Info: What Has Changed? the 2006 OT DVD release...

Just for fun, I have made a DVD version of the three “What Has Changed?” features from starwars.com, comparing the theatrical (well, GOUT) editions with the 2004 editions. The layout has been redesigned thus:

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/THX1138-4EB/ESB77.jpg

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y288/THX1138-4EB/RJ91.jpg

This is just a prototype, really - I haven’t had time to put too much work into it. Eventually, I’d like to expand it to include audio mixes (v2.0) and, ultimately, use video clips instead of stills (v3.0). However, I won’t have time for any of these in the near future.

The first thing I’d like to do is reword the descriptions, which are currently rather SE friendly, to make them more neutral (v1.1). I would welcome suggestions on the wording.

If anyone would like a free copy of the complete v1.0, you can download it here (less than 50 MB, zipped).

An excellent idea. I had a similar thought when browsing the "what has changed?" images; "Somebody should do a comparison DVD". Very cool. I can't think of description changes at the moment, however I would certainly read up on all the recent audio-related posts (especially Belbucus') to get studied up for audio mix stuff.

Look forward to seeing this progress.

This is an great idea. A sort of companion to the split screen DVD.

Right, it's not meant to be a rival to WookieeGroomer's excellent set, which everyone should get - it's mesmerising. This disc just focuses on the changes. Even when I move up to clips, it will just be loops of the shots in question.

THX,

Great idea!

Any plans for v4.0, based on changes in the inevitable 30th Anniversary boxed set?

(Might want to hold onto your source files )

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

This is a cool project idea! I would happily contribute some re-written blurbs, if there was a text version posted...

Things you could consider adding:

- more subtle changes, sourced from people here on OT.com
- changes between 1997 and 2004 versions
- more detail in blurbs (e.g. "The original Emperor (Clive Revill) has been replaced by Ian McDiarmid, who plays the role in Episodes I, II, III and VI.")

Well, there's a lot of text, so I didn't want to make an unreadable thread. But they can all be read at starwars.com or on the DVD, and referred to by number (e.g. SW40, ESB77, RJ91 for those above). Suggestions for updates can be posted here.

I actually thought the original descriptions are neutral enough. However, will you be adding in more scenes, like the star destroyer scene (sorry, that's the only other changed scene I know of that wasn't in the official comparison - it's not just the matte line, but the digital lens-flare too)?
Some were not blessed with brains.

and you could be well known and liked

None of us here like Lucas or Lucasfilm.
I have death wishes on Lucas and Macullum.
we could all probably get 10s of thousands of dollars!

the lensflare wasnt added, it was just made more obvious by the super-saturation on the dvd edition.

The starwars.com feature also ommitted a few things as well but i cant remember what they were now.

Even though I can see these on the star wars website....something about having them on this DVD is pretty cool.

I cant wait to show these to some of my ignorant SW friends that have trouble telling the difference between the OT and the SE

When I first saw those features on sw.com, my initial reaction was to take WookieGroomer's set and add subtitles. So this sounds like a pretty cool project to me.

My only worry is that the images end up too small.

I agree with BigBlueRig. This will finally make all my friends who "can't tell the difference" see the light.

Thanks for the feedback. If anyone knows of any changes that aren't on the DVD, please post them here.

Not sure that direct linking will work, but if it does will bypass all the RapidShare silliness:

Edit: Never mind, it doesn't work.
