Not only will the OOT be digitally remastered in anamorphic widescreen. It will also feature a 5.1 audio mix as well as the 2.0 in the current release. The print is being cleaned and primed by someone who has a love for the original trilogy perhaps even more than Lucas himself! The SE's are being "altered" again to fit with the prequels. Yoda is now CG in PM. The biggest change to the Special Editions that I am aware of right now is that HAN SHOOTS FIRST. Lucas is caving on that since that seems to be everyones major gripe with the SE's. The OOT will feature a new commentary track from the restoration artist working on the print. Giving in depth detail about the process and what it took to convince GL to allow the restoration to take place.

I sure hope that it is going to be seperate sets, because I really have no desire for the PTs. I'll take the SEs in seemless branching or whatever, who cares, as long as I get my restored OUTs!

This is too good to be true....and probably is.

Bullshit.

I really don't know who supershadow is. I don't frequent many boards. I came to originaltrilogy.com because of fan preservation efforts.

My only advice to you is...don't be like supershadow.....and you're being like him now.

It really isn't too good to be true. Epecially if you read between the lines of the LFL marketing gimicks. How do you think the OOT got released in the first place? Lucas DID NOT and still doesn't like the idea of those films being released on DVD. It was all the restoration artist I'm telling you the truth. Lucas agreed to the substandard release to fund the restore effort. He declined any money going into the current release.

I hope that your source is true.
Well if your sources are true tehn I'm question you just a bit more (If you don't mind lol), It is true and the Emperor will be in the episode IV, and Vader goes to Coruscant. And are you allowed to say whom the restoration artist is?

This is flat out bullshit!!! Lucas has said before that it would take a few million a piece to restore these films. I highly doubt this release is going to be able to fund this. A LOT of copies of this have to be sold to come up with that much money.....

I'm not going to continue to spread info here as it isn't being received as anything but bullshit. My definitive take on it is just wait till 2007. Then you can refer to my original statements (if originaltrilogy.com is still here). I know you are skeptical but this LIMITED EDITION release should show you that the writing is on the wall for the 30th Anniversary. Lucas is making money this year and preparing for the Star Wars Saga grand finale. I am sorry that people here believe that most are as dishonest as George Lucas.

No keep telling, cuz when the official stuff gets announced and you were true I'll thank you very much for the insight, I'm not saying it's bullshit (except for the covers one), I'm just skeptical.
how many discs will it be? Will the Holiday special be included?

But most of the $ was already spent to restore them for the SE release, though, so there is really no need to spend even close to that amount again.

which is true, they would only need cleaning to remove dust, and get rid of that awful pink hue in ANH.

The restoration effort is expensive but it isn't costing as much as the Special Editions. I'm telling you the reason for this release was to fund the restoration of the OOT for the 30th Anniversary DVDs. If this LE release didn't occur we wouldn't be getting the anamorphic OOT next year. Don't be fooled by LFL!

Come on!!! What about the statement on the official site saying that this will be the "first and only time" these versions will be available....

Yeah....obvious bullshit, I know....but why all the games here? Doesn't make sense....

About this thread's original topic. I used to be someone who had a lot of respect for George Lucas. One of the "worshippers" if you will. Episode 1 turned that opinion down a notch though, and episode 2 turned that opinion down a few notches more, but the 2004 supposedly "classic" DVD release pissed me off completely. I'm a damn angry fan and I no longer believe George Lucas is an artistic genius. He's simply a money-grabbing genius. :\

Why do I have a feeling that the majority of people who are critical of those who've purchased the DVDs, have not actually seen the DVDs for themselves? I think a lot of this is people "protesting too much" and trying to talk themselves out of buying the DVDs.

My decision to not buy these DVDs is because I do not have money to burn. I don't have money to spend on something I only want 50/50. If I spend my money, I need to make sure its for something I want and not DVDs I already own. If you have money to burn, good for you.

Is that for real?

Lucasfilm isn't even going to try and hide the fact that they lie in their marketing? I'm very skeptical.

To get people to BUY! It will be very easy for them to recant that statement in the future by saying that due to the success of the 09/12 release, even though there were no plans to, they have now decided to do a proper transfer.

Precisely what I was thinking too.....but it's just so BLATANT. If it's for real and he does put out the OOT totally remastered and all, I'll buy it, but I'm NEVER going to buy another SW product again.

I can understand the need to make a buck and even milk something dry, but this is just plain craziness...

Lucas will make a lot of money.....but he's going to lose a lot of respect and a lot of older fans in the process.

The facts are this next year is what everybody is here for.

Yep, exactly.

I really, really think Lucas isn't lying about one thing: he wants to move on from SW.

If he wants to move on from Star Wars so badly, wants to go out with a bang on the 30th, why is he redoing the "Saga" in 3D and launching a concurrent television series? He may be done personally writing Star Wars stories, but he's still using it toward his own ends.

Cable-X1 it is BLATANT... Thats how King George Lucas is. Milk Star Wars for everything you can because the fans keep buying. The 30th Anniversary is his last chance to score on DVD, with the new formats looming to win us over. You can rest assured you will get what you want because Lucas knows DVD we be replaced.

Lucas is done with DVD not Star Wars.

Raul.....what does your source say about Lucas' actions?

Is it generally known among the LFL employees that Lucas is like this?
