I've already completed my anamorphic conversion of the GOUT, is there a screenshot that you would like to see of mine so that you can verify my method? Just let me know.

Sure. A few frames after the image I'm posting, you can see aliasing on the right had side edge of the star destroyer. Also, upon the first appearances of R2 adn 3PO on the Tantive, you can see the jagged edges on R2's blue sections and 3PO's shoulders.

Yeah, you could skip this step I just wanted TMPGEnc Plus to only have to deal with the re-encoding part of the process so I allowed VirtualDubMod to handle the resizing for the job.

That might needlessly slow down the encoding process, though, since you'd then be running the video through two different frameservers (Avisynth and VirtualDub). Also, Avisynth is the program doing the resizing, not VirtualDub or TMPGEnc, so going through VirtualDub is really just a waste of system resources.

I really need an example of the exact frame that you are looking for because if mine doesn't have the aliasing you're talking about then I won't be able to see it. If you can post an example screenshot or two of the frames your want me to post then I will be happy to do so.

I don't have a way to capture the exact frames (the other image was borrowed). It is really obvious in the scenes I described. The aliasing/jagged edges are everywhere!

I'm pretty sure that anytime you blow up or stretch an image you are going to get aliasing but here is a clip from my conversion of the few frames around that image you posted. The only filter used was the LanczosResize in order reduce loss of detail. If you used a filter like LimitedSharpen, Deen or Undot then you might reduce the aliasing slightly but you are also going to lose some of the detail in the transfer. The clip was saved in Huffyuv lossless format so that you see exactly what I see when I watch this clip. If you don't have Huffyuv installed then you'll have to download it and install it before Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic will recognize this clip.

If AVS files don't show up in the "Open File" dialog, try choosing "All files" under "Files of type".

Does somebody know a way of doing this (LB to Anamorphic) on a Mac?

It would be nice to be able to rip the subs to.
  • do or do not, there is no try -

What version of TMPGEnc you using?
The latest version of TMPGEnc Plus uses avs files just fine.

I did my anamorphic discs this way in the last few days with no problems.

If you don't have TMPGEnc Plus then may I suggest the last freeware version of TMPGEnc, TMPGEnc 0.11.20.98-rel1, to support unlimited MPEG2 encoding. Its the best freeware MPEG2 encoder available, period. And as long as you have DGIndex and AviSynth installed and then it should be able to open .AVS files without any problems.

Does anybody know an avs command that will turn the "black bar" portion of a 2:35.1 anamorphic frame to straight black?
Like if there's a logo or burnt in subtitles in the black region, to paste over them with black.

You'll need to crop off more of the top and bottom, then add the borders back in that separate portion of the script. Forgive me for not knowing the dimensions off hand but I'm sure you can figure it out with a bit of trial and error. Preview the results in VirtualDubMod (came with Gordian Knot) before re-encoding with TMPGEnc. It'll save you tons of time.
