bugger it! vegas is giving me a headache but I don't think it's suited for this bit I'm trying to do.

I need to motion track a static plate against foreground video as the camera pans. I've masked out part of the video image to replace the ronto in the background and created a new digital plate to fill in the resulting gap. the camera moves a bit as the speeder pulls away in the alley and I'm having trouble matching the movement of the static plate to the foreground video.

how does one do it properly and hopefully with the minimum of fuss. I've tried using camera movement in vegas but it's not up to it. I need to be able to pick common points on both images, and get the program to use those as reference points so they both move together.

can this be done?

I've got

after effects
adobe premier

a) what is this techinique called
b) can anyone point me to a tutorial, alternatively, can I send you the two bits of footage and you could motion track for me?

it's 88 frames of stuff.
