoshop.

Ask and ye shall receive. Click here to get a .zip file with eleven DVD-box cover and insert templates, some of which are for ThinPaks. The link is good for a week or 100 downloads.

you could also try UnderCoverXP,this will do all sizes,and you wont have to resize,the program does it for you,I have made Slim cases with this,and it works good.

Thanks for the Undercover XP tip, but it stretches & disorts the spine quite considerably.

Anyhow I joined a coversite and have downloaded a bunch of thinpak covers, but it looks like I'll have to edit the others I can't find from regular scans.

Um....wouldn't it be easier AND cheaper to just buy a new shelf? That's a shitload of stuff to do right there. You could also sell some of the DVD's you don't watch on eBay, and get some quick cash, or better yet, take a big CD case, and put all your DVD's in there, then putting the cases in large boxes and those boxes in a storage area, such as your basement. Those CD cases cost little compared to a new shelf or the shear amount of ink you'd need to print all these new covers and purchase all the slim packs.

I have no more shelf space. I currently have one alcove filled from top to bottom with ten, four foot shelves. So buying more really isn't an option unfortunately. I have stripped out the discs I don't want, but now that itself is rather difficult too as I can't think of anymore that I don't want. I considered also putting the discs in one big case, but I'm a geek and like them on show. Ink really doesn't cost much. I have the Canon IP4000 and while it takes six cartridges I can get those for really cheap.. Paper is also cheap too. Slimline cases I can get 200 for £17.99 inc. delivery, with further discounts if I need a larger size.

Trust me, I've weighed up each thing you've pointed out, and slimlines for me are the way to go. Although, the huge DVD case is still rather appealing.

Dude, it doesn't cost that much to buy credits at a pay site really. $30 @ Replace the Case will give you unlimited downloads for a whole year. You can download high quality customs and convert them to thinpak or ask the artist if they might do it for you. Some are pretty friendly and accomidating. For a limited time @ R1DB $28 will get you 400 credits. There's a heck of a lot of thinpaks and scans there to keep you occupied. Just think of it as a conversion expence.

I have already paid up for Generetic. So I got the bulk of the thinpaks I need from there, but thanks for the info.
