OK, just thought I'd mention it again: have you considered looking at other Portman films for alternate (or even the same, only delivered better) lines of dialogue?
I know, I know...kind of late in the "game". But, man, if you could find better deliveries for at least some of her lines...wouldn't that be worth it?

I was wondering if you would be slowing down how fast the spaceships went by, because in the PT they just wiz by, but in the OT they go fast but not that fast.
Yeah, I *wish*! They animated the heck out of not only the ships but the camera movement!...just like Yoda...ticked me off...

I actually didn't do a lot of that. Mainly because I don't have very good slow-motion software and I can't create new frames in-between to make it smooth enough and professional enough.

Well, even if you did have good software, there would be too much motion blur on the ships...it would look way off...yeah, models still rock!

Anyone have any suggestions on alternate Portman dialogue? I'm not really a fan, and haven't seen any of her other movies. Is she any better?

Just wanted to thank all the folks working behind the scenes here. Thanks to all of your help, this movie's coming together quicker and quicker. If all goes to plan, I expect to have the first feature-length test cut by mid-October. And the film completed in November.

--------------

Little problem, though- when doing some tests, I just discovered that I don't have the capability to convert PCM audio into Dolby Digital 2.0. Is there any freeware that could enable me to do this? I've checked and haven't found any yet. PM's are welcome

Thanks so much,

-TM

P.S. I guess I'm going to pick up one of those OOT DVD's this weekend and see if the Fox logo is good enough to use. The best quality would still come off of the "Alien" DVD, though...

Never mind about the Dolby Digital question. Sorry. That was really not bright of me. I didn’t realize that BeSweet (which I own) has this capability.

But I still need that Fox logo!

Yeah, I wish I could recomend a Portman flick, but I haven't really seen any of her other films...except Mars Attacks!
I hear she is much better in some of her others films though....can anyone recomend one for alternate dialoge?

All I have is a pic of the fox logo:

Maybe this can help you make up your mind if you want to use it or not.
I have yet to see this logo in motion, but my guess is that it's pretty cool.
Much better than the original SW. Heck, it looks cooler than the one they use now!

Thanks for the screencap, SSWR. Actually, user "Calisto" very kindly hooked me up with the "Alien" fox logo, so I have it in motion now. I thought it was great, but later on, I compared it to the Star Wars logo and discovered it actually isn't the same. It looks brighter, the perspective isn't the same, and it's missing the clouds. I'll have to think about which one to use, but the great thing is that I have the choice now. Thank you, Calisto!

Guess what I'm working on right now?

Just kidding- I'll give you more specifics this time. Out of twenty sections, I have completed the sound mix for 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, and currently working on 14. Of course there are little glitches and continuity errors sprinkled throughout, but these sections are pretty much completed and polished. This includes the nightclub, the chase through Coruscant, the opening titles/explosion/conference, all of Tim's Lama-Su work, the Jedi analysis scene, library scene, yoda scene, the "en route" scene, the Padme/Anakin balcony and rejection scene, the Fett/Obi-Wan talk, the formerly deleted dinner scene, the picnic scene, the introduction of Nute Gunray, and Shmi's death/Anakin's temper tantrum. That's not to say the whole movie isn't more or less laid out already, because it is, but the aforementioned sections sport a completed sound mix.

To complete parts 2, 5, and 16, Jar-Jar is needed. To complete parts 18 and 19, I need all of the stormtrooper recordings. Can't do part 12 without an actor for Uncle Owen (which Sluggo may have located for me, I'm not sure). And finally, Mas Ammedda is needed for part 15.

This isn't to push anybody; I'm just letting you all know where we're at right now. It's certainly not hindering progress now, but a couple weeks from now, I will have to focus my attention on those particular sections.

-----------------------------------

I'm realizing that I'm going to have to rerecord some lines because they were recorded too close to the mike and it sounds like a voiceover, no matter how much tweaking is done. This is OK because it's very simple to plug in new lines or alternate lines. There are many other lines that didn't sound natural at first, but I experimented filters and finally found one that made the recordings match the on-set dialogue of the others. There wasn't very much on-set dialogue retained for AOTC, but you can tell when it has been, and the new recordings are loud and clear, sticking out like a sore thumb. I had to make some of them thinner and add more treble to get them to match.

RELEASE: I'm thinking that when this is done (November is the target), I will do a bare-bones release on single layer disc. That way, the movie will be out there, and I'll have a little more time to work on a full-featured dual-layer release, with multi-language subtitles, commentary, menus, PCM sound, and so forth. Also, doing a new encode for a dual-layer release will enable me to correct any widespread technical concerns that anyone has (that are easy to fix). I could also dream that an FX guy, seeing this movie, will offer to redo the Jedi Analysis Robot scene to match the OT....

Me too.

Trooperman, you mentioned you finished the "yoda scene". Is this the scene with the kids? I thought you had talked about cutting that out.

No, I didn't cut the whole scene. The kids appear in the background in the first shot. The first line of dialogue is Yoda's "The data must have been erased.

Also, these scenes are now back to back; it flowed much better. We have the analysis robot scene, then the library scene, then the Yoda scene, all in a row. Only after the Yoda scene do we cut back to Anakin and Padme aboard the transport.

And I'll see what I can do to show you some of the robot scene in a couple days

Actually, they won't have white sabers in THIS movie, simply because I didn't use any shots where they have their sabers ignited.

Sorry I haven't uploaded the scene- I've been really busy lately.

I have a question to ask you- Did C3PO ever say any of the following: Wa.. wait! There must be some mistake! Come back! Wait for me!

I'd be really grateful if anyone remembers.... I know I've heard those lines before.

He does roughly say all of those, just not alll in the same places.

In ROTJ, he says "Artoo, wait for me!" while walking into Jabba's palace.

And in Empire, while escaping Hoth, running to the Falcon, he shouts "But, but, but...Where are you going? Oh...Come back!", and then "Wait! Wait for me! Wait! Stop!"

I'm not sure if he ever says, "There must be some mistake." But toward the end of Empire, in reference to Lando, he says "I knew all along. Had to be a mistake."

Sorry to say, but I think my dubbing is better.

Nah just jokes But I was watching this old TNG episode where the guy sounds just like Anakin. Thought it was a laugh...
VADER: Let me look on you with my own eyes...

Doesn't he say there must be some kind of mistake right before he get's blasted in Empire? It's really fast, so you may be able to slow it down, and it will sound like a completely different line, I think he says it, but not competely sure.

There is no doubt the equivelant of the same lines on the radio dramas.

robot scene

Basically I made the best of what I had. I still don't like the CG robots, but what can you do? It's certainly better than Dex, the four-armed CG cook.

And thanks so much for all of your tips on where to find the 3po dialogue. I've ordered the OOT DVD's, which contain the 04 editions, so I'll be able to extract center channel from that. I'll also check the radio dramas if I have time.

It's coming, guys! The end is in sight... I'll probably have an approximate running time for this by mid-October.

Oh, I didn't think Dex was so bad! Oh, well...

The clip was really cool. I like the OT SFX on the transport, and the overall look is pretty good. It's not as ultra-sharp as before, which is good. What is that music from? I don't recognize it. It works well.

Progress! Looking good!

Everytime I see that droids spiked "hair" all I can think is what was George thinking? Honestly I think that scene would have been just fine if it wouldn't have been for that goofy mohawk. What kind of a galaxy is it where scientific analysis droids feel the need to express their uniqueness with silly hairdos, I am just happy he isn't wearing spiked dog collars around his neck and wrists.
