Happy Birthday Mark Hamill - September 25th

I didn't want the 25th to go by without an acknowledgement of Mark Hamill's birthday.

Cool!

I happened to watch the Just Shoot me episode again, where he plays himself and pesters Finch about every little thing he does, as payback for Finch asking him constant questions about SW. Which got me thinking...

Is there a list of Mark Hamill appearances where he sends up his Luke char? Maybe some apart from:

Just Shoot Me
Simpsons
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

Happy birthday Mark. Wouldn't it have been great if you'd gone on to bigger and better thangs like you're buddy Harrison Ford?

Happy birthday man! How old are you? I'm gonna guess 55. Not too shabby.

Happy birthday indeed. May he have many more.

Like what? - The carbon copy man-standing-up-to-authority role that he plays in every film these days? Complete with the one, overly-assertive, stern-faced, line shown in the trailer for every one of those movies. It's always the turning point where the everyman that he always plays finally takes control of his situation...

"How dare you, sir!"

"Get off of my plane!"

"Give me back my wife!"

He's settled nicely into typecasting. A new Indiana Jones would be a welcome change.

The Just Shoot Me episode was funny, so was his appearance on 3rd Rock From The Sun.

Well, at least the man has done something with his career. Mark Hamill was great in Star Wars, but did he do anything big after it? Anything noteworthy? I think not.

Mark's had a respectable stage and voiceover career.

With all due respect to Hamill, it might have something to do with his acting ability. In any case, he's done all right for himself and no one will ever forget him as the Joker. All the best Mark .

I have a lot more respect for Mark than any other actors I can think of. Mark seems a really cool down to earth guy. He gets a lot of crap about not having gone anywhere, but to me it seems he sticks to working on the kind of things he likes. It doesn't even seem that he has sunk really low like a lot of actors, he has made appearnces on many sitcoms, countless voiceovers for video games and cartoons, and he has done a lot of work on comic books. And I think he has produced a few things also. He has a family that he hasn't abandoned or screwed over (at least last I heard of) hasn't had countless trips to rehab for drugs or alcohol (again last time I checked), which is about all you will hear about Hollywood these days. Also there is not much you can say about his acting ability if you compare him to many of todays crappy actors.

As for Harrison Ford's career, has anybody here seen Firewall? I haven't. And nobody has told me I am missing anything. The last time he was in some good original movies was back in the days of Patriot Games, since then he has been in nothing new (well, not until something called What Lies Beneath, but lets not talk about that ).

I thought Mark was very good in 'Corvette Summer' (one of my favorite films from my childhood) and 'The Big Red One'. Harrison's star power is slipping, for sure, (I saw 'Firewall' BTW, and it was okay).

I'm actually kind of dreading another Indiana Jones movie. He's too old now.

I'd rather be sitting next to Hamill on a plane trip than any of the other SW people. He knows the score.

"I've learned that the movies [Star Wars] will never finally end. It just goes on and on and on and on. I mean, it's going to be in 3D, then it's going to be smellivision, then it's going to be a ride in an amusement park, then they'll come to your house and perform it with puppets on your lawn ... it'll never end! I accepted that a long time ago."

Mark Hamill has had a pretty good career. No, he never became a superstar, like Harrison Ford, but he did do quite a bit on the stage (he was Mozart on the broadway producton of Amadeus), and also did voices for various cartoons. He's done better than most in his field.

I just saw a documentary about hippos on PBS that he narrated.

I really wish he could have been the Joker for 'Batman Begins Again' or whatever it is going to be called. I know he is a little old, but it would have been so cool to hear that cartoon Joker's voice in the movie. It just would have been so right.

Happy belated birthday to Mark Hamill - my favourite of all the Star Wars actors. I'm living in Hollywood right now and for him to remain as cool non-hollywood as he has is truly remarkable. Ultimate respect to Mark Hamill!
