2007 Banner Year for DVDs! GO TIGER!

Since HD and Blu-Ray are fighting for the home video market 2007 is going to bring with it some fantastic DVD releases. I am so excited not just for what's coming in 2007, but in November all the Superman movies including Superman II The Richard Donner Cut will be making there way to glorious DVD treatment. What do you think? I for one think Superman is finally getting what it deserves considering the crappy DVD set that came out in 2001. http://www.capedwonder.com/newwebsite/images/DVD_art/CW-DonnerCut.jpg http://www.capedwonder.com/newwebsite/images/DVD_art/CW-CRSC-front.jpg

I can't wait. The Donner Cut has me really excited. I just wish they could have got Richard Lester to do a commentary on his version.

Looking forward to this one, Ive already pre-ordered my Superman boxset. Im getting the UK 9 Disk boxset as the Richard Donner Superman 2 is included in this boxset unlike the American set which I believe is only an 8 disk one with The Donner Cut not included.

I'm going to preorder the region 2 boxset also.

I'm just wondering why Richard Pryor didn't make the Superman III cover?? http://www.capedwonder.com/newwebsite/images/DVD_art/CW-SIII-DVDart.jpg

LOL!
That is quite funny!
Richard Pryor, who was essentially the main character was cut!
Still glad that the Richard Donner Cut is comming, but disappointed by the fact they are re-using the ending from I for the Donner Cut...

I can hear Comic Book Guy now ... "Worst ... Ending ... Ever!"

You know, since they didn't have the "new" ending worked out after moving it to S:TM, I would have liked to see them tie into SR better ... especially given how much Donner loves SR.

Instead, by turning back time we're going to have Lois somehow de-pregnated, and some bully at Rocky's Diner not know why the hell this four-eyed nerd came from out of nowhere to beat him up. Blowing up the fortress will serve no point as it would have been re-built. And, whatever, the villains will have their powers back.

I'm excited as hell about this release, but turning back time at the end of SII to help Lois forget is not a good resolution to the plot.

I, too was hoping for a tie in for Returns. It would have made sense, but with some of the scenes put bakc in to distupts continuity. In the trailer, one can clearly see Superman destroying the Fortress of Solitude, which is still standing in Returns.

It does make me chuckle though, with the bully getting his ass kicked for no reason...

Is that the ending they are using? I heard it was something entirely new. Also, didn't they film some new material for the movie using props from Superman Returns? It was my understanding that The Donner Cut would tie directly into Superman Returns.

It's all speculation, but over at Superman Cinema, they have the most inside information, and it's currently not all that hot.

"New ending" meaning "new when compared to the original version of SII."

Plus, Lex and Miss Tessmacher's extra scenes are not being restored. Nor the Arctic Patrol scene not being restored, which could leave the SR sequels open to Zod, powerless but certainly still alive on Earth, waiting to be restored.

I'm gonna be in the editing room on this, I can tell already. Sheesh.

If they use the turning back the earth thing again won't that mean the stuff with Zod & company never happened?

I read the script for Donner's Superman II and was a little confused there.

"Never seen?" I wonder if it's ever circulated on bootleg. I've certainly never seen it though . As I understand it, the upcoming SR DVD will have some stuff, but as special edition is forthcoming. If the remastered OOT is included in the boxed set and Disney change their minds about Gargoyles Season 2, Part 2, it will be a great year for me entertainment wise. If.

Could it be that they didn't want to pay/couldn't afford the royalties for using Richard Pryor's image for Superman III materials. This was supposed to be the reason the final Star Wars OOT 'Faces' Release had Vader, a Stormtrooper, and Yoda on it and not Luke, Leia, etc. So they wouldn't have to pay royalties to anyone.

That does make sense but Pryor was on the cover of the previous DVD release. Also, he is featured on the back. Of course the back is movie

scenes.http://www.capedwonder.com/newwebsite/images/DVD_art/CW-SIII-back-cover.jpg

These are movie stills. The Star Wars 'Faces' release has Luke, Leia, Han, etc on the back, but only in movie stills as well. I'm not a copyright expert, but I'm guessing there is a legal difference between showing stills from the film on the back, and using photo images on the front. Of the people on the Superman III cover, Christopher Reeves is basically too important not to include, especially when you are talking in terms of the entire film series, and the others except Robert Vaughn aren't that famous. Richard Pryor's estate probably wanted quite a bit for his image, so WB decided that it wasn't worth it for only one film.

To be fair to Raul2106, much of these pictures and info, and much more, can be found at SupermanCinema.co.uk. So it seems legit.

Did a Rual sock just get deleted and have the thread removed? I remember it from minutes ago. And I was just asking. I believe him about the Superman stuff. And I want to believe the OOT stuff.
