Criterion Collection: Adventures of Baron Munchausen & The Fisher King (Released) — Page 2

I'm glad that I stumbled upon this thread. I was googling for a criterion munchausen disc, and this popped up. Is someone going to do a good transfer of this? If not I may have to finally take the leap and get an LD player and capture card. Any recommendations on capture devices/filters/etc?

All the Fisher King stuff is transferred and in my possession. Dave hasn't done Munchausen yet. Hmm.

I haven't sent Munchausen to him yet because I am being way too lazy in finding proper packing material for the laserdisc set. I will be sending it very soon, though.

I really want Baron Munchausen on DVD! I will complete the Gilliam post-Python trilogy, featuringseveral Pythons like Michael Palin, John Cleese and Eric Idle.

Can't someone make the transfer from laserdisk to DVD? I'm sure there are people with that kind of equipment out there...

I'd love to see The Fisher King, with the extras. It's quite an overlooked flick. It's sad it hasn't gotten a proper DVD release (I think the one available is just barebones).
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

I have all the Fisher King material in my possession, but I don't think Dave West ever transferred the Munchausen stuff!

What is the status on this?

I think it bears repeating that Adventures of Baron Munchausen is available on DVD. RevBeastly is using this thread to secure a proper transfer of the LD so as to preserve the extras that were absent on the official DVD.

Status is I'm a lazy bastard and never sent Dave my Munch laserdisc set. I'll actually be home this weekend, I should grab my discs.

Me too! I really want an exhaustive (or something close to it) DVD for Baron Munchausen, and for Fisher King too.

Is there any chance that these preservations will actually come to fruition?

Anyone wants the Fisher King bonus material, you can get it from me - tygerbug at yahoo.com.

I'm more interested in the Munchausen stuff though! Get on this Alex.

From what I was able to find on the internet, the Munchausen laserdisk has the following:

A full-length running commentary on an alternate audio track (use the remote to switch back and forth between it and the main audio track as desired) with Terry Gilliam talking about the movie.

Another full-length running commentary on another alternate audio track with the producer, Gilliam's nemesis, talking about the movie.

A short comment by Eric Idle.

Deleted scenes, including one where a soldier explains why they can't engage in warfare on Wednesdays.

Storyboards for canceled scenes, including a parody of the dining scene in Tom Jones.

Outtakes of Robin Williams as the Moon King.

History of the Baron Munchausen legend.

Excerpts from earlier Baron Munchausen films, including one financed by the Nazis during the Third Reich.

Theatrical trailer.

Lots more.

If anyone will be able to transfer those, it will be so great. And I myself would be ETERNALLY grateful.

Are these the extras we're talking about, though?

Could you please describe all deleted scenes of the Baron Munchausen?

I'm confused. Is this the real deal or a fan release?

Don't really like the covers, Munchausen looks weird.

But will be very excited to FINALLY have a DVD transfer of the Munchausen material, dammit.

For better or worse, I was trying to do something different. The Munchausen art comes from the short-run comic book series that tied in with the movie. The outline of the doll is just my crappy pen tool attempt, using a still frame as a reference.

If I get some extra time this week, I might try to create some alternate sleeves that use the more traditional artwork that went with the respective media blitzes, or maybe something that mimics the original Criterion artwork more closely.

The menus will probably be more in the vein of what you see above though.

Criterion Projects done: She's Gotta Have It, The Princess Bride, The Fisher King

In Progress Criterions: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (99% done), Taxi Driver (90% done), Citizen Kane (50% done), Othello (99.99% done)

Possibly coming next: Ghostbusters, The Magnificent Ambersons (the theatrical cut, a reconstruction according to Prof. Carringer's script analysis, and the colorized version)

I think you did a good job with it, what I like most is how it jives with Criterion's currect design style. If I may comment, the only thing I would change is for the fisher king font, I would use the logo for it as seen on the poster.

eh. more slowly than I anticipated. I didn't realize there was so much text on The Fisher King discs. I'm typing each frame out de novo, so it's going to take some time. There are something like 250 individual frames to copy over.

I haven't even started the Muncahusen discs yet, although all of the captures are done.
