Problem is....I'm not going to buy it again on Blu Ray or HD DVD.....those will be backward compatible with DVD, so I'm not buying it again, no matter what's included on it....and I don't give two shits about HD.

I like HD. It will be a nice visual upgrade, especially for large televisions... if I ever become rich.

"After the extreme success of the September 12th, 2006 LIMITED EDITION Star Wars Trilogy DVDs, Lucasfilm Limited has decided to digitally remaster and restore the original unaltered Star Wars Trilogy in celebration of Star Wars 30th Anniversary."

The press release will be very close to that and will eliminate any belief that LFL had this planned to begin with. It really is brilliant but predictable marketing if you follow what Lucas has done in the past. To answer your quest Cable-X1 the whole company supports him because thats how the money is made. The strategy is perfect. Those within the company that don't support this are the ones who were behind the restoration artist for the upcoming OOT release. It all gels together really well. I'm very excited about next year.

I think he means it was the people that didn't like the OUT treatment that found that the restoration artist and pushed GL.

Lucas doesn't want the OOT released. He gave into a small LFL faction and a loving restoration artist. The deal was release the substandard versions of the OOT bundled of course with the craptacular editions, and some of the money would be used for the restorative. Now Fox is excited because they know that a superior product is coming out next year and is going to make up for the bad double dip that occured this year. It's all going to work out people. Why do you think Fox agreed to such a release?

when you put it that way it makes so much sense

Still doesn't make sense at all.

This recent release makes perfect sense. Lucas has no love for the OOT. He's said so and everything he's done from 1997 up to now fits into that, even this release. I would have been amazed had this been a full restoration, but we got a shoddy release. Nevertheless, it falls prefectly in with Lucas' dislike for the OOT. Why should he do a turn around and release it next year? It doesn't fit in with what he's said and what he's done. Everything he's said and done falls into that dislike for the OOT, so he is being consistent.

I think it's more likely that Lucas released this edition to 1) get us to shut the hell up and leave him alone about it and 2)curb the bootleg market. That's it!!! There's no reason for him to give the OOT a second thought now that it's out there. Now he can put out his newer SEs which all fit his original vision in one big set and that's it.

Everything up to now makes PERFECT sense. Lucas releasing it again remastered next year doesn't make sense at all.

And I stand firmly on this one question and demand it be answered in order for us to believe you, Raul?

WHO IS THE RESTORATION ARTIST?
Author
Time
And what format will they use? DVD or something with a higher definition like blu-ray or HD-DVD?
Fez: I am so excited about Star Whores.
Hyde: Fezzy, man, it's Star Wars.

No matter what Mr. Raul's answer is, there's no way to know for certain whether he is telling the truth or not. What, you think that you have the answer and you're waiting for him to correlate your hypothesis there, chief?

The facts are this next year is what everybody is here for.

Yep, exactly.

I really, really think Lucas isn't lying about one thing: he wants to move on from SW.

If he wants to move on from Star Wars so badly, wants to go out with a bang on the 30th, why is he redoing the "Saga" in 3D and launching a concurrent television series? He may be done personally writing Star Wars stories, but he's still using it toward his own ends.

But all of these are around the same time, right? '07, the "Year of Star Wars"* can be his final year. And of course he is using it toward his own ends...it's what he has always done!

*I posted this in a few other threads, but LFL is already using that phrase and made a few quick comments about video game releases, collectibles, etc., in '07. They are hyping everything up and they claim the year will be HUGE!

I want a name. Then maybe we can check his story?

How about that chief?

Raul comes here with this crazy story....produces photos that are prototypes for the 2004 set and sprouts all kinds of bullshit.

Check a few posts up....he said Lucas has changed the Greedo seen to MAKE HAN SHOOT FIRST. That just gives it away, man. Lucas already put out the Han shoots first versions....why should he cave to fans now and restore the original scene?

This guy is fuckin' with us....if he's for real, then he's going to have to prove it.

From what little we know, the 3D movies will run from 2007 to 2012. George will be busy during that time expanding the 3D market. The TV show will start in 2008, and run for at least four seasons to make a syndication package.

A marketing department claiming the coming product cycle will be HUGE? Perhaps even BETTER THAN BEFORE and a MUST-BUY for a LIMITED TIME ONLY? Mirabile dictu!

I read comic solicitations, so I'm kind of immune to the OH GOD THIS WILL BE HUGE YOU CAN'T MISS IT EVERYTHING CHANGES!!!1 hype.

I dont believe a word Raul says, I find hard to believe that they will on any/in any 2007 boxset especially re-mastered/restored or whatever this soon anyway after the 2006 releases, if it ever does get released, which I doubt, it will be well into the future unfortunately.

My decision to not buy these DVDs is because I do not have money to burn. I don't have money to spend on something I only want 50/50. If I spend my money, I need to make sure its for something I want and not DVDs I already own. If you have money to burn, good for you.
I think just not having the extra cash is a separate issue. I don't think that people who don't buy the DVDs because of a lack of funds would automatically criticize those who did buy them.

I, too, am finding Raul's line a bit hard to swallow (but, um, just wanna know how I can get those cool-looking DVD packages).

If the '07 set is supposed to sort of an "archival" set, I could see Lucas giving the OOT a proper treatment, maybe even coming standard with the new cuts as a seamless-branching easter egg on all future releases of the OT (like the SE/Theatrical cuts of Terminator 2).

It makes a little bit of sense, so I'll give Raul the benefit of the doubt for now. Given the fact that the OOT came out this year and next year's the 30 anniversary, I see potential for him to be telling the truth.

I can live with 80% of the SE additions. I even like the PT (overall). But not releasing the OOT in respectable condition? That's unacceptable.

Check his story? Against what? An arrangement that's apparently still in the planning stages if they haven't even begun work on this project? LOL!

EXACTLY!

Folks,. this product has to be pretty darn special, and what is going to make people buy it? You simply cannot put all 6 movies in one set with a few minor changes and a few extras, and then expect even the most hardcore fans to buy the same movies 2, 3 or maybe even 4 times over! It won't happen. But a nice, restored OUT PLUS all of the rest of the stuff sure will! It all comes down to simple economics: LFL tried to put the SEs out two years in a row and sales weren't that great. This is the THIRD year in a row they are out and the only way they could move them was with a sub-par bonus disk. They completely flooded the market now, and I am sure this was not done by accident; they know they won't be able to do the same thing again and they willl need to come with something much better...something ALL fans cannot resist buying...

Guys I have no reason to lie to anybody. I am not going to sit here and defend my statements. Believe what you wish. I will bring you the info if you want to hear it when it is presented to me. I do not have the name of the restoration artist. What I do have is a life outside of the Star Wars Trilogy. So while people sit around lazily trying to debunk everything I say. Just remember one thing 2007 is the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars. Do you actually think that LFL will pass on the chance to milk the market with SW DVDs one last time? I am not even telling you to take my word for it. Read between the lines has been my entire position throughout this thread. I have not made one impossible statement. I thought I would be a good guy and pass some good news along to my favorite forum. However, people would rather think ill of me. We all KNOW how George Lucas is when it comes to home video formats. You wanna talk about Blu-Ray and HD? Think about it! You will be waiting a long time because George doesn't have any plans on bringing Star Wars anywhere near those formats, till we have a declared winner and the new standard has been set for several years. MAY THE FORCE BE WITH ALL OF YOU!
