Ok. The OUT Covers for the UK- WHY!?

Author

OK. I know its not a biggy but this stuff pisses me off.
I-III have the UK rating of PG/12 and all sit next to each other nicely. As do the 2004 DVDs but in silver (so they dont really fit) So why do the OUT covers have both U and G for Ireland! Pushing the IV-VI upwards and throwing them out!

Didnt they think about this! I know its not as bad as the Canada thing for RotS but come on!

I also have afit when ever I see Blade I-III with differnt coloured spines, LotR has logos in differnt orders- IF ITS MEANT TO BE A SET- MAKE IT MATCH!

They did the same thing again as the RotS covers here in Canada with Star Wars twice and the English and French titles underneath. Complete ugliness but it's a bilingual law so custom covers all the way.

I've done it before on my James Bond set. The last film (Die Another Day) had a completely different spine than the other 19 - it was a late addition to the set just before they shipped. So, I just scanned one of the others and added a picture of Brosnan in the appropriate spot to match the other covers (all the spines have a small picture of whoever played 007 in that particular film), then cut-and-pasted the title in from a second scan so that it lined up with the others. Printed it to scale and it's indistinguishable as a one-of-a-kind.

My Star Wars DVD has a custom cover sleeve also. With desktop publishing software what it is these days, anything is possible. I use Photoshop professionally so my only limits are being able to find certain artwork on the internet. Took me a while to find a scan of the poster I used on the back of my cover.

Yeah, that annoyed me too - until I found out that the Die Another Day cover is reversible, and on the back is a cover that lines up nicely with all the others (at least in PAL-land).

Yeah, I remember reading about that for later editions of the set, but no such luck for me.

Hilarious....and so true. I keep my tin with the OOT on my box set shelf, where my most treasured box sets and rare DVD's are kept. (Think the LOTR sets, BTTF trilogy, etc.) The prequels are sorted in the "S" section of my regular DVD library.

I feel for you canadians, I thought the french lobby in your country had been silenced after the referendum wether to split from the commonwealth or not a few years ago.

Don't worry, there's a workaround for the French-Canadian language enforcers. Order from amazon.com instead of amazon.ca. It's usually cheaper anyway. Canada gets gouged on electronics.

The problem is that they tend to do a shitty job of covers, here in the UK, and the consumer never complains, so nothing gets done.

On the US versions of LOtR ALL the spines match up perfectly. Whereas EiV's release over here totally messed it up.

As for the BBFC and Irish Film Censor's Board logo on the spine: You'll be even more annoyed to hear that they're NOT legally required on DVD spines (just the front and back)! It's annoying, isn't it? Trust me, I feel your pain!

That reminds me. How did the original star wars (or ANH) get a U certificate cuz the chared bodys of Owen Larrs and aunt Berue and the severed arm from the cantina should have made this a Perental Guidence shurely. Well, it scared me as a child!

Yeah Ell, it pees me about the spines not matching on not only this but most other sequels as well. Maybe a marketing thing for a complete set that may or may not get released in the future. I mainly use custom covers for this reason.

the ratings system changed midway between ep2 and 3 and we now get stuck with this crap all over our cases:

Yeah, if that's not a removable sticker someone at the ratings board is being mean on purpose!
