No, I will not be happy about a Star Wars DVD release until it is as pure as the driven snow. That is, 100% 1977 in ALL aspects - - including the soundtrack. They have 3 to choose from, so it shouldn't be that difficult to include only sounds that appeared on one of those three tracks.

But until they stop lying with 'Original Theatrical Release' on a version that has sounds added in the 80's, I will not be happy.


About a DVD release.


I remain plenty happy in life. Completely gay in fact. And with, well, a fairly giant penis to boot.


But there's nothing wrong with wanting the original theatrical versions of Star Wars or Fantasia or King Kong or Close Encounters. They are pieces of cinematic history ... and they only qualify as such in their ORIGINAL forms.

The only REAL problems I had with the recent GOUT DVDs are:

1. Non-anamorphic, no new transfers.

2. No audio options for the different original mixes (70 mm, 35 mm, mono, 1985, 1993). So, the English tracks use the 1993 laserdisc mixes, but the freaking Spanish and French audio tracks use the original mono (Star Wars) and 70 mm (ESB) mixes?!?!? does that make sense for what was billed as "the original theatrical experience"?

3. No selectible opening crawl for post-1981 ANH.


And that's about it, really.


I think people have taken the GOUT release a bit too lightly. Remember, LFL had said for years and years (since 1995, really), that we'd never see the OUT again. EVER.

Yet, along comes this "Limited Edition" release.


We've gotten out feet in the door, people. It was a small step, but it proves that they've started to listen.


That's a major victory in this whole crazy thing.

If you're right, and I hope you are, the Mods should be here any minute to lock this down and say - "It's best that this not be discussed due to the sensitive nature of the situation, and we have been asked by LFL to lock this down."

The mods locked down every other thread on this. As for dancing in the streets you are damn right! I'm dancing anamorphically too. With a 5.1 audio soundtrack.

..er there's nothing wrong with being a purist - I'm a purist.. 150% purist I want nothing more than an anomorphic 1977 release - dust, dirst scratches, garbage mattes, the lot, nothing more, nothing less...

...the reason I wrote purist in italics as there are people who consider themselves purists but wish for things like garbage matte removals etc - purist was being emphasised, not sneered at. Then again with the different audio and video releases in 1977 theres so many degrees of purists.

...in future if I use italics i'll forwarn you as to my intentions.

It was my understanding that "Mike" wanted me to stop leaking info. So I did. He also said "I also know what the plans for next year are." To me he confirmed that my source was the truth. Then when Zion ordered me to stop or be banned I realized that I really do have the right info. This is what Zion said when he shut down my thread.

Now before you start thinking that I'm somehow in cohorts with Lucasfilm, just know that I've been around a lot of this spoiler and insider stuff for a number of years. A person gets hold of some information and they want to share it with everyone while trying to stay anonymous on the internet. I feel what you are doing could be a great service to the fans, but at the same time I feel that by you naming names you run the risk of getting someone fired. And don't think that can't happen because it certainly has happened a number of times over the last few years. A fan site posts some pictures or information about a deleted scene on the new DVDs, Lucasfilm finds out about it and traces the leaked info to one or two potential people in their office, then that person gets fired.

I understand you are the middleman here, but please understand the whole picture. I am going to discuss this further with Jay, the administrator here. But for the time being, please try not to incriminate your source. I know certain people like to harass you and try to bully you to give up more info. It's best to shrug off those people and ignore them instead of giving away information that may be detrimental to someone's job.

If you do in fact get the screenshots to share, we would like to know about it first before you post them somewhere. Allow me to re-open your thread or start a new one for that.
