Will another member of the "in" crowd please enlighten me, then, since Garrett's being stubborn?

If you have the default posts per page option sat then in the 6th post down on page 71 of this thread you'll find:

As for the O logo, you'll also get better quality on The Thief by taking him from the high quality scan I did of the Cannes Thief poster.

I found that easily, I'm looking for the hi-res version of the DVD cover that was posted, which it doesn't seem to me ever was.

EDIT: Fuck me, I wasn't clear with my original post. Sorry, guys

I don't have the Omar DVD cover in hi res yet. I never did.

Omar plans to revise it further, and then he'll send it to me I'm sure .... via FTP.

As far as I could tell, you were asking for the Cannes art, as you said, in high quality, which I have posted so enjoy it.

Honestly guys, if I'm not responding to you you've probably said something baffling.

MarioXB - The released versions bear absolutely no resemblance to the true version of the film, so comparing them on a really detailed level as if they are worth analyzing is pointless. No one has done it and no one should do it.

I know it's not in the works - but I think we should keep track of what can be included on Mark III if it ever comes about -

Extras:
-New images in image gallery that have surfaced since Mark II (Cannes artwork, high-res logos, DougieKirk.com backgrounds, etc.)

Film:
-High-res logo before opening credits
-Incorporate pencil test (Princess looking out on balcony) if possible

Disc:
-Include newly surfaced pencil tests in the menus (Princess looking out on balcony, etc.)
-Reauthor disc so that after film is over, the screen goes back to the main menu
-Add closing credits

Anything else?

Hopefully the upcoming US release of the butchered cut has something that is usable.

Sounds like a job for me then! I love doing pointless things that no one else cares about or wants to do. They never should have released the Richard Lester cut of Superman II, but they did. There are lots of comparisons of this with the soon-to-be-released Richard Donner version. It sounds like almost the exact same situation happened there as with this movie.

But you don't get it - read through the thread and you'll find that the released version(s) have extra characters and musical numbers that aren't in the Recobbled Cut. So unless you want to hear people singing that aren't on screen, I don't know why you'd do this.

It would also be impossible considering the differences.

Anyway.

Garrett was cranky because of lack of sleep. Didn't sleep for two days, had a job interview. Need a job. Broke, can't pay rent this month.

Dave ...

Most of the new images you mention did turn up in the Mark II galleries, but yes, I presume they would be revised and added to.

A Mark 3 would certainly contain some new attempt at that flowers introduction of Yumyum.

No Mark 3 is planned, because no significant new material has yet turned up.

About 2-3 months ago I started being cagy about my sources and what was going on, partly because some sources had started to ask that I not name names and partly because things were "in discussion" - I'd contacted certain people of the sort that you ought to contact and I hoped to have some news on their reaction to the project.

Well, I did get some reactions, but there was no big news to come with it, not yet. Ah well. I'm still at it though. Talkin'. Tryin'.

Just looked at DeviantArt... there's 4x as much fanart than a few months ago. A lot of it is off-model (but decent), while there's some stuff that looks as good as work in the film itself.

Although, someone drew an erotic lesbian encounter between Princess Jasimine and Yum-Yum. Ugh.

At least people are getting inspired to do something about it!

That is to be expected obviously.

Let's get off that topic...

Does anybody here know if the Cadbury's Caramel "sexy rabbit" ads were done by Williams? They sure look it to me...
One with a beaver: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjQ5Yw72xtA
One with some birds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D94AegQPmek
(And interestingly, according to further research, the rabbit is voiced by Miriam "Maiden from Mombasa" Margolyes...)

Could this ad for Sweetex Plus sweetener also be Richard Williams?
http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/commercials/commercials_p-s/sweetexplus1985.rm

Or this one for Toys R Us?
http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/commercials/commercials_t-z/toysrus1989.rm

Maybe this one for Um Bongo fruit drink?
http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/commercials/commercials_t-z/umbongo1988.rm

Or United candy?
http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/commercials/commercials_t-z/united1982.rm

Vitalite spread?
http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/commercials/commercials_t-z/vitalite1989.rm

I also found an ad on TV Ark which I *know* to be Williams, because the BFI's database says so.
Corona orangeade "Fizzical": http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/commercials/commercials_a-c/corona1976.rm
Notice the perspective changes, a hallmark of Williams. According to BFI, Williams did a bunch of similar ads for Corona around the same time.

Also according to BFI, Williams did the titles and daydreams for "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush" (1967), the titles for "30 is a Dangerous Age, Cynthia" (1968; starring Dudley Moore), the titles for "Sebastian" (1968), a cartoon sequence [the "giant car" boardroom pitch] for "The Magic Christian" (1969; starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr), the titles for "Gawain and the Green Knight" (1973), and the titles for "Looks and Smiles" (1981).

Yes, they were. As far as I know.

In fact, one surfaces on our "Williams Studio Animated Ads" DVDs. (Although the tape I got it from didn't concretely credit it to the Williams studio, it seems to be the studio's work.) It features the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.

Some good evidence of that is, as you said, the use of Miriam Margoyles for voicework.

"I need a change of pace, I need ... bunny sex." - Clifford Menigee, Gods of Los Angeles
"Got a thing for rabbits, huh?" - Eddie Valiant, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

That Corona one that you identify as Dick's does look it - it has, in those simple designs, an obsessive attention to perspective typical of Dick.

I've watched the others and I'm not sure. Since pretty much everyone working in animation in London around that time had trained with Dick, it would be hard to tell a Dick commercial on sight from one by, say, Richard Purdum or Tony White or Uli Meyer.

Still.

The Um Bongo ad has kind of a similar movement to an ad starring some monkeys, that is on the Animated Ads disc and which I believe is by Dick.

It's also similar to some of Oscar Grillo's work. So, could be his work. Could be anyone's.

The United Ad reminds me a bit of some of Dick's work in the perspective changes, and the line style could compare to Dick's Tic Tac ads.

The bear in the Sweetex ad moves similarly to the Disney characters in Dick's Fanta ads.

Who knows.

That wouldn't look right because the rest of the paragraph text is in a different font.

Hey Garrett. I had found this page not too long ago, and I think it might have some uses for you. Their is even a on model statue of the Theif. I hope this helps with your project. http://www.masteranimator.com/index.html

Here's your first look at the Weinstein's weird attempt to cash in on the buzz about Richard Williams and The Thief (and, yeah, this project).

Even in this small image you can tell that their pop-up castle and characters are way off model, particularly Tack, but it's a cute touch for small children.

Very strange.

Current rumor is that the release might be fullscreen, which would make it no different from the previous (awful) Miramax release, which was notable for really oversaturated, dark and garish colors (which weren't present on the VHS or Japanese release).

I doubt this, and expect the release will at least be widescreen.

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/thief-and-the-cobbler.html

Planned for November 21st, this release of the butchered Arabian Knight cut is certainly a shame in every way, but true Richard Williams fans probably won't mind shelling out $20 for this cute and unusual bit of kid-friendly packaging. It's not like many of us haven't bought the butchered cuts of the film several times over already.

Funny I can't see the image anymore, but maybe it was for the best I don't know just yet!

I can just imagine a row of unsold sets at Wal-Mart if it comes to that!

It's been described on several advance-info sites as "Widescreen Collector's Edition," so it's probably that.

That pop-up cover is horrendous. Especially Tack, who has never been correctly depicted in any post-Williams official material for the film. (Yum-Yum is probably a close second.)

And look! Tack and Yum-Yum. Riding a freakin' magic carpet. Now there's a scene we all remember. Unfortunately, it's from the wrong movie.

Shame. Zig-Zag with the cards and the Thief grasping at the balls are at least vaguely semi-quasi-Williams-esque. But they moved the balls to the top of the palace, which, judging by its design, is also from the wrong movie.

I long for the day when promotion for the film will stop drawing associations with that other movie. Judging by this cover, today is not that day.

At least we'll be getting an anamorphic widescreen version that will undoubtedly be superior to the R2 release.

It's ironic that they show Zig-Zag with Phido on his shoulder since the only scene depicting that was not included in any released version (the shot of Zig-Zag going down his tower's staircase).

As long as it's not a non-anamorphic release, I'm fine with that!

I try not to look too carefully at that, since I know it would put me in a bad mood!

The whole thing looks like a totally different movie to me!

I only wish the card bit was more like what we had in the film and the cards are shuffled above Zig Zag's head in a fashion that could've looked brilliant in pop-up form! Wouldn't mind a pull-tab feature showing the Thief with the pole vault bit.

I long for the day when promotion for the film will stop drawing associations with that other movie. Judging by this cover, today is not that day.

They just wanna ram that Aladdin Rip-off mentality to the ground with this!

Let's pray for that! (and hopefully not get DVNR-ed to hell either)
